  1. Meyer struggled with 5IP, 5K, 4BB - 92 pitches and 57 strikes
  2. So who doesn't concern you? I find it ironic that you would avoid a starter early in the draft because of risk but support the choice of a HS catcher.
  3. My hope is that the Twins are trying to keep Stewart's price down by claiming they have other options. My concern with Stewart isn't that the Twins won't be able to sign him underslot but rather that he's going to try to max out the +5% of the Twins draft pool. I don't care about the money but this might cause the Twins to pick a lesser player.
  4. I think Stewart is starting to emerge as the #4 in this draft especially for a team that needs pitching as badly as the Twins. Imo the only choices that make sense right now are Stewart and Shipley. Frazier and Meadows continue to slip a little and they are OF'ers. Moran is below the two pitchers. McGuire is only a choice if you are trying to go underslot. And there was a considerable faction on here that were ahead of the Manaea slide.
  5. Benson still isn't a 5 tool player. He has speed, arm, defense and some power but he doesn't have the hit for avg tool. There is absolutely no doubt about it after 2500 AB's with a .250 avg. He wasn't going to contribute this year so I can't understand the angst in this thread. Deduno might actually contribute so I don't see how he's in this discussion.
  6. The only way that your scenario plays out is if the Twins aren't really interested in Stewart and are more interested in going underslot. That's certainly possible but it's all dependent on the Twins not liking Stewart enough to sign him at his expected asking price (slot or at least within the +5%).
  7. You're suggesting that the Red Sox would punt 1-2 other very valuable picks to take Stewart over a guy like Frazier. And the other necessary part of the equation is that the Twins would only take Stewart if he goes underslot. They might not take Stewart but if they want him there is very little chance that the Red Sox can offer him more.
  8. College bats have changed significantly in the last couple of years and yet Bryant has a .876 SLG% (a .538 isoP) and he's hitting more than a HR every other game. If you're skeptical of his bat then I'm not sure a college hitter should ever be taken in the top 5. I think Bryant is making a legitimate argument to be the BPA in the whole draft.
  9. I'm sorry but I don't listen to podcasts. the only way that the Red Sox can even come up with 4M is by basically punting their 2nd rd choice (signing significantly underslot) or by going >5% over their draft budget and losing the 1st (and possibly 2nd) rd pick next year. This is what needs to happen just for them to get to an underslot number by the Twins. If the Twins want Stewart they will be in a significantly better position than the Red Sox to make it happen.
  10. I'm not even sure that Hermann will play and that's why he was the guy called up imo.
  11. I'm pretty sure that Jose Fernandez was the deciding factor. I think he overvalued him but this is a league where dominant pitching rules and his rotation could be borderline ridiculous but I will take a currently elite player anyday. lol - Travis Wood for matt Barnes - my wheeling and dealing has yielded some nice results this year
  12. It creates some speculation but with the current draft penalties the Red Sox would either have to punt this year's draft and/or next year's draft to offer more money than the Twins can. If the Twins want a player at #4 they will be able to offer more money if they want him.
  13. Imo Morales is the type of prospect that moves up when Buxton and/or Walker are promoted. He is only 24 and he's having a nice season but this is his 4th season at Ft Myers. Maybe he has some upside but I see a Wilkin Ramirez type career in his future.
  14. That's how it works. Pitchers delay this kind of surgery until the offseason all of the time and it's not uncommon that pitchers complain about scar tissue the next year. They don't really know it's an issue until they are going at full intensity and pitching on a normal schedule. Sometimes they need a 2nd surgery. I'm still not sure why this is such a surprise to you.
  15. Even if there isn't an injury it still takes time to loosen up an area that recently had surgery.
  16. I am speculating on that because it's one of those things that can happen after you have surgery. you are acting like you haven't heard of this before.
  17. Your analysis in this thread is very poor imo. It's not that uncommon for pitchers to need a 2nd surgery to remove bone chips or scar tissue. Sometimes this even becomes TJ (Baker IIRC). Yes, it's not that common that teams trade young, good pitchers but most teams don't have a rotation with Halladay, Lee, Hamels and other cheap, decent backend options. His numbers in the NL were fluky but there is no way that he is this bad. Something else is happening and it would not surprise me if something isn't right with elbow. Not every pitcher comes back 100% right away even though it's a relatively minor surgery.
  18. As of now I will give Worley a mulligan for a couple of months. He had minor elbow surgery this winter and stuff like this is always a risk. Hopefully this doesn't turn into a lost season for him and another surgery (minor or major) but I think he will be a solid starter again.
  19. My Matt Barnes trade looks especially brilliant as Billy Buck goes into full blown rebuild mode.
  20. I wouldn't have DFA'd Benson but I also wouldn't make the big fuss that has been made in this thread. Superficially his numbers were really good for a couple of years but in the end his upside was Drew Stubbs. The downside was the mess that has been in Rochester the last two years. At some point I think the Twins temporarily need to address the CF issue. Joe Benson was not going to be an answer this year.
  21. Mauer's defense has fallen off but I think it's a little unfair to place any blame on him as the reason for how bad the pitching staff has been. The pitching staff is bad because they don't have a lot of talent and the Twins must be one of the worst defensive teams in baseball.
  22. He might rank him higher but he's still in Hendriks territory. He's shown that he's better than guys like Bromberg, Devries, Manship, Swarzak when they were in A ball (all were successful) but none of these guys even made it as a back end starter.
  23. I strongly believe in BPA but I'm not sure any of the hitters (Bryant excluded) are better picks than either Stewart or Shipley. And in the end it's close enough that NEED trumps any argument that Frazier, Meadows or Moran are the BPA.
  24. Are you looking at monthly WAR, yearly WAR or multi-year WAR?
  25. It's time.
