  1. We'll this particular deal was a huge future gamble, but a justified one I think. Price might provide some stability to a talented, but floundering, bunch of starters.
  2. If LAA calls about Trout for Nolasco and Escobar I sure as hell hope we don't follow your rule drjim. People remember Young for the aggravating mess he became, but he was highly prized at the time of the trade. Jimmer is right that the logic was sound, just bad execution.
  3. And say what you want about his role in the collapse, but he did more for the teams contention efforts in 2010 than Ryan has done for all of his comtending teams combined.
  4. He royally screwed up the SS position and his Capps deal was awful, but most of it was age and awful luck. And there was nothing from his predecessor to help.
  5. Most people were fine with Garza for Young. We freaked about Bartlett and the reliever. Santana and Hunter were on Ryan.
  6. Ryan has time to redeem himself. He's made strides in his offseason aggressiveness and the only reason this team is even contending is the starting pitching he acquired. But trading at the deadline is still a major weakness in his resume that deserves attention by fans (and likely players) that want to see this team stay in it.
  7. Blaming the 2011 collapse on Smith would be like blaming Jerry Kill for the Gophers being bad his first year. (And that's not even including horrendous injury luck to Morneau, Mauer, and a host of others. You know, the things that expose a soft AAA talent base)
  8. This thread title wins the "not funny" award for 2015.
  9. It may be true about lion populations (maybe, even if it is, I find our preaching to Africa about preserving natural predators more than a bit hollow), but trophy hunting is about a wide range of animals. That money, according to some, is directly related to financing conservation efforts. Given the state of Most African economies, that may be a valid retort.
  10. 1) Its unclear whether or not there are ecological benefits to these hunts. There are plenty of people who make that case, including the nations sanctioning it. 2) Just because internet rage orgies last for short times doesnt mean they dont inflict major damage. Its essentially anonymous domestic terrorism.
  11. I wonder if Ryan is aware he can make a move before July 31st? (Or at all based on his history) Most of this angst is 15 years in the making and understandably so.
  12. Curtesy of Brock, but quite relevant. The guy is likely not guilty of any crime: http://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/cecil-lion-what-could-happen-walter-james-palmer-hunters-n400461?cid=sm_fb
  13. Surprised the Brewers didn't ask for Lagares too. Very interesting deal.
  14. I don't believe that was the meaning of subset in Pseudo's remark. Hence the nature of my response. And I agree he should be extradited to face charges if they are pursued. But there isa deliberate effort online and in real life to destroy this guy.
  15. You're right, makes way more sense to destroy this guy and accomplish nothing. And this is no subset, this appears to be the majority of those complaining.
  16. In fairness though, Hicks wasn't just a non-star immediately, he was historically incompetent and obviously overmatched. And the Twins continually jammed him into the lineup regardless - that was the problem. (The team also publicly called out his work habits)
  17. Plus, unlike Gardy, I don't think Molitor planned to get tossed. Gardy would frequently do exactly that and I've seen nothing like that from Molitor.
  18. That depends on the consistency of your views. If this is wrong because lions are endangered its fine to think this guy a scumbag, but the bulk of your energy should be focused on the countries encouraging it (granting permits) and not on destroying one guy's life.
  19. They don't have to blow you away, they could be an unknown. Our current options are known garbage we keep trudging out. Just being not-them IS good enough.
  20. I'm not justifying it, I'm just calling out the hypocrisy and hollow reasoning. Personally I think most all hunting is cruel. We should just domesticate deer if we want to eat them. So why don't we? Simple, really, because we like to shoot things and call it hunting. And because we have built a web of bizarre hypocrisy that one thing is fine to kill and another isn't.
  21. No one is overstating their results. The statement is they can't possibly be worse and at least offer some hope of being better.
  22. When your pen is this bad you risk NOTHING trying other options. But it's insanity to keep thinking you can do the same thing and magically get different results.
  23. The best part of him eventually move to a corner is that it will eliminate the angles that he bungles most often. But his bat has looked like it belongs to a new man.
  24. I don't care what you think of Achter or Oliveras but even if they are awful, that result is no different than the status quo. But at least there is a chance, even briefly, that they aren't awful. What we're doing is the old definition of insanity and, even more strangely, people are justifying it!
