  1. I have gotten the feeling from many Braves fans that their feelings about Heyward are pretty biased. Heyward is a good player, but he's not great. 3 years straight of declining OPS and HR numbers, if the price is anything like what you are suggesting Ben - then a GM would have to be an idiot to take them up on it.
  2. I'm on board for asking about Kemp.
  3. I'd be interested in Heyward, but I can't imagine he goes for Plouffe and Thorpe. I think it would take something like Berrios to get the conversation started.
  4. Just because Molitor has been loosely employed here for quite some time doesn't mean his approach to managing is going to be a continuation of Gardy's. I believe it's going to be quite different and that's all you can really ask for from a managerial hire.
  5. He's mostly been on the fringe of the organization because he had no interest in being Gardy's #2. (I'd presume because of the friction we've heard about) He's not an outsider ala Luvollo, I agree about that. But I do believe he'll represent a change in approach, which is really all we want in an outside manager candidate anyway. If you want the organization to change, you need to hire for front office jobs, not the manager's spot.
  6. One thing you could consider to ease that disappointment is how we know Gardy and Molly got along. By all accounts Molly has been an outsider in the dugout for a year. I truly think he and Luvollo represented outside choices. Mientciewicz was the only real insider and hiring him would've been more of the same.
  7. Simply by avoiding Doug this was a good decision.
  8. I was angling more at the Slappy Mcnopower fielders.
  9. Some guys are gifted with the ability to keep finding "unlucky" injuries. I sure hope that isn't this kid.
  10. If this is true I'm happy. I think Molitors style of baseball fits well with how Ryan builds teams.
  11. My only problem with that is that by most reports Maddon was never a "thing" for us - right or wrong or insignificant. So I'm not willing to take that as some sort of game changer that pushed our schedule back. We're past the WS now and if there isn't an announcement Tuesday (the best day typically to grab headlines, better than Friday or Monday at least) than I'm in the camp of wondering what they are doing.
  12. We are now past the point where I am worried about why there is a delay. If we wait until Thanksgiving I think it's less about being thorough and more about being indecisive. We may already be at that point.
  13. I believe them when they say this is fairly common for both incoming and outgoing players. What I wish I would've heard was "We look at those situations after the fact to see if we can learn anything and move on"
  14. I really hope it isn't Dougie.
  15. One of these things is not like the others.
  16. I have to say, as it was happening...I was thinking "send him". If, for nothing else, the fact that it looked like Bumgarner was en route to doing something special and I felt like the odds of getting to him were 0%. So I'd take that Hail Mary in that case. (Or so my gut feeling mid-play was telling me)
  17. You are putting an awful lot on a bunch of spring training starts and I could fill a thread with reasons not to do that. May should go in with a leg up and ST stats should only influence anything with a massive helping of salt.
  18. I'm sorry, but there is 15-20 years of evidence the team is "cheap". The onus to change that chorus is on the Twins. And, to their credit, they began that process last offseason, but they have a long way to go to shrug that label.
  19. Man that 25th man response bugged me. Why can't we make that spot relevant by, you know, putting someone there that COULD help impact the team?
  20. I've heard that too and it very much fits our style. Part of why I've always believed Ryan avoids bad deals is because he's so picky about the situations he puts himself into. There is something to be said for avoiding crippling mistakes, but there is also a happy medium between that and "gunslinger" mode. Also, for those worried about having "all the facts" - if that is a prerequisite for discussion we might as well all say our goodbyes and shut this puppy down. There will always be a degree of uncertainty in our discussions, it's the nature of the beast.
  21. I'm not sure where this came from. I was stating that there is a perception/belief around the league that the Twins aren't even worth talking to if you want big money. That seemed to be what that "source" (who could clearly be nothing to take seriously) was getting at. That's what I was getting at jay, the quote from the source seems to imply that it's a given the Twins aren't worth talking to when serious money is in play. I don't like that and neither should the Twins.
  22. I think one possibility is that they are avoiding Maddon because they don't want it to be perceived as a slight against the two candidates we have narrowed our search down to. My biggest concern from this, if I'm the Twins, is that there continues to be a perception that if money is a big factor - we're irrelevant. We get dismissed out of hand before there is even a token conversation.
  23. It's kind of sad to hear a "source close to Madden" basically say that the perception of others is that the Twins are a bunch of cheapskates who aren't even in the conversation. Even more sad that it may be accurate.
