  1. In four years Kepler will be 30 and he might not be the same defensive player he is now. At some point during htis contract he's going to have to have enough offense to offset the fact he is getting older.
  2. I think that depends on whether Kepler improves his hitting. (Which I think he can and I'm in his corner on that) The "value" here isn't going to be determined by a corner OF who gets most of his WAR from defense....it's the bat that will determine that. 2018 Kepler in 4 years, at this price, isn't much of an asset IMO. The flip side, is that his defensive value means any incremental improvements we see on offense will lead to significant value increases.
  3. Turns out it wasn't two white men in the Smollett case either. They've arrested two Nigerian men. I hope, at some point, there is a realization that jumping to conclusions too quickly actually hurts the forward momentum of justice for those hurt by racist or homophobic behavior.
  4. I would really, really like to keep this kid in the rotation. I get why people are excited about him in the bullpen, but that excitement should get squashed real soon when you think about our rotation options without him.
  5. Outside of Phoenix I pay about $140 for internet, Directv, and netflix. I could drop the dish but it wouldn't save me much, the internet is the bulk of that cost.
  6. Good for him.
  7. It's definitely a left-sided attack. To me, I viewed it as the further edges of the left view her as a threat and are trying to knock her down before she starts.
  8. The similarities in these bad spin-jobs really do lend to the idea of collusion. At the very least there is serious group-think happening.
  9. It's so true. There are pieces that are encouraging....but then you feel like you need to MST3K some of the awful stuff they put in. I have trouble describing it to people, it's like the good parts of the X-men movies with a lot of Batman v Superman "Martha" moments that pop up to keep you confused/irritated/emotions I can't explain.
  10. 3M more this season doesn't make me feel all that great about the front-loading aspect and doesn't alleviate the lack of FA action at all. That said, I'm good with both contracts. I hope both players have great runs with the Twins under those deals.
  11. I hear people talking about the front-loading aspect, but I can't find the details? What does the structure look like per year?
  12. Is the newest season on Prime yet? We watched the first....two I think?...but the one that was last aired on Sci-Fi wasn't out yet. I enjoy hate watching The Gifted right now too.
  13. Mike, the link doesn't seem to work.
  14. Any offseason plan that doesn't include restructuring or cutting Rudolph is not one I can get behind. I'm with Danchat on the vast majority of things, but I wouldn't trade Waynes but instead open that money by cutting Rudolph. It's a little less wiggle room but I'd rather keep Waynes and either get a comp pick for him in a year or so or move on from Rhodes down the line. I'd also get our backup running back in the draft. I like this running back group and feel very comfortable with Boone/Thomas/Rookie. I wouldn't spend that kind of money on Yeldon.
  15. In fairness, these same points were made prior to Trump winning the first time. And we all know how that turned out. Assumptions are dangerous. It's important, IMO, to approach this with a more concrete strategy for winning. We still elect the President with the electoral college, whomever whens the Democratic nomination better be able to hold the blue states and flip a few midwestern/rust-belt states. So then you ask yourself....what appeal accomplishes that? Too early to say at this point probably, but that's how you win.
  16. I have a similar group I go out with for drinks. Weed smokers, outright socialist, etc. I enjoy those conversations and as someone who is in favor of many liberal platforms (with some caution) it makes for good conversation. But as you said, they listen to the counter points that put their beliefs on shaky ground. They're willing to concede that there are weaknesses to their suggestions. Then I listen to your average liberal activist and I wonder if we ought to be building an arc to save humanity as a species before conservatives and liberals around the world slowly choke us all to death with their insufferable stupidity. GoFundMe page for a space arc, I'm warming up to it.
  17. The first Dem who uses the word "Woke" during campaigning should be shot into space. For the greater good really. So many of your average liberals can be absolutely insufferable to listen to, much yet side with at the voting booth. Yet....I want to...because the Republicans are bordering on evil. They have to lose and lose badly. I just wish the left wouldn't it make it so freaking hard to join up with them.
  18. I have several seriously left wing things I support. So what matters to me is winning so they have a chance of coming true. I am putting my policy biases (among other views, because I fit in no classification, moderate included) to the side in favor of election wins. Or more specifically, Republican losses. You are not. You want your cake and to eat it too. That mentality on the left has mostly resulted in nation wide butt kickings. Vote and support to win, let the nitty gritty happen later.
  19. Doesn't that speak more to who you nominate and less about policy?
  20. The last two Democrats who won were moderates. That pretty well defuses your argument. The problem that lead you to that flawed conclusion is you are too interested in your politics and losing sight of the reality on the ground. Moving center wasn't Hillary or Kerry's problem. Their problem was they were unrelatable stiffs. Especially in key areas of the country. Americans don't care about policy when they vote. That's missing the forest for the trees. The more liberals split themselves with these asinine "not left enough" arguments the more they lose. Dems should talk about issues people care about in a way that expands the voter base. In general, that means holding your base while reaching center. What you argue here is destined to lose. I don't want that. I want to kick Republicans out of office in droves. Too often the left does their best to sabotage that.
  21. At this point, the desperation and frustration is at a fever pitch. There will be a long, brutal strike in the near future.
  22. Elaborate please?
  23. If a right-wing outlet had run that story the left would have their hair on fire about the role of gender in that piece. I'm not sure if I'd vote for Klobuchar for the nomination yet, but this does not factor in one bit.
  24. The Democrats did not lose because they ran to the center. They lost because they lost their center. Run lefties where they can win, but a lefty isn't going to reverse Hillary's outcome. Turning out liberals doesn't fix the loss in the electoral college. And, ultimately, that's what you have to win. Kamala Harris isn't likely to flip Wisconsin or Ohio or Pennsylvania back to blue. Running a coastal, left-wing candidate against Trump is handing him four more years.
