  1. This thread confuses me. Morneau has a .720 OPS with a .111 isoP. Those are middle infielder offensive stats and not even average 1Bman stats. He definitely isn't the hitter that Brodin4Calder is trying to project. I think it might be in the Twins best interests to reach a relatively cheap deal (5M) and bring him back for a year or two. Unlike Liriano he's a fan favorite and a great guy to have on the team. Parmelee has also done nothing so far to show that he has a future as an MLB starter although I'm optimistic about him.
  2. Nagging injuries, reports that his velocity has dipped below 90 (from mid 90's) and inconsistent secondary pitches are why people are down on Manaea.
  3. That's not true in all cases. there are a lot of guys that are effectively wild in the minors that get overwhelmed hitters to chase. The K numbers look great and the BB numbers are tolerable until they reach the majors and hitters aren't overwhelmed by the heat.
  4. I love it when people completely misuse a stat to confirm their bias against it.
  5. It's always nice to have the option of an additional year especially if it's a guy that is potentially an ace.
  6. I think using either of them out of the pen at the end of the year makes more sense if the Twins were good and didn't have room in their rotation. Service time also becomes a factor so you only do it if you almost sure that Meyer will be in the rotation at the beginning of the year. May is further down my list and is the one that I think ends up in the pen.
  7. I'm not a Manaea fan right now. He's a college pitcher with the risk/upside of a HS'er. Unless he shows that he is healthy and throwing in the low/mid 90's then he isn't even a consideration at #4 imo.
  8. The reason to not take Stewart isn't if he might not make the majors until 2017. The reason not to take Stewart is that he might not make it out of AA. He has some great upside but he also has significant downside.
  9. I have no idea what you are doing here. Absolutely no clue. Where in the world did #59 come from? #4 and #43 if you don't go underslot vs #10 (but #4b on the Twins board) and #15 talent that dropped due to signability If the Twins have a 4b player that they consider equivalent to the BPA but cheaper then this can work. The tier after Bryant doesn't really have one guy that is leading it. I'm just hoping that they take Stewart but he isn't a slam dunk and the Twins scouts could have big concerns about him that internet scouts don't.
  10. The problem is that the underslot pick won't usually take the full underslot amount for 5 picks lower. You are probably looking at saving half of that amount because that player might not drop all the way to #10. I said it earlier but if they have two guys basically tied on their draft board and one is projected to go closer to #10 then I can understand going underslot to save about 1M to spend later in the draft. An extra 1M brings the value of the #42 pick up to about the same as the #15 so they would have a chance of getting a pretty good talent if one fell because of signability.
  11. Buxton's on base streak ends. He did find a way to get to 1B because a CS shows up in the box score. He's clearly not ready for a promotion. Polanco 2/4 BB now hitting .347 and Walker 3/5 now hitting .305
  12. I don't think you are understanding me. Justin Upton has absolutely ridiculous power. Like top 5 raw power in the majors and it was there his rookie year. I saw him hit a line drive off of a 20 ft high batter's eye (in play) in spring training and he almost got thrown out at 2nd base because it came back to the CF'er so fast. I don't care what stats you look up from the minors but Buxton does not compare to Justin's raw power and never will. There is also no way that Justin weighs 205 lbs currently. He should have BJ's power potential and body type but there is absolutely no way that he compares to Justin Upton from a power standpoint.
  13. Are you suggesting that Cabrera hits 3 HR's often to win games? Or do they use ghost runners in Detroit?
  14. Could we have an update on the analysis that showed he would have a K rate 6ish and a BB rate of 3ish based on the NL to AL move? He has been pretty awesome so far but I was against signing him last year. He seemed more like a guy that you hoped be average over the contract. I was also really against signing Edwin Jackson since you just hope that he's average.
  15. The reason to go underslot is if the underslot pick was really close to the BPA but was expected to be drafted 5-10 slots lower. If that allows you to upgrade the 2nd rd pick to a mid 1st rd talent then it's a win. If you are going underslot to take a lesser talent then it's a terrible idea.
  16. Buxton does not have the best features of both Upton brother. Justin has 70-80 power and he had it as a rookie. I agree though that Buxton is a more complete player than BJ.
  17. He found a statistic that says the Central is the best division in the AL. I think that would raise an eyebrow with most impartial fans.
  18. He's actually pretty close to those numbers unless he's injured. Individual hitters can't win games by themselves.
  19. HS catchers are incredibly risky. I have reservations about taking a HS catcher unless that player is a stud like Mauer was.
  20. This is Parmelee's season to show that he is a long term option for the Twins. He needs MLB AB's to find this out. Hicks needs a reboot badly even he's improved.
  21. Arcia is just a pure hitter. He has more raw skill than Kubel or Cuddyer but I think he will put up some of the same frustrating AB's that those two did by helping out pitchers. I'm curious if there is anyone anywhere that thinks he is still an option in CF because he played there in rk ball?
  22. Sometimes if you look at enough statistics you will find one that tells the story you want to.
  23. I think I would like to see them target Shipley underslot. McGuire doesn't really do it for me. That just seems like a Tony Sanchez (although a college C) pick.
  24. Sano back with a pair of hits while Rosario sits out another day. NB and CR postponed.
  25. I'm not sure it's anything the Twins are doing with hendriks. The knock on him was always that he had mediocre stuff. Now that he has been rocked for awhile he doubts that mediocre stuff. he's still young though.
