  1. I liked the first episode and the tone and the weirdness to it are pretty cool. That said, I'm kind of over the gratuitously obnoxious blood balloon type of "action". Twice in that episode it delved into that and i'm really not a fan. Realistic violence I'm ok with and even for two hours (ala Sin City) I can deal with it. But every episode of a show? That might grate on me.
  2. Sorry, my apologies. I wasn't saying "you" personally, more in general how the question and WAR are approached. I would say though, if you don't feel as though pitching and hitting WAR is comparable, I wonder again why we use the same term for it. Doesn't that lend itself to unnecessary confusion? (And, again, I know that isn't your call or anything, just an observation)
  3. I guess I would ask better questions. I would ask "who is the best hitter" and then I might look at wRC+ or OPS. There are better, more precise stats to measure other questions. The "is that starting pitcher more valuable than that catcher" is, IMO, where you start to go off the rails in the first place. I appreciate why we want this, but i don't necessarily agree we've found a way to measure that yet.
  4. To build on this and mike's excellent post: Don't we talk all the time in our current political environment how one's words and actions can create an environment in which some feel emboldened? No one is excusing anyone, but pointing to what might have created an environment of hostility and retribution.
  5. Perhaps the problem is embedded in your question? Perhaps determining "the overall value of a player" across all positions is the real root of the issue? I find WAR to be a lot like all the other stats - useful, when taken in the proper context. But just like Jack Morris uses wins in all the wrong ways, I find many that do the same with WAR. They pay lipservice to the problems (just as Jack and Bert do about wins) but nevertheless charge headlong into those problems when they use the stat.
  6. This wouldn't shock me at all. Violence and ugliness only begets itself.
  7. It's hard when you have kids too, because if you get up to do that it can scare them. And make you (and your kids) the target. I had some idiots behind me at a Brewers game once and, thankfully, another fan who was not with his children went to security so that no parents with kids had to get up. I wanted to get up, but that only singles you and your family out for idiots like this, then you jeopardize the nastiness being directed at your children. (I've seen that happen as a non-parent to a poor family)
  8. So in the Civil War who was the arrogant elite? The north?
  9. I know when I think about Great Americans who settle things the right way, my first thought is Andrew Jackson. I mean, good lord this guy. With some of his recent comments, does he even make it half of his first term before he simply resigns?
  10. I'm being patient on Buxton. But yes, he could jump them on to the next level. To build on this, at some point this lineup could be really, really lethal: Dozier Polanco Buxton Sano Kepler Grossman Mauer Castro Rosario Even more lethal if anyone can convince Brian Dozier he gets into heaven easier if he bats 5th.....
  11. DVR'd it last night, looking forward to it after Saul tonight. Neil Gaiman is a pretty weirdly awesome dude. Sandman is worth a look too.
  12. Those of us who doubted the Twins ability to compete this year could be proven very much wrong by this one guy. Adding an effective Berrios to Santiago and Santana could very well put this team in it to the end. And I'd very much love to be wrong.
  13. A title like this and not even one reference to how devilishly handsome he is? Tsk, tsk....
  14. So....you're saying we shouldn't see any ridiculous articles about his weight then? Good for Sano, people really had to look hard to find ways to ding this kid. He's always struck me as being a far more determined player than he's given credit for. And I freaking love his personality - punish the baseball and have fun!
  15. Right, there is really no downside. If they flop, we have some kids that were going to need time, but also need to pitch this year. If they succeed and you're good - it's one less thing you need. If they succeed and you stink, you have attractive deadline bait. It's easily my biggest complaint about this FO so far. I had Storen-Holland-Feliz as targets and I would've tried to sign two of them.
  16. Agreed. I'd have loved Holland too. We had money and openings and bullpen always has demand midseason. Missed opportunity.
  17. Direct quotes: Storen 1 year and 3M makes me sad. We should've doubled that. On Tyson Ross: 2 years 20M - I'm on board. And sign Storen too while we're at it. There are 8 more times I said it this offseason. 8.
  18. Go ahead. Look back at who I wanted them to sign. My username and "Storen". 10 posts that completely refute this BS. Don't level something like that without taking a few seconds to see if it's true. Storen was my first choice all off-season and if he was flaming out, I'd still stand by that he was my pick.
  19. Well, yeah. But then Buxton.... It's always a bright spot IMO, when guys elevate to the next level, because that isn't a given.
  20. Storen represented upside, something this bullpen is nearly devoid of.
  21. Wish we had room for Drew Storen.....
  22. I agree Spike and you brought up a good point: The way the game is played in the playoffs is something our guys need to adjust to. Coyle did and Parise seemed to pick up his intensity as well. I'd probably throw Zucker in that also. But Nino and a few others have to appreciate that intensity a bit more.
  23. At some point presence can be seen as provocation or a continuance of an adversarial relationship. We know this is a factor for hostility in other areas as well, particularly in the Middle East. I think that could be part of this.
  24. Granny had a broken hand. This team was as well built for the playoffs as any in the league really IMO. I think they let a goalie get in their heads. And a goalie played with an uncanny combination of skill and luck against them and in hockey, in a small sample, that's basically a guaranteed exit.
  25. I'm not suggesting for sure that we should withdraw, but the results of our presence are hard to argue either way.
