  1. Mentioning Garlick in this context reminds me of something I’ve been wondering. Is Gordon just an outfielder at this point? He hasn’t had an infield start since April 11th even when Correa has needed a break somewhere. And if so, he’s already dropped well down the ranks of lefty outfielders when everyone is healthy. Even if he can play center sorta Castro is ahead there as well. Unfortunate for him to get hurt but it does open up several roster options.
  2. Some good options available at least. Probably have to look at what’s on the schedule until Kepler is ready.
  3. Why De Leon? He was a buzz saw until he wasn't, like most good relievers.
  4. They are an opportunity stat but we need need to evaluate based on what they do with that opportunity. Counting only is just dumb. Success percentage of some sort would be much more useful.
  5. I keep seeing him next to Correa or Taylor and thinking how big he is. Then I remember that Correa and Taylor are both 6'4 220.
  6. Quieter today than the midnight games.
  7. This series will set pitch clock baseball back at least 3 months.
  8. Correct, I'm not making that case in any way. I am saying that picking the bounce as the target allows them to throw harder as they have a margin. It could be faster that way but usually not. Main reason is that it is easier to catch on the first base side. They practice this. Correa just happens to like it and do it quite often.
  9. I came back on to say this but was distracted.
  10. https://tht.fangraphs.com/the-physics-and-timing-of-the-infield-bounce-throw/ Article just lays out part of the argument, it's not faster unless you have arm strength to cut it loose on that line. Main reason is to control the hop on the catch. It's a choice for other fielders. And you will often see them do it if they are off balance. Easier to throw hard and hit that target and give an easy hop rather than taking a chance on an air mail or in between hop.
  11. No words is probably the way to go. That grass is smoother than my carpet. Get used to it, you have 6 plus years to watch him do it on purpose. You will grow to appreciate it later.
  12. Sure, if you hit the chest. The bounce takes variables away.
  13. But it's much easier to catch if you control the bounce. When you have that strong of an arm it's the way to go.
  14. 2-3 now, RBI also. Directly inserted into the 3 hole. He’s coming in hot.
  15. In other news while we wait, Domingo German was just ejected after the umpires held hands with him for a few minutes.
  16. Solano at 2nd is interesting, I would have thought Polanco would play against the lefty. Castro and Gallo instead. Hope hes not sore after all that running last night.
  17. Me either but I don’t see a path back to third base or any other regular spot anytime soon without unmentionables. He and Castro can taxi squad back and forth to maximize matchups and playing time. Not ideal for sure but it gets the most talent available for the main roster.
  18. I think this should be the move when Lewis is ready. Miranda can fill the Solano role as a better version with options with some help from Farmer. Lewis full time at third unlocks Farmer to move around the infield as originally planned. It also makes Castro a bit extra but with the option he can be part of the last man rotation with Miranda. Gordon will soon become a road block as well. I would love to swap him with a Helman, who is RH, can play more spots, run and maybe even take a pitch and has options. I actually don't think Castro has been horrible. With his role as an emergency fill in everywhere and enjoy the bad matchups guy he's been OK. They rely on him for things other than stats. I'd put Helman in this spot along with Farmer, Miranda/Castro and Jeffers to round out my bench. I guess this sends Larnach back down when Kepler is healthy. Yuck, tough choices but good problems. Part of why replacing Gordon with someone with options is important.
  19. Specifically ready for the big club, not AAA.
  20. I am begging for some sort of strategy for the Manfred man innings! Get that run in. Every time.
  21. Actually brilliant managing by Rocco to save Taylor for just that situation when most would think he would come in earlier after Castro hit. It's the role I would love to see him in if Buxton could play center. He's a weapon as a situational runner. Nothing to do with Correa ankle. He's slow.
