  1. Let's hope it was putrid enough that there isn't a sequel.
  2. Well give some guys a day off after all and come back against Sale tomorrow. Empty the bench! Wait....
  3. Right, I wasn't suggesting that. Just suggesting that he might have spent time actually learning a position or refining his game and instead it seems like that all stalled out. Even with a normalized BABIP the guy should have still been able to be turned into a functional player, it's not like he is devoid of skills. He just can't seem to make them work.
  4. For reasons no rational brain can figure out.....walk-offs are allowed to be a mosh pit of exuberance. But only this. http://thestagnantfilipino.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Stupidity-And-Beyond.jpg
  5. Well said, I'm not as convinced they'll go down, but if they do I think the Dems are in for a long four years.
  6. Well, I believe so too, but there is an outcome for this that we should consider: What if premiums do actually go down?
  7. I agree, I don't think the Twins did many favors by Santana. They called up a middling player in 2014 who shocked them with his production and then I think his development went off the rails. Likely though, he was never going to be much. I don't mind having him in AAA and maybe someone could work with him on his baserunning and defense so he could actually be a viable bench piece.
  8. Well, he tried to get their attention back at that World Series parade in 2016.......
  9. I'm just thankful I'm not latin and on a baseball field, I'm sure you'd feel a 95 mph baseball to my body would "solve" your hurt feelings. Someday I genuinely hope the intelligent poster you are the bulk of the time wins out, as it does for so many that feel as you do. And hopefully some player on the field doesn't have to suffer severely first.
  10. You should at least attempt to frame it fairly. I think inflating a rivalry based on nonsense emboldens people to inflate their own nonsense. And that nonsense comes in many forms, including racism. But I refuse to support a system, as you do, that routinely gives shade to players to act in a racist way. But I guess, how else will we have competition if we don't bean Latin players into submission. Right?
  11. I like how exit velocity could become a really cool measure to study. But I'm with Chief, perhaps we should be a little more cautious in how we talk about it. We are just starting to use the data and see it, it's far from anything to draw sweeping conclusions from.
  12. Slow day rooting for rich white guys throwing at uppity latinos eh? That behavior is dumb no matter the sport, baseball just celebrates it more than the others. Or justifies it more.
  13. With his command issues he may not be a major league pitcher at all. It's a shame, that trade didn't work out but I supported the reasoning behind it. Some guys just never put all that talent together.
  14. I actually look at the failures of the ACA and the inevitable failures of this as steps towards eventually just joining the rest of the world and do single payer.
  15. Look, this isn't uncommon or specific to the Twins. I mean, the worst at it (by far) is Belichek. This isn't some Twins specific criticism. What I was referring to was the way the FO talks about the "why". This isn't about whether or not a transaction is happening, it's how they respond when the fan base or the media starts asking the questions about "why". You'll almost never hear a sports organization talk openly about why they are doing something that isn't overwhelmingly popular among their fan base. They'll be vague to protect themselves or the player, they'll say things to reassure the fan base (and the player), or they'll just flat out say what they think makes the problem go away quickest. I don't see why I should put any more stock in that BS. I'm not sure I can think of an organization that doesn't operate this way. At least a lot of the posters here are just trying to figure things out because they care about the team. Both have reasons to be skeptical.
  16. To obfuscate. At least the posters here are genuinely trying to make sense of things. Most FOs stand in front of cameras and microphones and intentionally do the exact opposite. At best they seek to placate.
  17. Honestly, I'm not sure why. Organizations blow smoke at us all the time.
  18. Agreed, but some posters here too.
  19. Man are some tunes going to magically change if Berrios is the guy who gets the call.....
  20. So......how do the Dems screw this up?
  21. High school kids care and show emotion and don't engage in that. Ditto most town ball teams. Kids play the game thousands of times a day without what you say is necessary. But you go ahead and bring up arguments about class. That seems real freaking silly while your precious unwritten rules are used so often to punish Latin players for their heritage and style.
  22. Gee, I've coached high school football for five years and have seen a determined effort to show sportsmanship. As I've seen throughout my time working in schools. It's strange how you believe a paycheck necessarily has to change the expectations for conduct. Or maybe you should just admit - you pay for blood. That's what you like. And you're not alone, I just very much disagree with it.
  23. I have a problem with any human who takes some small slight and blows it wildly out of proportion and acts like a giant tool. Many of these tools then decide to hurl baseballs or fists at each other to rectify the trumped up slight. I don't care where that happens, it's stupid. And I don't find it entertaining. I like competition and sports, not tools trying to out-piss each other over slights. Sports are played thousands of times every day without it, despite your claims. Saying "that's how it is" is a fallacy that ignores the real contention being made by many of us here, fangraphs, and a host of others.
  24. And the NFL harshly punished the bounty thing. One can play with physicality and to win the battle without deliberate intention to injure. One can have a rivalry without fights. One can have competition with the intent to win, not harm your opponent physically. I would suggest this entire paragraph is where you go wrong. And it is very much Hans Moleman "We paid for blood!" sort of thinking. Someday, someone will use these unwritten rules in a way that shocks you and I think (because I genuinely find you a thoughtful, intelligent person) you'll look back on this and wonder what the hell you were smoking.
