  1. Holy crap! How am I only hearing of this now? Sheen and Tenant...this will be a must watch.
  2. It doesn't really change the point though does it? If you can't hit (and Buxton overwhelmingly has not), those things don't matter because you won't get the opportunity. Buxton has roughly been to the Twins what Pedro Florimon was in 2014. That player doesn't get to play because they are simply too poor offensively to justify it. We can appreciate those things Buxton brings, but it doesn't change the reality of the situation. With Sano we are hoping to see him rise to our hopes. With Buxton we're not even sure he's worthy of a roster spot. There is a major, major difference.
  3. Well we can't have that! But I'd vote we could start ripping the equipment managers....they've been getting off easy for far too long anyway.
  4. It is debatable, unfortunately any attempts to quantify become loaded with assumptions. I think Passan had an article recently where a manager was quoted as saying they basically did nothing, but this is an opinion I have that doesn’t have data. Just a hunch with a lot of plausible speculation.
  5. I disagree. Managers add almost nothing. Will it be hard to replace him? No. But that’s true for pretty much anyone with that title IMO. Especially in today’s game. Talent is king, whoever the new guy is better hope he is afforded a lot more of it.
  6. I'm not going to disparage Mauer, I think he's a HOFer. But he was nowhere near the player Pujols or Miguel Cabrera were. Pujols hit 400 HRs in that decade. He out-paced Mauer by almost 16 WAR over that time. I think we can appreciate Mauer without too much hyperbole.
  7. I know, was just throwing the sarcasm out and going straight for the jugular,
  8. Also, upthread someone wanted Luvello.....did we miss how that team collapsed? In part because their bullpen imploded? (Quite possibly from overuse)
  9. Not that hard for me. More like "Reads name at the top of resume.....laughs hilariously"
  10. Good luck to Paul, the decision is justifiable though. I don't know who the next manager will be, but I'm sure of one thing: fans here and elsewhere will have no trouble finding all sorts of issues with their management choices. They'll be wrong all the time and we'll make all sorts of assumptions about their motivation styles, in-game decisions, and use of veterans. As it ever shall be.
  11. There is zero chance the Diamondbacks sign him. Zero.
  12. That's probably a good bet. The Mets are the other team I'd place high on the list. I wonder if the White Sox are also a darkhorse.
  13. That's a good question. I think ultimately someone caves to that idea, but I do wonder what that means for his market. Who currently has a SS opening that might spend that much money? The Twins can absolutely be in on this and offer to let him play SS. I wish I could feel like hope about this is justified.
  14. I think SS is pretty solid and so is OF, particularly since I think Machado signs as a SS only. I would love Manny, but barring that dream I prioritize Inglesias and trades. My point was 1B/DH/Donaldson are nowhere near the top.
  15. This is a really, really weak group. I think signing Escobar is the best thing we can do here and move on to other positions. I don't mind a flyer on Donaldson, but it doesn't thrill me.
  16. Time to open up the checkbook. Should be a fun offseason.
  17. I think this conversation should be one people remember in criticizing a manager. We have two sides on the Stewart decision making rational arguments about a hypothetical situation. It's a tough spot to be in to consistently predict which hypothetical is the one to go with. I tend to side with Chief's perspective on the macro level, but that doesn't stop people from complaining on the micro. Maybe it should temper it a bit though.
  18. I'm not in a rush to dump them, but they'll have to show more not to be labeled a flop. The position they were drafted at necessitates a larger contribution than they are currently showing. If these were late first round picks...ok. But they weren't.
  19. Your spin is as optimistic as possible. I'd look at a team that got a lot of career pitching years and a few Nick Ahmed/David Peralta spikes and say things went about as well as humanly possible and they still choked away a playoff spot to a league you say isn't that scary. There is no immediate help on the way, no budget room, and a near certainty that htey lose either Grienke or Corbin. Not to mention Pollack or other notable parts. I agree, talk radio and fans can often be too black and white, but their basis for doing so in this case seems to have some sound footing. We're all speculating, so I could absolutely turn out to be wrong and Grienke is unavailable, but it's the first phone I'd pick up and try.
  20. That is not what is being hinted at in Arizona. They have a barren farm, a loaded division, and a number of guys with pretty decent trade value right now. It's absolutely being discussed. Whether it happens or not is anyone's guess. If they decide not to rebuild and hope to resign guys, it likely frees up Grienke as a salary dump. If they rebuild, he gets moved that way too. I'm guessing he gets dealt sometime this offseason as a way to retain Corbin/Goldschmidt/Pollack.
  21. I would venture to guess this could be said of virtually every post postulating about offseason moves for their favorite baseball team. Sorta misses the point. I can tell you that AZ sports radio has been talking about the need to deal Grienke for about two years now. The biggest mark against my thinking is probably that the D-backs may not be retaining any of their key players and about to embark on a serious rebuild. In that case, Grienke is still available, but perhaps for different reasons and with more willingness by the club to retain salary to improve return.
  22. Arizona may give up Grienke as a partial dump. They simply can't afford Corbin/Pollack/Goldschmidt and to keep him. You'll have to give up something, but if the Twins agree to take his whole contract the price might be pretty reasonable. (I think it may even be cheap)
  23. Sorry, i was referring to Escobar. Grienke has 3 years and about 100M left.
