  1. No reason for Garver yet, but would be nice to try one of the big corner bats of Vargas/Palka/Paulsen.
  2. I would trade him for a Berrios type too. Don't think that will be on the table. Gonsalves, Romero, Mejia are the back end top 100 guys that you might be able to get. Not sure if I would pull the trigger if that is the headliner.
  3. That type of concern is vastly overstated for starting pitchers, there is always demand. Quintana and Darvish are different assets with different expectations.
  4. Granite hasn't played yet in AAA. The other negative is he is a LH hitter, limits his value with Kepler and Rosario in the corners.
  5. There will certainly be a market, they won't have trouble trading him. I'm just not as confident it will be an package that will be all that impressive. If the Twins are trending upwards, if not exactly playoff bound this year, might just make sense to keep him for the rest of his contract.
  6. Are you asking why a team might stick longer with a guy who puts up elite defense at an up the middle position?
  7. Understanding that this won't continue for Santana, but perhaps thinking he is a little bit better than last year, I'm curious what people think they'd receive for Santana. I understand the desire to trade him if you don't think this is a playoff team (I would agree), but I think the return will be a little bit disappointing.
  8. Nick Franklin (meh) and some other relievers that are also meh. We'll have to see if a legit 4th OF sneaks through.
  9. I also don't think it is quite as easy as just saying he's a "top prospect" so he gets a longer leash. He flashed production in September and he is an elite defensive player at a critical position. Both of those buy more time to work it out.
  10. Twins (tied with Dodgers) still the tops in the majors in run differential.
  11. Hicks at least plays a pretty solid defensive OF at all positions, and has shown a little from the right handed side, which would fit nicely with the current OF alignment. Again, I think this will cause more angst than it is worth, as 4th OFs can be found elsewhere, but he would absolutely be a better fit right now.
  12. It does seem that Stubbs would have been the guy to keep as a 4th OF. Not sure if they have a great option to fill that role at the moment. I was in favor of giving DSan another chance early this year, but he has brought nothing to the table so far. No need to keep waiting.
  13. I'll take the over. He's due for a decent season. It would be nice to have Hicks at this point, and he'll have an ok season or two, but this trade will lead to more angst than it's worth.
  14. Seems to explain the performance in the spring. Get healthy, dominate a couple outings, and get back up.
  15. If nothing else, it is a little interesting that some of the former players in the media are taking some shots at Mauer. I personally think all this is a distraction from the fact that Mauer is a shell of what he was before. Tweaks to his approach isn't going to change that reality.
  16. Still some season to go: https://twitter.com/keithlaw/status/853062033570488320
  17. MLB needs the $20.
  18. Any speculation on whether the Twins FO had a similar thought? Might have been another reason why they were hesitant to call up Park.
  19. This is probably close to best scenario, but I think the bullpen is at least explainable. Pressly, Rogers, Kintzler are representative in my mind. They'll give up runs eventually, but no reason they can't be pretty good this year. Duffey is a nice wildcard, used like has been he can bring some value. That's a nice core, and the rest can fill in around it. Obviously the pen will give up more runs, but it can still be a strength going forward.

A couple relievers. Maybe a catcher and dh too. There is enough young talent that they should have some space to dip in the free agent pool to bridge the gap while the low minors is rebuilt.
  21. Ricky: If/When Otani comes over, is he viewed as a two way player? Keith Law: Nope. This is going to be the most-asked question of 2017, I think. NPB pitching is not close to MLB pitching as a whole.

Games like today make me think it is more possible. Not necessarily the total runs, but the response to losing 2 close games and rallying to prevent the sweep. It just seems too often they'd letdown in a game like this and hightail out of town.
  23. I'm back on the bandwagon. Easily going to finish over .500.
  24. I'd say a good word about ISIS.
  25. So the US just dropped the biggest non-nuclear bomb in the arsenal on Afghanistan (for the first time ever). Seems like a big deal.
