  1. Ups and downs. 4 wins (thankfully) against the White Sox after a mess of a week before, mainly because the bats did not work (apparently) in Boston. BTW, "Quality Start" is probably the second worthless pitching stat after "Wins"
  2. Has to be noted: When Bill Smith signed Kennys Vargas as an Non-Drafted Free Agent in 2009, I suspect that nobody thought that he would make it that far. Congrats to Baby Papi, who is close to becoming a Papi for the second time in 2 years... (Congrats to Berrios, too, but he was a 1st round sup pick)
  3. Hasta la vista baby, pretty much.
  4. Ridiculous. Best RHRP in the organization (and I include the MLB arms in this assessment) He belongs at least at Fort Myers. Looks like the Twins saved about $200K total now. Maybe they will try to entice one of the late rounders...
  5. The Twins sure do not think so apparently, since they optioned him. Here is the thing: a. One cannot learn how to call a game from show and tell or via osmosis. Got to do it. b. Suzuki's metrics on framing and eyeball stats on throwing to CF instead of second base mirror Pinto's c. Pinto has had issues with catching Deduno's junk. Suzuki has been protected from that. Based on what I have seen, he would have the same issues. d. Suzuki is hitting like there is no tomorrow at a BABIP rate about 100 points higher than his career high normal. e. Pinto hit at a BABIP rate at about 100 points lower than signs point where he should be (and still had a better OPS and OPS+ than Mauer - just for comparison's sake; not a negative comment towards Mauer) I would not mind if the Twins re-sing Suzuki for a year or two as a backup, BUT if and only if they finally get rid of the manager, because he will play him as a starter...
  6. You should be glad you were not born when Ike's dad was pitching.
  7. He lost me when he tried to praise Ryan for picking up Correia. Not that different for his past stuff. He has always been walking the Twins' management line. Go back and read his Slowey (or anyone else whom the Twins were ostracizing) pieces
  8. I'd take Bill Larkin and Randy Bush over Tovar any time. They got the rings to prove it too
  9. I think that the Twins are shopping Guerrier, Burton and Deduno. If there are no bites, Thielbar might go down. When Plouffe and Nunez (and Hicks) go off the DL, there will be other options to go down or out and Florimon and Parmelee and Santana will head that list.
  10. What you see as "trending upwards" is a ridiculously low BABIP artificial mirage. His BABIP has been trending downwards: Last 7 days: .000 Last 14 days: .188 Last month: .333 that .188 is ridiculous and you know what that .000 is. If anyone might actually give the Twins anything for Burton and even let the Twins pay the rest of his salary, it will be a huge win.
  11. No. I do not see him flaming out. I also do not see the Twins going with him over Pelfrey or Nolasco, unless they can work out a trade for those guys.
  12. Meyer, Hughes, Nolasco, Gibson, Pelfrey
  13. Pino Evil
  14. If Morales and/or Willingham are in town by August September, where does Vargas fit? Do you pop an outfield glove on him and prey, like they did with Colabello and the shortstops?
  15. Well... I think doing some research in the ages before the draft, will convince you that the draft is likely the best thing to happen to equalize competition. Seriously.
  16. Grassy Knoll
  17. OK. Got to think context. CONTEXT. Who do they shift like this? Adam Dunn, David Ortiz. OK. Let's say they do bunt towards third and it is a good bunt. Then they got to RUN to first base. Are you sure that the third baseman (from the SS position) or the pitcher cannot get to the ball and throw to the first baseman before any of those gentlemen reach safe? They do not shift fast people...
  18. Indeed. ThEOfanopoulos (like Theo) not ThOEfanopoulos
  19. Funny thing is that unlike previous seasons with MiLB.tv, there is plenty of film if a MLB teams' manager and coaches want to put their rear ends down to watch on demand. Every single pitch that Pino threw this season is on film. But it is work to do that, and Ventura did not feel like doing it. He likely gets that stuff from the scouting department usually. No excuses for laziness... Totally not surprised with this start, based on what I watched him do last May. He deserves to be on this 25-man roster, based on who else is on it. He might be in a swing role eventually, but so far so good.
  20. Perkins' "facts" were not facts. That's part of the problem here. Biggest part of the problem? Here. Play this scenario: You are working a job that is unionized. And you are the Union rep for your plant/unit/whatever. The management took action against one of your union colleagues and they demoted him. You then go to the radio and say publicly in so many words that "he sucks". How well would that play with your coworkers who voted you as their representative? Just sayin'
  21. Thanks! Good stuff. Starts a bit after the half point. Here is something else that Berardino did not pick up: This is what Perkins said about Pinto: Fact: Pinto came up as a 24 year old last season, after 8 minor league seasons Fact: Perkins himself came up as a 23 year old, after 3 minor league seasons (and we all remember that he sucked pretty much for 2-3 season) Another fact checking that should had happened before opening mouth and throwing a teammate under the bus, but did not happen. And do you know what the ultra ironic kicker is? Perkins is the Twins' Players' Union rep.
  22. Good stuff. Glad that you guys got Manuel to admit that the Twins did not pick best overall, but the guy they wanted in the draft....
  23. I think that individual freedoms are not at play here at all. Anyone can do whatever they want at their own time and place. I cannot think of any workplaces (maybe cigar stores?) that smoking or chewing is allowed. It is a workplace issue. Get it out of there.
  24. Based on? What Perkins said when he threw him under the bus regarding pitch framing? If you read Mike Berardino's article, you'd see that when MB gave the real numbers, Suzuki was worse that Pinto in that respect. Sucks when people like Perkins open their mouths up and spew stuff that a. do not understand and b. do not even bother to check facts before they spew them, especially as far as teammates go. Pinto is at least as good as Suzuki with the glove and better with the bat.
  25. After I saw them play this Spring Training, my prediction was 70-92 for these reasons. And these reasons started to rear their ugly head the last couple weeks. I stand by it, and I hope I am wrong. Also, I just cannot believe that any fan would think that a 70-some win season is a "success" for his or her team. Very hard to wrap my mind across that concept.
