  1. That Mr. Walker is going to have to dramatically cut down on that K rate against minor league pitching before I want him called up. It's certainly not that winning championships earns a call.
  2. Exactly. He's giving us the ideal opportunity this offseason. We simply don't have the pitching to do anything in the near future unless we trade and Dozier is far and away the best option for that.
  3. I normally really like Barreiro, but he keeps falling on this sword and it's tired. I could give two craps about what the players do after wins and losses. I care what they do to make wins or losses on the field. Chief is right, we'd all be better off if Twitter stopped existing. The sum whole of humanity would be better for it.
  4. By sacrifices I assume you mean "outs"?
  5. I love what I'm seeing. I hope the new regime has less rigidity than the Twins have seemed to have for the last few decades.
  6. And we lose 8-7 for the next few years until Dozier is 32 and not retained anyway in your scenario Shane. Sell high if it's out there. It's, by far, the smartest course of action.
  7. I think it's a bit premature to call Berrios a stud. I really like the kid and believe he'll figure it out, but I've believed that before and been wrong.
  8. Sorry for your loss, but I enjoy watching Notre Dame lose. It's in my top five along with the Yankees, Cowboys, and whichever team Lebron James has decided to mercenary for.
  9. Just because teams don't appear to "need" a 2B at this stage of the season doesn't mean there won't be interest later. Lots of things can change and teams can determine they need a power hitter and target Dozier and figure the rest out later. All any of us can say is to do the right thing: shop the ever loving hell out of him and see what's out there. Keeping him, or telling teams he is off limits, or anything remotely like that should be an immediately fire-able offense even if we just hired the guy.
  10. Expanding that rule to sliding QBs was absolutely indefensible. Unless college defensive players all have Jedi powers that I'm not aware of. You want to make football safer? Mandate all teams teach Rugby tackling and expand the range that DBs can be in contact with receivers to 10 yards.
  11. Kaepernick's vegan diet alone is enough to think differently.
  12. I'm honestly not sure Kaepernick will ever be a starting caliber QB again, regardless of where you stand on his stance.
  13. Where's that blind squirrel picture again......
  14. Except that may not be true. Had we tried to deal him last offseason, people would have seen a half season of much less prolific play and likely have altered his value. Obviously, none of us can know for sure, but it's also not impossible (may even be probable) we see another swoon that likewise jeopardizes his value.
  15. At this point I really don't think there is much more I can get mad about. They've beat me down. But every day of September that Trevor Plouffe or Joe Mauer or anyone else takes at-bats away from Vargas or Sano is inexcusable.
  16. Please, please don't let a few good weeks cause us to do anything dumb. Whatever baseball gods are listening....please. We may need to hunt down Nick Punto as a sacrifice or something to prevent what feels inevitable.
  17. After what he did from July last year to May of this year, I'll never fully trust Dozier. I'll always be waiting for him to go pumpkin on us again. Deal him if you get good value. It's the smart thing to do for this club, given this player's track record and age, and given the team's current state.
  18. Coming to Twins Daily is a breath of fresh air for me. It helps me remember that not all places in the world are over-hot armpit, driving death trap, poorly educated, stuck in the 1960s hell holes like Arizona. So, I guess that's another reason i'm rooting for Vikings Journal!
  19. Perfect example - I will always credit Ryan with this move, not criticize him. The intent/method was correct. Sometimes they just don't work out. Trading MVP candidates for high ceiling A ball players and low ceiling AAA players is NEVER a move I will endorse. Hell, I think the team needs to punt next season but I'd still, and always, endorse finding any GM who wants to trade their young stud players for a bunch of low minors lottery tickets. If Ryan had done that I'd praise him. If Ryan or anyone else sells Sano for something like it - I'll go crazy. Just like i did when Beane was dumb enough to do it.
  20. Yup, I remember wanting to punch kittens while I was in the middle of it. There was a really concerted effort to pedestalize Mr. Beane even in the face of an inexplicable series of moves.
  21. Sure, teach flexibility.....in the minors. Don't toss career infielders into the outfield and call it innovative. This thread of the conversation started based on the spot-on criticism Nick laid out about not putting players in a position to succeed. The Cardinals are doing it and they are a bottom quartile team defense. Doing something no one else is doing is only redeemable if it works and gives you an advantage. Playing catchers and infielders in the outfield doesn't seem like a real strong chance of being that. Again, we could also field an entire lineup out of pitchers and get credit for being innovative, but being innovative isn't the point. Being better than the rest of the league is. If something innovative will help with that - go for it. Playing guys out of position and not maximizing their strengths is just a terrible idea on the face of it.
  22. Agreed and people should go back and read that Donaldson thread. There are some whoppers in there. As in, you should change your avatar to someone with a paper bag over their head bad. Some of the criticism here on the GM and the manager is based on perception. We hammer people we've already decided aren't good enough at their job and not on the merit of the move or the totality of the situation. And, likewise, we defer to the wisdom of people like Beane no matter what the deal itself looks like. That should be something we endeavor to avoid.
  23. You clearly, totally missed my point about Suzuki. Maddon isn't being hailed as a genius for that stuff, the article was merely stating that more teams are trying it.
  24. Clearly the only response that properly pays homage to this thread goes something like this: Suits that are READYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!
  25. I don't mind the fun aspect, but I love actual, smart analysis too. Arief was so freaking good, when he left it ripped a major part of my reason for being there.
