So your telling me the only reason he had chronic ankle issues, that required 2 different surgeries, was because he was playing shortstop and now that he's at 2nd base, those surgically repaired ankles will never be susceptible to injuries ever again. We need Dr Gast on the Twins training staff ASAP

Trading Jose Berrios was absolutely the right call from the Twins front office. I understand losing Berrios was tough for a lot of fans. But from a business standpoint, if you know an extension isn't going to happen with player X, why let that asset's value depreciate when you have an opportunity to capitalize on peak value? He wasn't taking the sweetheart extension you got with Polanco, Kepler, etc .. Move on and do what's best for both parties. Martin and SWR is a fantastic return and I probably would've even done it if I could have signed Berrios to the extension that he got. You still can absolutely sign a top pitcher from this class, you've got the cash .. Orrrrr, my preference, is you wait for the plethora of starting pitching prospects you have to develop in 2022, sign a guy like Carlos Rodon to a 1 yr / 20 mil deal, let him prove he's healthy, and wait till next year's class to lock in on someone you deem to be worth that big deal. (Degrom, Eovaldi, Clevinger, Musgrove, Sale, Syndergaard, Bassit, Taillon) .. This isn't that hard a process to grasp, they absolutely made the right move for the long term success of the organization.

Yeah long term he proobbbably moves to 3rd ... Hard to tell with a 20 year old kid who's got plus athleticism. Well in this scenario, hypothetically, if the Twins do end up moving Buxton, to say the Miami Marlins, Kahlil Watson is a shortstop .... Hypothetically.

With signs pointing toward a likely Byron Buxton trade, it's safe to say that realistically competing in 2022 is not happening. That said, shopping around Jorge Polanco isn't that far fetched if the front office has their focus on 2023 and beyond. I posed this trade a few weeks ago on MLB Trade Rumors chat with Anthony Franco. For those not aware, Noelvi Marte, currently a shortstop, is a consensus top 15 prospect in all of baseball. Plenty of reports out there if you wanna read up on him. Matt Brash is a starter that broke out this year and sky rocketed up "Top 100" lists at the end of the season. While he is a bit lesser known compared to a George Kirby or Emerson Hancock, the spin rates are ridiculous and fits the pitching profile that Falvey has targeted. Nice article here to get some more info on him. Personally, I love this deal .. Regardless of a Buxton trade or not, this is definitely something to consider if you are in the Twins front office. Would love to hear your guys thoughts! (I've wrote about about Polanco in the past as well and you can check it out here)

I don’t mean to call you out directly but I want to ask this question. Why is it that whenever we talk about trading a top player, everyone thinks it’s a rebuild, which would insinuate 4-5 years of losing. Just because your acquiring a prospect, doesn’t mean that they can’t contribute in the near future (Joe Ryan, Austin Martin, etc.) Not every single prospect is 5 years away. You can still build a contending team in a relatively short timeline, just have to target the right players.

What the Hell Are the Twins Doing with Byron Buxton?
Tim replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think its fairly evident that this comes down to the front office based on the comments made today. With that said, you've traded away one young piece in Berrios and now are likely to trade the other in Buxton. You better be damn sure that you can identify the right talent in these trades to build a contender while also signing the right pieces in the meantime to entice fans to buy tickets or else your in some serious trouble. -
It sucks, we all want Buxton to be extended. But this isn't super surprising .. Based on Pohlad's comments, it sounds like this is more trepidation from the front office. With that said, if Buxton isn't the one they are looking to build around, they better have one of the top tier shortstops in mind if they want to sell tickets next year or they might have some serious issues.

If the team is leaning toward dealing Buxton, why would Jorge Polanco not be available? Fit's the timeline of the next core and you would get an absolute haul. Marcus Semien on a 5/120 deal or have the younger option in Jorge Polanco, who's on a 4/35 deal. Mariners, Blue Jays, Red Sox, Dodgers, Giants all come to mind

I would make a call on Dansby Swanson

The Marlins have a lot of pitching that has either recently graduated from prospect status or is dealing with injury. I wouldn't worry too much about rankings all too much

Eury Perez should be target #1 for the Twins in any and all deals with the Marlins

5/135 for Seager, might need to add 3 years and 100 million to that

The idiots who designed WAR ultimately run every front office in baseball. I think there might be something to it. This is .. nvm. The initial debate of whether Arraez was a good hitter or not has nothing to do with Polanco, Sano, or whoever's OPS, so these comparisons don't really do much here. Right?

There's a stat for this called WAR that is essentially used for this exact simulation. Arraez team wins

It's not. How do you think a team constructed solely on OPS would do ?? a lineup of 9 Joey Gallo's or 9 MIguel Sano's ... Not really a recipe for success. Now what if you were to do that same exercise, but throw in 3 or 4 hitters like Luis Arraez ?? That's a lineup capable of scoring a lot more runs. You cant use one stat to look at a hitter's makeup and skillset.

for the record, that's his entire career avg. Are his most recent numbers suggesting he's declining so much to the point that he isn't capable of that again? I am making the assumption you don't believe he is a "damn good hitter" because of his lack power, correct? can you explain to me why you don't believe he is?

Thank you dan .. I really have hard time understanding how his value is lost just because he doesn't hit for power. The man is an absolutely fantastic MLB hitter and there really isn't much debate for it.

I like the part where you completely ignored the .313. avg / .374 obp ... that was a nice touch.

I believe many on this site tend to overlook just how good Luis Arraez has been. Over 3 seasons, age 22-24, Arraez has a career .313 avg / .374 obp / .777 ops That's a really damn good major league hitter, that is still developing.

Austin Martin could very well end up at 2nd .. I will continue to say this exercise reaffirms my belief that now would be the time to sell high on Polanco for pitching. Arraez likely doesn't bring back what you'd aim. Deal from positions of strength, depth is there.
