Falvey: Minnesota Twins Are Not Focused On Selling
TheLeviathan replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I'll speak for myself: it isn't the lack of a declaration of selling that bugs me but the wishy-washy injury excuses that do. This team isn't even close to having an injury epidemic relative to what other teams are experiencing. How about this as a response? "Teams don't make decisons on buying and selling in June and we're no different. What decides our actions at the deadline is how we play right now. We need to find a way to win games and I need to do what I can to help give Rocco the best roster to do that right now" And that's if.....as you note....he makes the mistake to open his mouth at all. -
Well, b*tching about Baldelli is harder in a 10-1 win so that cuts out like 87% of those that comment.

No idea. He's still good defensively and someone might buy-in to a bounceback.

Yup, I am under no delusion that all of this is realistic. After what leaked from Houston about the dumb*** discussions real GMs have? I rule nothing out.

I would be excited that they got lucky and won this year's Small Sample Size of Glory. I just also recognize it for what it is - a gauntlet of luck and skill with the emphasis on luck and good timing. If a 91 win Twins team upsets a 108 win Dodgers team I'm going to celebrate. But I'm also sure as hell going to know who the better team was. Baseball, of all the major sports, is the one that is least likely to crown the best team at the end of the year. That's just a fact. It doesn't have to take away from my enjoyment to not pretend it's a bit silly.

Alright, here's my suggestion for a retool at the deadline (yes, this is for fun but trying to be semi-reasonable) 1 - Trade Willie Castro, Columbe and Ty France to San Fran for 1B Bryce Eldridge and Trent Harris 2 - Trade Johan Duran to the Cubs for OF Kevin Alcantara and SP Jack Neely 3 - Trade Harrison Bader to Cardinals for C Jimmy Crooks 4 - Trade Chris Paddack to Brewers for 1B/3B Luke Adams And lastly? You call up those crazy Padres and see if they'd trade C Salas and P Bradley Rodriguez for Correa. My pipedream totally retools the team in a balanced, athletic way!

Ok, well here's some math: If the World Series decided the best team/most talented roster in baseball we'd be on a 6-7 year run of the Dodgers winning. Instead they've won two. How is it that the best team in baseball can have a 29% win rate in the playoffs if something other than talent isn't involved? Let me give you a recent Twins example to illustrate: Because guys like Kody Clemons can go on a two week heater that they'll never see again. Who had major roles in taking down the Dodgers in 2023? Noted ace Bradon Pfaadt, noted sluggers Gabriel Moreno, Alek Thomas, and Thommy Pham. 2022? Jake Cronenworth, Austin Nolan, Trent Grisham 2021 - I mean, we all remember the heater Eddie Rosario and Jorge Soler went on right? 2019? Anibal Sanchez. Yup, read that right. 2018? Steve Pearce. 2017? George Springer basically single-handedly. The point is simple: the 162 games decide the best team. The World Series is just a small sample size buzzsaw rife with the same problems any small sample is prone to: unsustainable, unpredictable slumps or heaters. You should put as much stock in playoff results as you would your consideration on giving Kody Clemens a 7 year contract for his production in mid May. You should be as ready to celebrate the World Series winner as the "best team" as you would be to award the Twins the best team for two random weeks in May. Yet somehow so many people just ignore the reality of that small sample because of the myth and legacy of playoffs. But that's all it is - fanfare masking the small sample chaos.

Starting rotation….Trevor Bauer

Anyone know any necromancy? I'm willing to go further back if it keeps Bauer off the team. -
Falvey: Minnesota Twins Are Not Focused On Selling
TheLeviathan replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
This strikes me as "How can I help the clubhouse feel like we have their back?" Which is an annoying tendency in the modern game. I don't want you publicly lambasting anyone, but don't give me empty praise either. -
Exactly this. In baseball especially the roster impacts far more than the manager. I think there is an organizational failure (to which Baldelli shares blame) that doesn't emphasize athleticism, fundamentals, and putting pressure on opponents. But the truth is....Kelly was given some garbage teams and they played like garbage too. Nothing Baldelli can do to make Trevor Larnach a 1st to 3rd threat. Or Royce "Runnin' in Molasses" Lewis. A baseball manager is the middlest of middle management. By all means ask to fire him, but it's not the heart of the problem. Also....World Series are nothing more than sample size victories. Those are dictated by luck as much as talent. I know that will cause some people to throw their canes in the air and hobble towards the sky to yell, but it's the truth.

I don't love how we line up with them on need. Their starter Ullola would fit nice, but everyone else is further away than I'd target. This team should be targeting AA and AAA talent.

Rationally speaking I think this is the correct answer. However..... What's one thing we can guarantee on the same level as the sun rising, death, and taxes? Cheap ass Pohlads. Saving money is paramount to them. It's the one thing giving me hope that we might sell. Dealing Castro, France, Bader, Paddack, Columbe, Vazquez, and floating Correa gives them money in their pockets. Perhaps that is motivation enough to do more than the usual.

It's as simple as this - they're still in "Sell" mode as ownership. They won't pay to fire the current FO and hire a new one. The current FO is fully on board with Rocco. This shouldn't be surprising. For better or worse, this is what it is as long as the Pohalds are still circling the franchise sale.

I hope you're right and Keaschall is a guy that looks a bit closer to that....but man I'm sick of watching other teams be able to run and we just station to station ourselves to death.

It's clear that Milwaukee emphasizes drafting players who are athletes - they can run and field. The ownership situation gives me zero confidence we'll see changes, but man would I like to see a new FO that does more to add athletes to this farm system. I'm pretty happy with what they do on pitching overall, but we need to overhaul the other part of our draft work.

If that's what is most important to him....let it be. It's hilarious how wrong Gambo was on the reporting on this. There is no freaking way the Wolves offered what he claimed considering this is what they took in return. Not to mention, he reported HOuston had stopped talking to them at all and any deal would have Jabari Smith included. I hope they win 40 and Durant enjoys his money.

Question of the week: what’s the biggest need?
TheLeviathan replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I will take that with added talent over losing 85 and spinning our wheels.
