  1. New managers hiring people who know as coaches. Here are a few names: Pat Hentgen - who has been bullpen coach for the Jays and pitching instructor in that organization Chris Bosio - who has had multiple jobs in the Brewers and Cubs organizations Of course, one of his closest friends is Robin Yount who has been an MLB coach before and currently is a roving instructor for the Brewers. Pretty good choice for a bench coach.
  2. Well... methinks that 4 years of 99+96+96+92 allows for some cynicism? No? Molitor was my third choice (after Lovullo & Mient,) mainly because the other two have had recent success (i.e. world series titles) outside the organization and come from winning cultures. Could had been worse: Scotty or Vavry. The trick will be to see how many of Gardy's buddy's remain in the coaching stuff. I'd take Bruno and that's about it. The rest have to go and the pitching coach better be outside this organization. If not, the Twins' way is alive and well, thank you.
  3. Injuries are not out of the GM's or the manager's or the Minor League director's control. Certain people are injury-prone. Buxton is one of them. Let see them starting to fine him $500 for any head first slide and every dive out there in meaningless games. And all MiLB games are meaningless. I think that injury-proneness should be a factor in prospect rankings. And having TJ surgery or knee surgery or something because of an one time event, is much different that injuring body part after body part because you are reckless. And I would have to be convinced that Buxton is not reckless at this point. And the Twins should do something to protect their investment.
  4. Hopefully the new manager and his staff start Pinto, keep Suzuki as the back up and DFA Fryer.
  5. Good stuff. The most telling response was the only one he got excited about and he actually said that he was inspired to go to work for that reason. Around minute 21. He said how much the Twins brand meant to him. Not the people, not winning baseball games, not the organization. The Brand. (And this is really old school marketing/product management talk to boot) Another reason the Twins really need a baseball person on top of him, to win. Let him deal with the Brand. Let someone else care about winning games.
  6. Not convinced that he is much better than Milone at this point (their stuff is about the same) but totally convinced that he is not a "future Hall of Famer". Ask Tommy John, if you don't believe me. Barely an 85 mph FB that is guaranteed to decline as he further ages. Jamie Moyer is available too.. I'd like to see a, someone like Meyer given a chance and b. what the rest can do with a better pitching coach, before having them get someone like Buehrle...
  7. Money & Spending is not the issue. Is who is doing it. Cannot think of Ryan spending $ in a productive way. He is a spendthrift and he is one of the biggest problems in this organization (as is his boss.)
  8. Thus is the problem Ryan should not be the one making decision about Maddon's position That should be Pohlad Ryan should report to Maddon, if he is lucky enough to be in the organization if someone like Maddon takes over. Hope Pohlad gets this
  9. Exactly. Agreed. But he should be the top decision maker like LaRussa in AZ is and Ryan was in TX. Thus has to be St Peter's boss.
  10. The Twins should open a new position for him and make him St. Peter's boss. Then let him decide on GM, manager etc. He will not come to MN to be a manager....
  11. McGuire, Canseco, Giambi, & company. And Tony LaRussa the architect. enough said.
  12. About time for the Twins to move on as far as all the Carp pitchers and players go.
  13. Him. GM reports to him. He is on the top of the organization as far as employees go.
  14. Do any of these guys belong on the bench of a World Series contender? That should be the Litmus test. Next...
  15. I wish we were having that conversation before the 2014 season I see Rosario as a centerfielder in 2015. The Twins OF defense war horrible in 2014 in all spots. I kinda looked at that here, using, in addition to defensive metrics, batted ball data that are really revealing. Hopefully the new manager will not play DHs or infielders in corner OF positions (Willingham, Colabello, Parmelee, Herrmann any more) On the other hand, based on what Ryan said about Sano, I am not holding my breath... There is still hope for Arcia (and Hicks) They are young. If Koskie became an above average fielder, lots of things can happen, but it takes work. And they three remaining aforementioned should go. This team has enough DHs
  16. Giants in 5. Cannot root for the Tigers, White Sox, Indians, Royals and the Yankees.
  17. Donuts to dollars, if Nolasco is still with the Twins by opening day 2015 and he is healthy, he will be the opening day starter. Hughes' 2014 performance was pretty close to his 2013, if you don't count ERA and W-L stuff. He did decrease his walk rate a lot. That was the only difference
  18. I have zero issues with the length of the game. Zero. If they want to shorten the game, they should cut down the in-between innings idiocy like the dressed maskot thing races and the scoreboard stuff.
  19. Gibson was not a bad pick. Thinking that he was picked 3 spots ahead of Mike Trout makes me cringe. Then they decided to pick Matt Bashore in the supplemental draft ahead of Billy Hamilton, Jason Kipnis and Nolan Arenado. Brian Dozier in the 8th was a good pick, but overall the Twins got only 3 players who ever played in the majors from that draft (Herrmann too.) Never mind the Bullocks, McCallums, Tootles and Streichs of that draft... Sorry folks, that one has a C- all over it.
  20. Agreed. But are you sure that this could not be Alex Meyer (or even Nolasco, with a better pitching coach?) The Twins have this issue: Nolasco Hughes Pelfrey Gibson May Milone Meyer The first six out of options, the first three on sizable contracts, and the seventh maybe the best of them all. Unless they subtract, there is no place to add. I believe in Nolasco (he has proven to be a good pitcher before) and Meyer (I think he has ace stuff and his shoulder should be stronger another year removed from injury.) I'd love to see a pitching coach who can do what the Pirates' pitching coach did with Liriano and Worley. If you got a short and blow fuses, changing fuses and tried to get bigger ones does not solve the problem because they eventually blow. I have always been of the opinion (based on performance of pitchers before and after they left the Twins vs. their Twins' performance) that Anderson was the problem. Let's see how this group will do with a better pitching coach. Finding a great pitching coach should be priority number one here. I think that the Twins got the arms.
  21. Mid 2013 Rosario was readier than both Santana and Vargas. I'd love to see him with his head screwed on straight and his heart back to the game. If he does that, I see no reasons that he is not the Twins' 2015 opening day CF. He is on the 40 man roster and will be there in ST.
  22. Indeed. I thought that he was going to be the next Yankees manager or something. Hard to let the manager of the millennium go. Hate to say that, but I think that this was a token interview.
  23. Marty Mason wow Dave Duncan's buddy who never stood alone. This is like having a vision that Andy would be the next Twins manager. And I guess Ivan A over the man who taught Pedro, Johan and The Big Unit the changeup as the token hispanic hiding in the bullpen might be seen as an improvement because of birthplace... gee/
  24. Does he think that not having a baseball person on top of the organization is a competitive disadvantage for the Twins in an era that other teams are bringing in top baseball minds as their leaders?
