  1. Yep. Pedro's on the 40 man and he was scheduled to start today. This is how it works. I'm not going to get too excited about this until Gibson isn't called up for the next start. At that point this place will already have temporarily crashed due to a firestorm of hate messages to Ryan.
  2. This isn't a situation where you give up on Parmelee. And sending him down isn't giving up on him. The situation is that the Twins have too many players that should be getting everyday AB's. Doumit and willingham are veterans that you aren't going to bench especially since that will affect any possible trade value that they have. Arcia is up and is one of the best hitters in the lineup. As long as he is with the Twins he should not be benched. That leaves Parmelee sitting on the bench a lot. The correct move (regardless of his 2 HR game) is to send him down for a month until a veteran is traded or injured.
  3. Parmelee has 203 PA's this year. He should get a lot of chances but this isn't a free pass to play regardless of results.
  4. He got 160 PA's in April and May. That is consistent playing time imo. He finally has been taken out of the lineup because he didn't hit that well.
  5. I think the MAJOR Buxton issue is nothing more than a temporary numbers game in the minors. Perhaps they want to see that Kepler can actually play the field before the promote him. Or perhaps they need to make a corresponding move in Ft Myers since they have 6 OF'ers on their roster including Wilkin Ramirez on a rehab assignment. I'm pretty sure the additional week or two that he spends in CR will not be detrimental to his development.
  6. Colabello with a HR and Worley with a CG gem.
  7. Steroids clearly play a role in lucky BAPIP's. Everything that he's doing this year is completely in line with his career norms. K%, BB%, isoP, HR's, and most everything else. The one big difference is BAPIP.
  8. The might not send Parmelee down but if they are planning to trade somebody it would make sense that Parmelee had more than 20 AB's in the previous month if he was going back into a starting role. I'm not giving up on Parmelee but I have always thought he was only a placeholder that tops out in the .275/.350/.425/.775 OPS area. That's a 10-15 HR corner OF'er that neither hurts nor helps your team. So far he hasn't shown that he's that guy though.
  9. If anyone had any doubt that Gibson should be called up it should be gone by now. I think for Gibson's development this last month in AAA has been beneficial long term even if he would have been a better MLB option than Pelfrey. He has had fairly long sustained run of great starts and I would be very surprised if he isn't a very different pitcher than he was in April. Perhaps he could have worked through this at the MLB level or perhaps he could be a complete mess if hitters were treating him like Liam Hendriks.
  10. But Parmelee doesn't have any significant value. It's like a couple of years ago when Casilla and Duensing (thereby named the Duensing rule) were included in every trade proposal because some thought that would get a better prospect in return. It won't. You can't attach 2-3 guys that have negligible value to trade and expect it to sway a team at all. I'm not sure Parmelee's value is much better than those guys that are DFA'd because they are out of options but need to be sent down. Right now we might as well send Parmelee down since he's barely playing. I haven't completely given up on Parmelee but he won't turn things sitting on the bench everyday.
  11. Sano with another HR.
  12. I don't the Twins took Pressly with any illusions of making him a starter. I think they took him because his stuff plays up in the bullpen. Another thing to consider is that he hasn't actually been that great. He's been lucky. .261 BAPIP with a 0% HR/FB rate. I would like to see Pressly improve his K rate a little since 7 K/9 is so-so for a RP'er. Or at least reduce his BB's a little to improve the K:BB ratio a little. 2:1 is not great. Still he's a great find in the Rule V since few of these guys even make it out of spring training much less look like they could be part of a bullpen for several years.
  13. This is one of those things that you work through in a rebuilding season and one of the reasons that don't just spend money on over the hill FA's for the sake of spending money. Perhaps that route would be better in the short term but giving guys like Dozier, Plouffe, Florimon, Escobar, Parmelee and others an extended look should yield a couple productive players. That wouldn't have been possible if guys like Drew and Youkilis had been brought in like some suggested. I will disagree that a young player should be platooned if he has issues with some pitchers. You do this if you are a competitive team and you need to optimize your lineup but young players should be playing everyday. Otherwise leave them in AAA.
  14. Unless the Twins are offering a contract that is 80% of his current contract (yearly value) they can't negotiate an extension for him. They can allow him to become a FA in November and then offer whatever they want.
  15. Mauer and Morneau's contract are not relevant when determining Plouffe's arbitration values. Plouffe's inconsistent numbers that are merely okay will determine how much Plouffe gets in arb. If Plouffe has a strong finish to the season ending up with 25 HR's and a .775 OPS then he's still unlikely to get more than 3-4M in his first year of arbitration. Those that think Plouffe should be in a utility role are in the minority. Plouffe is showing enough with the bat that he could slide into an OF spot once Willingham is traded and replace that RH power in the lineup. Aside from Sano Plouffe is really the only other source of RH power that is coming until Buxton is up.
  16. So he's a clutch pitcher?
  17. I find several things funny in this thread. First) I find it funny that Plouffe should have been shopped during his one month binge last year. What team is going to give up a good prospect for someone that has an unimpressive MiLB record and had been awful in the majors until a massive one month binge? Second) I still don't know what team is going to give up something significant for Plouffe since he has been so inconsistent offensively and defensively. Third) Sano is coming but trading Plouffe now puts a guy like Escobar/Carroll there for the season. Unless of course you want to try the Deibinson experiment at 3B based on a hot month in the minors. There is absolutely no reason to trade Plouffe now. Let him play at 3B for a year or so until Sano is called up and then if necessary move him to the OF or even 1B. I think there is still a chance that Plouffe can fill the Willingham role in the lineup. He won't walk as much but having a .250 RH hitter with 25+ HR is an area the Twins are weak at.
  18. I'm okay with May staying in AA for most of the year. It's encouraging to see progress but I'm not even sure it's progress at this point. He's typically walked 4+ batters/9 so all I see is a nice 3 start stretch.
  19. Vargas 2/2, 2BB's and a HR May 7.2IP, 0ER, 9K and 1BB
  20. I really wouldn't expect the Twins to pay any of the tax unless Shore's agent approached them with a proposal (like 600-700K) which at this point would way below his reported demands. I am hoping that they can grab 1-2 guys in the 100-200K range.
  21. Cingrani wouldn't happen but this guy could Robert Stephenson » Statistics » Pitching | FanGraphs Baseball That's if the Reds were interested in adding a top setup man. It would be interesting having a lefty/lefty closer/setup combo. I consider this unlikely still but it's the kind of deal that you shoot for with Perkins. btw - Perkins definitely does not make too much money to be a setup man.
  22. I thought I was having a nice season but I can't believe my 2011 season in hindsight. This year I'm 32-12 but that season I was 65-13. Twice as many wins and the same number of losses. Damn that V Mac guy.
  23. I saw Archer pitch a few innings last week. He has some crazy movement on his pitches and it was hard for the hitters to square up and hit him. Of course he also didn't really have an idea where the pitches were going. This is a pretty awful deal though unless Stras rips up his arm again.
  24. Right now the future of this team depends on developing or trading for starters. I hope they sign a legitimately good starter in FA in the next year or two but I'm not going to hold my breath and I hope they stay away from the Buehrle/Wilson/Jackson tier of pitchers. Just good enough to be really expensive but not good enough to actually be good. If it means that we need to trade a guy like Perkins to land another really good SP'ing prospect then I'm okay with trading Perkins. If the Twins trade Perkins for the sake of trading him then I will be the first critic.
  25. I know that Stewart will sign but I would like it to be official. Tbh that's all that I care about right now in this draft. Eades, Gonsalves and Naveretto could be that diamond in the rough that the Twins have done well snagging in the later rds but this draft is all about Stewart.
