  1. I will start by saying the Twins pitching philosophy is flawed and I look forward to it changing and I wouldn't mind seeing Anderson replaced after the season. That said, that article was brutal. The guy came in with a conclusion and stated it throughout even though the specific examples/statistics he cited were inconclusive at best, and even some times contrary to the point he was trying to prove. With plenty of small sample sizes to boot. He used stats and analyzed them through his previous opinion. His three primary examples are Liriano, Livan and Marquis. Liriano is basically unchanged since leaving, Livan got worse (probably because he was cooked), and Marquis got better (perhaps by moving to the NL?). And all three are cited as examples of the terrible influence of Anderson!
  2. A main difference is that there never was a clear replacement for Casilla during that time. I would hope Rosario or perhaps one of the other middle infield guys will be able to push Dozier enough if he doesn't produce.
  3. They actually went above slot by around $600k for Gibson. He was considered advanced but not major league ready necessarily (aside from the injury). And I don't know what slow playing Tommy John with a prospect means. As far as being in the rotation for other teams, that would depend on specific situations. The bigger point is he should be in the Twins rotation right now.
  4. Aside from not getting called up right now I don't think Gibson has been handled all that poorly. Keep in mind he was injured when he was drafted. The next season he started to move pretty quick and then got hurt right when he was on the cusp of reaching the majors.
  5. The rest of the season and then reevaluate.
  6. I agree that a main goal of this season is now finding out about Plouffe, Parmelee and Dozier and whether they can be part of the plan going forward. AAA would do nothing to help figure this out.
  7. He will be traded. With his play recently he might even net an upside c level prospect arm.
  8. No. And that package doesn't seem remotely close enough.
  9. Now you assume the Twins FO knows something about music?
  10. Don't ruin a perfectly good point by mentioning Slama.
  11. I was kidding with my comment. I find the extent of conclusions drawn solely from stats around here to be a little much. I think the Twins are handling Meyer and May just fine. On another note I really appreciate the coverage you provide.
  12. Dead right on both points. I would add that if the Twins were still floating near .500 I could accept this a little more but this is a farce on top of a fiasco.
  13. Again I'm not sure Porcello is a good example to prove your point. And Gausman and Bundy have always been more highly regarded so the comparison isn't great. That aside, this is disgusting. I didn't have high expectations for the season but doing something to potentially save a couple mil down the line is beyond words.
  14. Getting the call for Monday per Jim Mandelaro. Gibson will have to wait.
  15. I think Porcello can also be the counterexample to rushing players. He is not exactly lighting it up this year (or all that much in previous years) and he had a strong reputation when he was drafted. If Detroit had spent the time developing him he might be a much better pitcher, but since he is already 5 years in that almost certainly won't happen in Detroit.
  16. I agree with this. Keep him as long as possible, hope the light switch goes on. But he probably ends up as a back of the bullpen guy, which would be an acceptable (if not the best) outcome. I have a feeling he might get a couple innings in Minnesota in September.
  17. Are you not familiar with xFIP? Shouldn't that be driving all pitching promotion decisions?
  18. Manea can re-enter the draft next year. I'm almost positive Giolito had a 4 year college commitment, so if he didn't sign he wouldn't be able to be drafted until 2015.
  19. Barring injury, I think he is up before 21.
  20. This is a little strange. If it means giving Parmelee one last extended look I can live with it, but Arcia should be playing every day somewhere.
  21. And Sano is 20 right now. Barring injury he will easily be up in that range too.
  22. Mike - I think incomplete is about as kind as we can be right now. I'm not especially concerned about the record this year as I had minimal expectations no matter who was signed. I saw this year as the opportunity to see what younger players had and if they could contribute to a future winning team. What I want to see is overall progress in the organization, especially in the minors and so far so good. The second part is how the front office responds to information gathered with midseason trades and offseason moves. That part is quite incomplete.
  23. Yes indeed. I think most are starting to agree an overall shakeup of the pitching philosophy is probably called for. It would start with Anderson. I still have a theory of the staff this season. The change is starting with half the staff but Ryan wanted to keep some stability so Gardy and Anderson stayed. Ryan was fine with this because he knew the season would be a struggle and didn't want the stink on the new manager. Molitor gets another year to work with the youngsters in the minors and leads them going forward.
  24. I really agree with this point. Stability is a positive. There comes a point when leaders can become stale and fresh approaches may be warranted but not sure Ryan is there yet. The other positive of the Pohlads is they don't meddle in baseball ops. That is usually a disaster. Hire solid people and get out if the way.
