  1. Both NFL and NBA contracts are messed up. Here's an idea - set up a contract structure for players as they enter the league, say 4-6 years, then at a certain point allow them to make as much money as teams are willing to pay them. And get rid of salary caps to allow for more movement and easier trades.
  2. I don't think it's even about unwillingness to adjust at this point. There is nothing to adjust to. He's cooked. It's a futile conversation because there's nothing there anymore.
  3. I appreciation the frustration with Mauer, but aren't these complaints reaching the point of futility? Not because he won't adjust, but because he's too cooked for it to make a difference.
  4. The other thing with Rosario is that he kind of is that type of a player that he is. He is not going to be a walk machine, but like was said, if he can cut down his k's, slightly bump the bb's, and still provide excellent value on defense and on the bases. This is a player with value, if a slightly unconventional player in today's game.
  5. This is a struggle on a different level, and it's his third season. For the first time I am not confident that he will pull himself out. I didn't expect huge production this year, but I expected a step forward, and it has instead been a huge step backwards.
  6. Probably correct, which is still a pitcher that provides value while cheap.
  7. I don't think you pull the plug on Gibson, but it might be getting to the point that we need to drastically alter expectations. He's probably just a 4-5 guy, which provides value, but also means he'll soon get priced out of being a guy you want to roster.
  8. I concur with this. Combined with those two, they can slide Grossman into a corner if they call up Vargas, or they can call up Palka and have him play a corner trading off with Grossman. They have a lot of combos they could roll with.
  9. I think they are going to let him play most the time.
  10. For me, Buxton is obviously the most depressing, but the only other guy I'm really down on is Gibson. I had hopes he would take a step forward, but likely he's just going to be a middling backend guy. Beyond those two, I think the young guys are doing pretty close to what we could hope for. So I'm not sure what other bright spots we would be fishing for this early. There are a handful of guys that it would be nice to see some production when they get recalled.
  11. I would be pretty surprised if they send him back down in the next 3 months. I do think he'll get more days off sprinkled in than they planned, especially against RHs that are high K guys (like Salazar).
  12. That is definitely the problem. Santana can't be one of three bench guys right now. And the amazing thing is the pitching has stepped up to make the 13th pitcher meaningless, but I'm skeptical that it will last.
  13. I would also contend that rostering Santana from day 1 is "playing the kids" too. Dude is still 26. I would agree that he isn't going to work out and should make a move. There is a backup plan, but it is not as attractive as the original plan, going to result in a big downgrade in defense. Not really that realistic to roster above average defensive players at all positions and the 4th of spot too.
  14. I don't think it's limited to just Buxton.
  15. I do think it is time to give one of the bigger bats in AAA a crack. Mauer probably deserved an initial shot, but he's a corpse now.
  16. Kind of telling that the people who advocate strongest for the kids to play are now complaining the loudest about no backup plan when they scuffle.
  17. Good. De Leon isn't making it through the season. Would have been a bad trade for the Twins.
  18. The offer you suggested was a better return than Nunez. And I think people underestimate what Nunez was worth last year. For me, I'm most interested in the main piece.
  19. OK. So what? They have a catcher and an acceptable backup right now, and now with Garver a good third catcher with three years of options. If they remove those in front of him they lose that depth and its not clear there would be an upgrade. What's the hurry? Garver's production and likelihood that he can be at least a competent C puts the org in a good spot.
  20. I don't mind the same plot bones, but I would hope they throw in a couple twists involving main characters.
  21. What are you talking about? Being a solid third catcher with options provides lots of organizational value.
  22. Of course you trade pending free agents whe you can't win. Every team does that.
  23. He's not old for a catcher on the verge. He's about where he should be. No reason to come up and play once a week. I'd call him up for an injury, if Gimenez is released/traded, or in September.
  24. 3 of the 4 Yankee trades were free agents. Twins should look to do that (Santiago, Kintzler). 1.5 years plus option of Santana is a different calculation.
  25. I would do that trade. I'm skeptical it would be on the table.
