  1. I think buxton is the next big thing also but he doesn't have Justin Upton power. he isn't going to fill out like Justin Upton.
  2. I don't understand this desire to trade every veteran on the team. they should be looking at trading guys that can bring back 1-2 top 100 prospects but that list is pretty short. Like limited to Perkins and Willingham. Maybe burton could bring back a top 200 prospect but it would take a desperate team to give up more than that. Morneau isn't going anywhere unless this hot streak continues. He's a fan favorite and you don't trade these kind of guys w/o bringing back some solid prospects. I actually think the Twins are leaning towards working out some kind of deal in the offseason. Carroll is basically a salary dump. The prospect will be less significant than Pedro Hernandez. Doumit could play himself into marginal trade value but he's not good enough defensively to catch for a playoff team and he's not enough of a hitter to DH. basically he's a versatile bench option on a good team. I don't know how anyone can think that Parmelee has any trade value. The only type of player that you are picking up is an older no upside player like Doumit.
  3. yes, there is a reason that Rizzo should be interested but he gave up a lot for that financial security. It is only 1 yr of FA plus 2 options since he was 4 days short of the additional year of FA. My mistake.
  4. And all that is shown is some fancy sketches. Anything can look good at this point.
  5. It's possible that he plays worse than his rookie year but unlikely unless there is an injury. He was a top prospect and his MLB stats aren't supported by luck. Giving up 4 FA years is a lot of financial leverage. With inflation it's possible that each of those years is worth close to 20M if he is simply above average and hitting the FA market around age 27.
  6. Is anyone anywhere happy about the complete lack of k's? I don't understand how this thread made it to 4 pages this fast when everyone agrees.
  7. The reason that it will be a bad deal is that they bought out 2 yrs of FA and gave the cubs options for 2 additional years. So he gave up 4 FA yrs (if he's good). Yet it is hard to be critical of someone that would have been earning the MLB min for a couple of years and now is guaranteed 41M. I would consider doing this with Arcia. I'm convinced that he is going to be a borderline all star. I'm less convinced of Hicks and there is no reason to consider this with Diamond/Worley/Plouffe/Parmelee/dozier or any other young player that is up with the Twins.
  8. The link actually takes you to the 13th instead of the 14th. Brett Lee had a great game for CR with 10K and 1BB in 7IP. Antoan Richardson has continued hitting in AAA. And Colabello had a pair of hits.
  9. That's actually another possible reason that he was a little off today.
  10. They might not link the Twins to any of those players but the Twins have a significantly larger bonus pool to spend than teams like the Yankees, Rangers and A's. At the end of the day it's the money that does the talking regardless of who has been linked to player X.
  11. He will be a big guy but I'm not sure 1B is in his future. It's not difficult to move from the IF to the OF but usually guys that end up in the IF (even 1B) moved from other IF positions. Fielding grounders isn't something that you just pick up if you haven't been regularly doing this for several years.
  12. The difference between Worley and Hendriks is that Hendriks has been shelled repeatedly in the majors while Worley has had success. The other thing to remember is that worley did have bone spurs removed in September. Worley did have one big warning flag that his K rate would regress. His swstr% is/was really low for a pitcher that has an above average K rate but he still gets some time to turn it around.
  13. Worley has been pretty bad so far but it's 8 starts. He won't be a great pitcher but he has a decent track record and he could turn it around. This Plouffe discussion is silly. Plouffe is not great but if Plouffe isn't at 3B then look out below because it's a big drop in talent in this org until Sano is up.
  14. Usually you don't see a big increase although it's different for everyone. yes, there are some that fill out and add strength/velocity but for the most part there doesn't seem to be a big increase. Pitchers work on adding movement. For example the Twins turn everyone into a sinkerballer. In addition the more demanding schedule cancels out any added strength.
  15. His hot stretch earns him another month or so. If anyone remembers these hot/cold stretches were common in the minors also.
  16. He's my pick also but you still won't acknowledge a simple part of the equation. If he returned to college he could become anything from a 1st overall pick to a 10th rd pick in those 3 yrs. There's a good chance that Stewart never sees the majors. Gray and Appel have really high floors and are nearly locks to be MLB starters at this point. That's why they are the #1a and #1b best players in this draft. Imo the only reason that Stewart is any better than Meadows/Frazier is that he's a pitcher and the Twins really need pitching.
  17. I'm okay with not trading Morneau. As of right now he's not bringing back anything in prospects. In addition the only business case for bringing back Morneau is pretty much fans like you. His performance doesn't really merit it although he could finish the season stronger than he currently is.
  18. I honestly don't understand your recollection of Morneau. Morneau was a great power hitter with 3 seasons of 30+ HR's. This isn't an advanced stats thing. He has done very little since coming back from his concussion 2.5 yrs ago. The only business case for keeping Morneau is that fans like him and he's not a bad player. I like the idea of bringing Morneau back but I think people need to be realistic as to the level of player that Morneau currently is.
  19. it looks cool but I will wait until it is further along in the design process to make any judgments. The glass could be awesome or something that doesn't work out. I'm also a little concerned about the multi-purpose design constraints.
  20. Despite the Twins draft history right now I think even Stewart is at the top of their draft board. I really don't see a case that he isn't at the very least tied for the 4th BPA in this draft and he's a starter.
  21. yeah, but 13+M for an average to below average player still seems silly. I would like Morneau back but I'm not sure it will happen. He needs to start hitting halfway decently to be considered a starter next season. He's similar to Doumit tbh at this point and he's signing <5M deals.
  22. If you have a problem with WAR then perhaps you shouldn't use it. If you want to make a case against it then don't use it in a way that it would be highly flawed. It's also not that hard pick apart WAR even if it has been used correctly. It's not a perfect stat and I don't think anyone has declared it as such.
  23. This is true but Morneau actually has to hit the FA market for that to happen. And likewise the Twins can't offer him an extension for a significant paycut either.
  24. So you are saying that your recollection is perfect after 25 yrs? I wouldn't be able to provide accurate game accounts of any of my varsity sports from 15 yrs ago and there are far fewer games than a baseball player plays in a year. Especially when you combine that with a 10+ yr career.
  25. This is Morneau's 3rd season since he was injured. Unless he gets hot I think it's safe to say that really good Morneau isn't coming back. He's now the Lyle Overbay version of Justin Morneau.
