  1. Because the litany of factors that go into such deviations is enormous and likely not trending towards a pattern. All this article did was put into context how hard it is for pitchers to repeat a fantastic season and put some hard data on those trends. A theme the author made very clear they were going for right from the beginning by only claiming to analyze past trends as a predictor, not claiming to be Nostradomus.
  2. This is to say nothing of the larger point, but I'm not so sure baseball segregation wasn't at least partially based on latent fears of what black players might do to the availability of jobs and performance of white players.
  3. Encouraging grade on Kepler.
  4. He was clearly busy screwing up the manager interviews.
  5. I can assure you that part of Seattle's outfield plan involves heaping amounts of cash in FA.
  6. Last year they started backing up some of this talk, so here's hoping to a second round of aggressive offseason moves.
  7. How are we supposed to trade if Duensing isn't involved?
  8. I totally thought it would be "The Search for More Money"
  9. Good stuff but I couldn't help but have my biggest takeaway from the Russell write-up. So much prospect scouting from national pundits is based on a ridiculously small sample size and sometimes not even from game situations. (Russell's defense) I really think most fans don't realize how minimal the information is on most of these guys. I'm sure, in-house, we have much more, but I'm just strictly talking national scouts.
  10. I can appreciate the "Plan B for Santana" approach with Escobar. But I'd still shop him hard before I settled on that.
  11. Exactly, I wish people just took Mauer for what he is. Instead the heavy-handed pro and anti-Mauer people steer most of the discussion. Mauer isn't going to win any awards for his toughness, charisma, or big-spot performances but he's also been a damn good player for a damn long time. I wish the conversations could stay between those goal posts.
  12. The very notion of wives asking their nerdy husbands for tiny dancing Groots is a testament to what Marvel has accomplished. It's unbelievable.
  13. You get the sense from that Mauer quote that he is the type that doesn't even want to be coached. I really don't like that mentality from a guy that is far from a perfect baseball player.
  14. My wife (a non-nerd who I have insidiously nerded-up over the years) was absolutely in love with the movie. And then the baby dancing groot hit and she didn't stop talking about it for a month. I still get a weekly question about when the DVD is coming out. Winter Soldier is criminally underrated. In the Marvel catalogue I'd put it only behind the first Iron Man in terms of quality. Even as I type that I waiver on if it's even behind that movie.
  15. Way to list the problems in a way that made them seem even more difficult to overcome. Also...Plouffe is "core four"? If so I have a nomination for an 11th item on that list.
  16. Loved Winter Soldier and I'd describe Guardians of the Galaxy as a good version of what Michael Bay tries to do. Marvel has absolutely mastered how to pace a superhero movie, hopefully Abrams is better at that in his Star Wars movies than he was in his Star Trek movies.
  17. Mike Matheny in St. Louis comes to mind also as a guy with no previous experience. Robin Ventura also just came to mind.
  18. http://ct.fra.bz/i60/5/11/25/f_a62bac8875.jpg
  19. I'd give them a call and see what the cost is for sure. CarGo is a damn good player and his price tag is far from insane. I'd prefer Kemp, but if you can get CarGo at a discount I'd be in on that conversation.
  20. I agree, but this is not the time to buy on Heyward. Especially not since there is still such a strong contingent that overrates his contributions.
  21. WAR is a terrible stat to use with Heyward because he's a poster child for what's wrong with the stat. As for what Heyward can produce - the guy has been steadily declining in his production and is nowhere near the type of hitter he was expected to be. Arcia has been pretty good despite having some monumental hills to climb in his approach. I love Heyward's defense, but the guy is going to get way overpaid on the basis of good corner OF d and an overrated bat. No thanks.
  22. Great read and the more I hear about Molitor the more I'm won over by this choice. This was the right guy, questions about the process or anything else be damned.
  23. I would quite confidently wager that Arcia is going to be a much more impactful hitter than Heyward. The defense is an obvious, lopsided matter in favor of Heyward however.
  24. That used to be Gardy's MO too and I think it was obvious that attention had waned of late.
  25. 23, that other one doesn't matter per team officials.
