  1. Just because a team is taking a long view doesn't mean that they will take lesser talent. Kepler is a borderline top 100 guy with good upside so he is a start. Why on earth would the Marlins trade Fernandez before he even finishes his first season? Expensive arb years are 3 years away.
  2. Norris will become available at some point but he will be a FA in 2.5 yrs I think. I could see Norris costing a Berrios/Rosario level prospect. Definitely someone in the 50-100 range. Fernandez will require the moon to trade for. At least Sano if you are not familiar with the moon.
  3. Yes. SS is a position of dreadfully awful players and he was 5th and 6th in WAR in 2011/2012. Even if you don't like WAR it would be very difficult to name 10 SS's that are actually better than Andrus. Nevermind that he's 24 yrs old.
  4. I would gladly take Andrus and his contract. He's a young, plus defender that hits .280/.340/.350 most seasons. I will take a decade of that even though he will likely opt out in 2018.
  5. If you are pretty certain that Rosario can be an average MLB'er at 2nd then it is much easier to try Dozier at SS again than it is to find a good SS (draft, FA or trade).
  6. What exactly has Perkins done to show he can continue to pitch effective? He has pitched 2.5 seasons out of the bullpen. That's not a long track record. He also missed half of the 2009 season with a shoulder injury. If a team is putting a Crick, Barnes, Webster or Castellanos level prospect out there for Perkins the Twins should jump at the trade. I don't care what position the prospect plays as long as he's top 50 (or better) talent with some upside. Anyone that is critical of Castellanos needs to consider that he was a 20 yr old in AA. He's now a 21 yr old in AAA (not the PCL) putting up a .800 OPS with excellent K:BB numbers and solid power numbers.
  7. Fein has minimal trade value. Best case you trade him for a guy whose reasonable upside is what Fein is doing now. Perkins is the guy at peak value. And that's about the only guy on the team that is at peak value.
  8. Deduno is worth very little. if you want to get value then it starts and almost ends with Perkins and possibly Plouffe. Everyone else is worth minor league scraps.
  9. If you look at those teams they typically have one thing in common. Most of them had a couple of young players that were becoming stars. Verlander, Glavine, Davis, Longoria. They also had several other young players (and a few veterans) in place during the 90 loss season. if the 2014 Twins lose 90 games then it's possible to go from 90 losses to 90 wins. Next year the Twins just don't have the players in place (especially pitching) to make that big of a turnaround this year (imo). In 2015 that could be possible since potential stars (buxton and Sano) should be up full time and several other young players should be up and established as well.
  10. fixed that for you Why on earth would a team that has an awful rotation trade someone for a C level prospect? The Twins have a lot of rk ball prospects. They need some stability in the rest of the rotation.
  11. So basically the same as the Twins?
  12. I think people need to realize that TJ is a bump in the road and not a death sentence.
  13. That's the one loophole that I see. If you are going over then you might as well go WAY OVER and sign everyone. As long as you don't mind the 100% tax. It's too bad if the Twins lose out on a good prospect because of it though.
  14. Roenicke has pitched well in the same way that Burnett pitched well last season. And Burnett didn't last long this season despite of that. I wouldn't be shocked if he wasn't around in August.
  15. I think some will be disgusted by what Hughes gets this winter. And then there will be the other camp that says to sign simply because they won't spend the money elsewhere. I actually like Hughes a fair amount but his age and former prospect hype will cause someone to go crazy in FA. I think he will ge 5/60. Yep...
  16. My concern about Sano remains unchanged. He dominated the FSL but the K's were still there. He could be awesome or he could merely be a useful MLB'er. The important part is that he could be awesome. Same goes for Buxton but his floor is a little higher because of defense and the lack of a major red flag.
  17. I see a lot of warnings issued on here that prospects are not sure things. I think the same is true of injury prone 32 yr old players that haven't been above average for 3 yrs.
  18. You didn't really get the sarcasm in that post. Parmelee doesn't have to hit like the Morneau of old either. The Morneau of old is gone forever. It's quite possible that Parmelee can match Morneau's recent/future performance.
  19. Let me help you with this. Justin Morneau is never going to be as good as Justin Morneau was. I'd bet a lot of money on that. Useful player? Sure. The kind of hitter you sign for 10+M/yr? No chance, IMO. I think you should be holding Morneau to the same standard as you hold the other hitters. I like Morneau a lot. There's also a chance that he could rebound but how many years do you wait?
  20. So far the only arguments for extending him at 2/20 (or give him a qualifying offer) are because his name is Justin Morneau and the Twins won't spend the saved money elsewhere. I think this is a poor way to run a team. The Twins are stacked with guys that play OF/DH/1B with more coming up next year.
  21. It's still too early to tell if he's a keeper but there are only two potential MI keepers above low A (Dozier is one). Despite lengthy debates regarding potential neither Escobar/Florimon belong in a starting lineup long-term. Dozier will get his chances and it wouldn't surprise me if he moves back to short in a couple of years. I also wouldn't be surprised if part of his success this year isn't due to being able to relax a little in the field. Once he's established as a hitter it's possible that he could move back and be solid offensively and defensively.
  22. I would trade Perkins for Crick since he's pretty good and SP'ing is what will make or break the team in the future. Fein I would just hold onto unless there was a pretty good prospect offered. He has been really good since he came up last year. Adalberto Mejia is the type of intriguing prospect that i would be looking for. There's nothing wrong with Burton or the contract he signed. He's solid but not great and he never had much trade value.
  23. There are plenty in this thread that think 2/20 or the 1/14 qualifying offer is reasonable. I'm not against having Morneau on the team next year but it should be on the Twins terms since he hasn't been good for awhile. I also wouldn't mind seeing if Parmelee and/or Colabello are real MLB'ers. That's tough to do with Willingham (won't be traded for awhile now), Morneau and Doumit on the team. Not to mention that Buxton could be coming up next year. And Plouffe needs to play somewhere when Sano comes up. Vargas could even be an option at some point. There are just too many 1B/DH/OF bats to sign a guy simply because the Twins won't spend the money elsewhere.
  24. At this point I don't care if the Twins trade Morneau for marginal prospects or keep him and he becomes a FA. The last thing they should do is sign him to an above market value extension or extend a qualifying offer. Let him enter FA and bring him back if there isn't any significant interest. By the end of next year the Twins are going to need to find room for Buxton and Sano. Actually they are going to need to find room for Parmelee and Plouffe and the OF/1B/DH positions are already crowded. It would be nice to have Morneau back since fans like him but it isn't a priority since aging .750 OPS hitters aren't difficult to find. The Twins also have Doumit for 3.5M and he can actually play C (albeit badly). Strangely Doumit has few fans on here and he is significantly cheaper than the 2/20 or the qualifying offer that some are suggesting.
  25. A Barnes/Marrero trade is a reasonable asking price for Perkins. Preferring Marrero to Bogaerts is like preferring J.J. Hardy to Hanley Ramirez (in his prime). Bogaerts is so much better that you worry about his defense and where to play him after the fact. Bogaerts is pretty much untouchable unless a player like Giancarlo Stanton is getting traded though.
