  1. Or, possibly, offer him fallback after this year.
  2. Poor choice of words, I just meant we always seemed to play poorly and find ways to lose.
  3. All of these things are quite subjective. And even if they were true - since when does the best team win in the playoffs as some sort of rule? We went to the playoffs a lot and couldn't manage to win games much less series. Meanwhile upsets are common in the playoffs in baseball and if your version of events is true, it's still a weak excuse for being that impotent in the playoffs. I don't, for the record, put that on Gardy. (Not much at all really) But can we please stop the "woe is the little engine that could" meme? We have consistently played soft in the playoffs and blaming it on less talent is a really lame excuse.
  4. I don't want to break it down for every year, but immediately when I read this I thought about the 2010 Twins who were a better offensive and better pitching team than the Yankees they faced and we had homefield advantage in our brand new park. I'd argue after a certain point we started becoming the underdog regardless because of the perception of our team folding in the playoffs and little to do with an actual talent disparity.
  5. I'd bring him on. I do think a veteran of his ilk would be good for this team, especially if you can either flip Nolasco in the deal or in another one. He may also be a guy you could consider offering the fallback for compensation after next season, depending on his success.
  6. Yeah, I've always tended to think the role of the manager is overblown. It's more symbolic than anything and far more prone to destroying a team's chances than turning water into wine. We shouldn't expect anything radically different with a new manager, the choice is more about a symbolic changing of the guard.
  7. Just heard that, crazy sad for all involved.
  8. Sounds like trolling has taken it's natural course of evolution. I'm glad I'm an old-school gamer.
  9. Then TR should say "Our payroll budget is flexible, if we see quality players that fit our needs then we can move to add them. if the market just doesn't fit our needs, we can explore trades or look for in-house replacements" Rational people will understand rational answers. What TR said managed to be both irrational and insulting at the same time.
  10. Bud Selig is en route to throw a baseball at Maddon's head as we speak. That'll learn him.
  11. The nonsense about what constitutes a "loyal fan".
  12. I was going to suggest that Parker's continued existence seems to indicate they left it off the list of questions.
  13. He's been asked the question so many times, you'd think by now he'd have developed a better answer. Responding to "well your fans care about it..." with what amounts to a verbal middle finger is just aggravating beyond explanation.
  14. http://lh5.ggpht.com/_KW8J2jaL8kg/TBuJX_uat9I/AAAAAAAACMY/BI-CIWiTJm4/charlie-brown-argh_thumb%5B1%5D.jpg
  15. I've read a lot of well-spelled nonsense in my time. I prefer to see the forest rather than obsessing over trees.
  16. I simply cannot put into words how much this thinking bothers me.
  17. Good article, further reinforces where I stand as Molitor being the best choice.
  18. Getting a good LF should have absolutely zero impact on Sano. Zero.
  19. While I'm ok with the Twins thoroughly vetting their next manager, there will come a point (and it isn't that far off) in which it does become concerning. The interviews they've done should've given them the information at this point, if it drags on too long it does start to look like indecision. We're just not at that point yet IMO. (But if by this time next week we're in the same boat I may be more inclined to get conspiratorial)
  20. Well....we also sort of signed a bounce-back guy that bounced back fairly well. There are mountains of risk with any FA you sign because life isn't 100% predictable and all sorts of FAs on all sorts of contracts have gone on to disappoint. If anyone has the magic "this works every time!" formula - I strongly encourage you to stop wasting your time here and get your rear end down to One Twins Way to share it. Otherwise, let's just accept every idea comes with risk.
  21. I don't think he had zero value and even if he did both those players were more effective as 40 man clogs than players that helped the Twins. It wasn't a bad move because the potential value was low, but it's hardly a situation worthy of compliment.
  22. I'm not sure how anyone can say we did "well" for Morneau. That seems like a very low threshold for "well".
  23. Can we restart the conversation without the silly False Dilemma of Promotion/Talent Pipeline vs. Free Agency? I'm really tired of the notion these two can't co-exist.
  24. That seems a tad hurried, especially given how the Twins seem to like to see starters log a significant chunk of innings in AAA before a callup. Early 2016 seems more likely.
  25. It appears the Rays may have thought he could hack it given where they played him. I'm not sure how anyone could've looked at his offensive profile from the minors and thought "elite corner OF", but yet that was the hype people were putting on him. I think the Royals identified that well.
