    Yeah, this is where we significantly disagree. I think 3 years from now it's much more likely Carroll and Geno had some success and Darnold is a backup somewhere. If Sam Darnold and his agent don't have a set team and play ball then you absolutely do risk the cap room to leverage a pick. Hardball works both ways. This move only cements, IMO, that Darnold is still seeking a clear suitor. (For weeks the presumption was the Raiders and that was all smoke) I would suggest that's only further reinforced by the fact that the NFL rumor mill thinks Rodgers and Darnold are in play for the Vikings. Teams are playing their chips tight. That environment isn't one well served to gamble in.

    Yeah, I figured an extension was coming. I think Darnold gets something more like 2/60 but the guarantees make it closer to 1/30. Guess we'll see, :)

    Geno has one year at 25M. He's a better QB than Darnold IMO. It's probably a good indication that Darnold shouldn't be looking at more than 25M AAV.

    They paid him starter money too. Reports are 2 years 12M. So I was way underestimating that one.

    I was leading the squad of people talking about how bad he was at the end, but maybe the league got even more sour about it than I expected too. With a bad draft and so many needy teams, I really though the guy could do better than 1 year at 25M. For the record....I don't want him back at any price. Even 1 year 5M and I'd pass just because I don't want to create a QB competition.

    I would sure hope the team was looking. I'd also have some serious issues if that wasn't even pursued.

    I definitely am on board with dealing guys when the time is right. When Cousins was hurt...Hunter should've been traded. Everything not bolted down should've been traded. But I also think ownership of the Vikings is heavily pressuring KAM not to be that guy. I have no proof of that, but that's what I believe. So in that sense, I do agree the Vikings missed an opportunity with Hunter. Thuney is a salary dump, but he's a still a damn good player to get for a 4th.

    I agree with your overall point, but to be clear: the Chiefs offensive line just got a lot worse with that move. And they have a day 3 pick to show for it. I wonder if KAM would've done more of this stuff if not for the ownership mandate not to strip the ship for parts and blow it up.

    Thuney is good value for the Bears for sure. Even if he's on the down slope that's an easy swap.

    Welp...that didn't take long. Feel bad for the kid, sometimes your genetics are a really sad tease. Hope he finds a path to pursue his passions!

    Here's the thing though....would that have made sense in any of those cases? I get that this is the Phil Mackey talking point, but it's incredibly surface level. Kirk Cousins would've taken that franchise tag, signed it, and happily played under it. Goodbye Greenard. Goodbye Gink. Goodbye all sorts of options. Plus another year of Kirk. And by the looks of it we damn sure wouldn't have got anything for him this year. Hunter would've meant no Greenard, no Gink, no FA contracts. He might've also stayed. Maybe you could've squeezed someone for an asset, he's the best case for it. But it would've come with costs. And Darnold? Time was on his side. If his agency didn't like the tag and denying them free agency....they could refuse to sign it, taking the cap room from the Vikings, and slow playing their interest in being moved. The Vikings miss out on free agency, have a disgruntled player eating 40M, and watch their market for a return shrink. Basically, if the player and their agent don't want to play ball.....there is no ball to play here. The only way this would've worked is one of Darnold's pursuers want him badly enough to start trade talks. It sounds like that didn't happen.

    A trade takes two. All those teams need to do is be patient, so there is leverage both ways. 40M is Jevon Holland, Will Fries, and a veteran CB. It's a significant shackle.

    What if the Raiders decide to drag their feet? Or the Giants? Even a week with 40M tied up in Darnold is enough to effectively take us out of the free agency game. Look, I lean towards sign and trade, but there are serious drawbacks if things don't go smoothly. Are you willing to risk your shot at a top guard, DB, and pass rusher to pick up a 3rd?

    Right...it comes down to your confidence you can trade him. If you can't.....that's a huge chunk of spending room gone.

    Sounds great! I hope he put in a ton of glovework also. Even if he masters hitting breaking stuff from righties, he can't play himself off the field with his glove and have it matter.

    It'd be great if those three would force the other three into bench or released roles. I think the team might lose me if France-Vasquez-Bader is a regular roll-out.

    Are we sure Matt Wallner isn't the team's best hitter? The fact that this is a perfectly reasonable conversation (and a fine idea to do) is more of a reflection on how shallow the lineup is than anything else. I

    You can count out Mecki Bechton for sure.

    I think they'll lose 40M in spending room until it clears. But you can come to terms with FAs and not officially sign them until you free the space. IMO.....trade talks should be happening now and hopefully getting Sam's blessing.

    I like Fulton, he was a dude I targeted too. Offensive line is such a problem in the league that I think, across the board, dudes are going to get paid more than current projections. For our sake, I hope I'm wrong.

    Probably right, but let's just be clear on who the current members of the Vikings secondary are: Mecki Blackmon, Jay Ward, Josh Metellus, Dwight McGlothern and like 4 guys that may or may not be in charge of gatorade. It's going to cost 15M just to get 3 competent guys in that room. (And they need at least 3)
