  1. about this "wrong and right thing": I shall refer to Mr William Martin Joel. Not sure that Ryan's mind is open enough to pick the best manager out there. And this sucks.
  2. Never been in any of the Dakotas, but I have jumped off a few of them. Folks used to say that George Edward Pickett was a great strategist too (methinks he was at least equal to Ronald Clyde Gardenhire. And both were born on couches.)
  3. OK. For the record: Everyone who thinks that Meyer should be relegated to the pen, he/she shall be examined and potentially committed to one of those state hospitals. Same for the one who ranks Gordon ahead of Polanco. 2 strikes for that guy. Wonder whether he has seen any of those guys play...
  4. rewind a year ago: Sano was a couple years ahead of Vargas (in my book) and Vargas was held back by the Twins' organization (again, in my book) last season (and for reference, I had ranked Vargas as the Twins' 5th prospect mid 2014, try to see any similar rankings ) If you like what Vargas did after he was called up and rolling your eyeballs about Kubel, Willingham, Morales and Colabello taking at bats instead of him, you would love Sano. I promise. He is ready, let him rip. (and do you all remember Barry Larkin and Randy Bush? That would be a perfect role for Plouffe)
  5. Thank you for leaving the right coast alone
  6. There is absolutely no excuse for Ryan to be there. The other thing you have to consider is that Ryan is not the only one responsible for this list. Gardenhire and Anderson pulled for a lot of those players to start, plus are responsible for some of them performing as they did. Sam Deduno is a great example of the former while Vance Worley is a great example of the latter.
  7. Ha. Andy and reality are really far away...
  8. I am a bit higher on Minier. I think that he is a top 10 if not a top 5 guy in this team (with May, Vargas, Santana, & Co all graduating from these lists...)
  9. Another name to throw in the mix: Ray Searage currently the Pirates' pitching coach. For obvious reasons...
  10. No excuses. Every one in every job who publicly says (even if he/she does not mean it) that he/she wants to work for a competitor, and their boss finds out, they get fired. Today the Twins made a move that suggests that there might be some level of accountability in the organization. After the post-season is done, the Twins should try to trade Nolasco for one of the Dodgers' bad contracts. I'd love it if they throw in something else (Hicks?) and get someone like Kemp. Accountability. You just cannot say that you want to work for the competition and not be held accountable.
  11. Darn. We actually somewhat agree on something If they hire internally, I'd rather see them hire Mientkiewitz as the manager and have Mauer as the third base coach. Molitor will be fine as a bench coach/guru type of a guy. (plus he is not Ryan's guy.) But, I'd rather see them go outside the organization and Dave Martinez is as good as the get. Pitching is an issue and I don't think that there are any pitching solutions within the organization. This would be a problem if they hire internally. I have the most respect for Bobby Cuellar and he could do it, but not sure that he has the stamina to do it. He would make an excellent adviser. I don't really care about Steinbach, even if he were not associated with the steroid using As who stole AL West championships from the Twins. He, like Anderson, had a mission last season: To work with Josmil Pinto and make him a better catcher. Did not happen. If he cannot do that...
  12. If Ryan is spending the payroll on the likes of Correia, Nolasco, Pelfrey, Capps, Kubel, Morales, Guerrier, Burton etc, the payroll is less of a problem than the one who spends it and how it is spent. Check out the A's and the Rays' payrolls, if you don't believe me.
  13. Cowardly? Unloyal? Try "long overdue". Did not hear anything from Olbermann saying that the Red Sox were Unloyal to Francona or the like for example. That said, less than a month ago, Ryan said publicly that "as long as I am the general manager, Gardenhire will be the manager". Makes me think that he might resign one of these days to stay true to his words.
  14. I'd take that without the cash and throw in every LHSP in the Twins' organization above high A as well...
  15. Did you check out Amazon's createspace self publishing tool? My impression is that there is no cost other than a cut off the top with the authors getting a 60-80% of the sales and they the rest. That is for books sold via amazon. If you order and print the books and sell them, then there is cost. might want to give it a look http://www.amazon.com/gp/seller-account/mm-summary-page.html?topic=200260520
  16. He was a Marlin before he was a Twin and it is his home town as well... Good to see him extended
  17. I know that this title sounds pretty ridiculous, if you consider that the Twins lost 92 games and the Orioles won 96. Interestingly enough, their team performance on both sides of the ball is pretty close: FIP: Twins: 3.97 Orioles: 3.97 OPS+ Twins: 100 Orioles: 106 wRC+ Twins 102 Orioles 105 And yet they are in polar opposites in the standings. The difference? Management and decisions (like break camp with a roster of DHs/1B & carry about 5 SSs at a point) Luck? Wanting to win more? Not sure, but just some interesting food for thought...
  18. It think that he is too generous with his list. I'd add Tonkin, Fien and Thielbar to that list, with Nolasco having one foot on the door as well...
  19. Well... This true follower of the game of baseball sees not much hope in this team and thinks that it will not be, unless it looses some of the loser culture that hangs on top of it. There are players who have been playing well this fall. Heck Parmelee had a 1.035 OPS in 2011 too. Got to see the team as a whole. Got to hear the self congratulatory statements that players like Swarzak (and I am not picking on him) have expressed within the context of 99+96+96+91+ and look at the big picture and what the brass is doing to right this ship.
  20. No worries just stating facts from this side
  21. (1) Again, Smith has a higher winning percentage than Ryan and Ryan was never held accountable (2) After 91, indeed Macphail won exactly the same number of World Champtionships as Ryan and as you (I assume) and me. (3) so what? (4) that is not a fact, it is an opinion.
  22. Nah. Those are facts. Trolling is sugarcoating the last 4 seasons (like you have been doing). And dismissing factual arguments. Fact: 1991 was the last time the Twins won a world series Fact: Terry Ryan's record as a general manager is worse that that of Andy MacPhail and Bill Smith Fact: The Twins have lost 99, 96, 96 and 91 (pending) games the last 4 seasons Please dispute those things or argue why a Twins fan should be happy about that. Period. Otherwise, you are trolling.
  23. if he actually has the potential to offer a voice over the GardyNAndy regime.... Had an amazing experience with Cuellar about 3 Spring Trainings ago. Lester Oliveros was pitching for AA in one of the side fields. As usually, there were pitchers manning the radar gun there. Cuellar came and stood on the side and was throwing numbers after every pitch without looking. 92, 93, 83, 90. Spot on every time. Surreal. Hope he has a chance after Andy is gone next season.
