  1. Imo there is only one pitcher that is deserving at the 4 spot (Stewart). If the Twins see something that concerns them then I would be alright with them passing. That brings Moran, Meadows and Frazier into play. In the second round I am perfectly fine with value picks if one presents itself. The other part of the equation that gets overlooked is that top 25 prospects are hot commodities in the trade market. In 2-3 yrs the Twins could have a team where it makes sense to trade a top prospect (like an extra OF'er) for a veteran near elite starter. Stock your system with high end talent and things will work out.
  2. I think it's pretty clear that the Twins shouldn't have even tried building around M+M because the playoff results sucked.
  3. Just because he will probably end up in a corner doesn't mean that he's an all or nothing slugger. I think Frazier is fairly athletic and could be part of a good OF defense.
  4. Have you missed the reports of nagging injuries, inconsistent secondary pitches (especially the change) and a drop in velocity? Shipley might be a better pick at this point but there are a lot of talented players in the next tier. I would really like it if the Twins drafted an arm that ended above average but the pickings are slim. My #1 priority is that the Twins end up with an above average player with this pick regardless if it is a hitter or pitcher.
  5. My other fear is that BA (I think) put Bryant in the Almora tier of hitters in the last draft. The Twins might have a top pick but they got it in terrible draft.
  6. I agree. I think the only chance for the Twins to get one of the top 3 is if the Astros repeat last year taking Meadows/Frazier to reallocate 2M for later in the draft.
  7. They are nursing minor injuries and will be out for a game or two. Unless it's the same medical staff as the big league club. Possible TJ surgery then.
  8. I would rather have a stud that I didn't need than an average player that I did. Average players can be found in trades, FA and later in the draft. Elite players are impossible to find. This draft is shaping up as a tier of 2 players at the top and a 2nd tier is only one player deep (Bryant). If he's there then you take him regardless of need. After that it's a toss up. 6-7 guys make a good case at #4 but nobody has really separated themselves from that tier.
  9. I just don't get why anybody would rebuild a top 5 (probably the top team). Our teams have been hanging on with non-sexy productive old guys. This league is all about pitching studs but depth seems to be overlooked. Being 7-8 deep at SP and getting extra 2 start weeks is a big equalizer. In addition I like having a 4-5 bench hitters to take advantage of off days or platoon splits helps out.
  10. The Astros won't save significant bonus money if they take Gray. If they want to repeat last year's draft success then they need aim for a guy that is projected in the lower half of the top ten instead of one that is a lock for the top 3 picks. One interesting twist would have the Astros taking Meadows/Frazier #1, the Cubs taking Gray at #2 because they prefer him and then Colorado deciding if they want to deal with Appel or take Bryant. I think Boras represents half of the top 10 draft prospects so it will be hard/foolish for any team to avoid him but Appel is going to be a tough sign even at the Twins pick since Boras can make a legitimate case that he is the best player in the draft. I think Appel would be foolish to pass up slot+5% of the draft pool but Boras does his own thing.
  11. I would be very happy if the Astros took an underslot pick at 1-1. They could Meadows/Frazier/catcher and save 2M. Even if Appel/Gray went in the next two picks I would love to have Bryant on the Twins. That leaves them short on pitching still but a Buxton/Rosario/Sano/Arcia/Bryant lineup at the end of Mauer's career is something to get excited about.
  12. I disagree with this. Stanton is a damn stud that should be unobtainable in a dynasty. He got 2 great prospects but great prospects become avg players all the time. I don't know why but I get bothered when playoff teams do a significant rebuild. it's good for me but it throws the player values out of whack. Veterans suddenly become worthless because everybody is a seller.
  13. I think the new signing pools guarantee that teams will spend quite a bit of money internationally. There is only so much money to go around and somebody has to sign the top int'l prospects. Perhaps Ryan trades some of it but I think it will the Twins will be top ten in money spent at the end of the day.
  14. Take it back. The only memory that us youngsters have of Allison is the sliding catch in the '65 series that has been replayed 1M times. He must have been a great fielder. I think it's pretty obvious that this is a great core when the only remotely comparable prospect classes were 25 yrs and 50+ yrs ago. And even then people are listing guys that debuted half a decade (or more) apart.
  15. I would say that he's as good as Kevin Slowey currently.

    Babip

bapip in play is a redundant usage.
  17. There really isn't any doubt in my mind that he sticks at 2nd I was just confused by the question of where he ends up. His bat only plays in the MI. I am a little disappointed by his defense though. Instead of being a slick fielder I'm getting hints that he's alright at 2B. More will be known later this year when scouting reports come out. I think he's DH'ing so much because the Twins have 3 MI's in CR. I think this works itself out in the next couple of months.
  18. If Polanco doesn't stick in the MI then he doesn't have a place in the majors.
  19. I will flat out disagree. The Twins don't have a good farm system because they have been bad for several years. They have had one top 20 pick (buxton) since Hicks (5ish yrs ago). The talent in the Twins system was acquired through other means.
  20. Kubel is actually worth the money AZ is paying him but the Twins made the right move. I think a summary of the payroll cutting is that bad teams with older players let those older FA's go and get younger/cheaper for the next run. It's just the way it happens. They could have spent a little more in FA this year but overall they are setting up nicely for 2015 and they should be better next year.
  21. There's nothing wrong with Clete as an extra OF'er that rarely plays. He's the kind of player that you want in that role.
  22. Did that go out in RC? That should have been a lazy fly ball. It's crazy that is a HR swing. It looks like there was some wind but that's still crazy.
  23. There are already a gazillion threads about the draft in the minors forum that talk about all of this.
  24. Duffey with 7IP, 7H, 2ER, 5K, 1BB On the season he has 26K's and just 4 BB's (34.2IP). The only discouraging thing is that 7 K/9 guys in low A usually become <6K/9 guys as they move up. Colabello 3/4 with a HR. There aren't many better stories this year than Colabello unless your name is Gattis. hendriks pitched a good game - 6IP 5K 0 BB
  25. I actually don't think the penalties are too severe. They need to be severe otherwise Boras would control the draft like you say. Now he's limited to holding teams hostage for an extra 5% max. that wouldn't alter my draft strategy.
