I get that, but there's a reason why Detroit leans on Monty in those situations. Gibbs is a homerun hitter and I love him, but if you want the nasty, ground and pound, physicality....you'll have to find that back a complement. Unless you got yourself a Saquon Barkley, RB rooms are best built as tandems.

It's amazing what a top flight QB and a pass rush can do to make you a contender.

Maybe I've just watched more of him, I don't see him as that guy. People dogged Montgomery for a lot of reasons too, but power, contact balance, and shiftiness are hard to teach. And as I did in my mock offseason - I added a shifty, all-gas runner too!

Milton Williams is a DT to watch for the Vikes. I'm starting to wonder if they don't tag and trade Darnold.

That front is really good. The back end is pretty mediocre, but those four guys can pressure like maniacs.

I mean, if he's declared a failed pick, that's what he is. Yes, they gave up some mid round picks to move up and get him. I just wouldn't give up on a 21 year old with that kind of freaky athleticism yet.

Hopefully next year when they bulk him up. If the production doesn't come then, it's a failed pick. I certainly agree they passed on guys who would've been better immediate contributors. I'm not sold he's Lewis Cine though.

I'm not worried about Turner per se. I think the problem is that clearly you could've had Verse in the role Patrick Jones occupied, but Turner isn't big enough for that. It's a huge short term (and very possibly long term) miss, but I can see the bend/freaky nature of Turner that had their attention.

No disagreement on the second point. But most teams that are good at running do it in 2-3 yard chunks and then rip off big chunks so I wouldn't hold that against them.

In fairness, you can't run every play. And when he tried that other kind of play the Benny Hill music came on and our QB looked like he had just arrived on the planet and didn't know how to use his arm or brain. Then...snowball.

The Eagles have a great offensive line. Go ahead and count how long Hurts held it. I'll spoil: it was a little over 4 seconds and down he goes. You can't hold the ball longer than 2.5-3 seconds in the playoffs. You're going to get killed.

I don't want to necessarily be that guy....but the Vikings averaged nearly 5 yards a carry against the Rams from their RBs.

I'm going to plant my stake pretty hard on this prediction: Much like Cousins this year, Darnold is going to show in the years to come just how ridiculous it was that he won 14 games. Or that Cousins won 13 two years ago. KOC was single-handidly lifting mediocrity (or worse) to levels higher than it deserved. If JJ is more than mediocrity, your faith will be restored. It ain't the scheme or the play-caller - it's the QB. (That said, it's clear the team needs to invest into a better rushing attack, but I bet KOC would agree on that. The Wilf's mandate not to blow things up and rebuild has made this thing a piecemeal rebuild)

Sean McVay gave up Goff and a crap ton of draft picks for Stafford. If it wasn't evident before: QBing matters. Goff got swallowed up by the moment, gave in to the pressure, and made a bunch of terrible throws. No coach and no game plan can account for what your QB decides to do on the field. Yes, Johnson called an absolutely terrible trick play that did major damage to the team, but Goff threw 4 picks, including a pick 6. The only coaching mistake I saw was thinking that an all-out blitz attack was going to be viable against Daniels. It only worked against Darnold because he completely lost his ability to use his brain and throw the ball. Daniels showed how you make quick decisions, step up in the pocket, and throw available routes underneath. Vikings need their Stafford/Allen/Daniels.

Hey look! It IS legal to make an all out blitz defense pay! QBs who win in the playoffs have to beat pressure. Master class by Daniels while Goff looked terrible.
