  1. Napoli's beard looks like Tom Berenger's in a particular movie. Just one of them is/was fake: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eRWDnvQb8pk/Us06bg45hmI/AAAAAAAAMmk/cjn0u51h0LE/s1600/Tom+Berenger+as+general+James+Longstreet.gif
  2. This part is not. The current CBA is from 2012-2016. Peralta was suspended in 2013 and he played in the post-season.
  3. LSD is a schedule I, indeed. LSD analogs (which is what I was talking about) like Lysergic Acid (The LS in LSD - full name LySergic acid Diethylamide) is a schedule III
  4. This is akin to a player getting injured off the field while pursuing a risky activity. Nobody forced him to drink or do drugs. The contract was signed in good faith that he was over his addiction. I think that the Angels blew it not including language to void it in those circumstances. Sorry. Hard to feel sorry for millionaires who urinate their lives down the drain...
  5. No he is not. The Twins have had a worse record under Ryan that under Bill Smith. Sad but true.
  6. It is synthetic testosterone. Controlled substance and requires a Federal Schedule III form every time it is prescribed. The likelihood it is in any legit OTC supplement is about the same as codeine or LSD analogs (also schedule III drugs)
  7. In the US is only a vet drug and used for things like "wasting". It's last human indication was taken off the label before the Twins won a World Series ('84.) Widely used in the bodybuilding and professional wrestling communities for "cutting".
  8. Just half a season. He will be back on time for the post-season push and the World Series run... I hope that the new CBA will allow teams to void contract under those circumstances. I really do not care to see a steroid cheat in the team and really don't feel like rooting for him. And will have to for 4 years. Let's hope that Pelfrey pitches lights out. Thompson baffles me, but not that they have many choices. I'd rather see May, but maybe not ready.
  9. He was on the 25-man in 2013 and 2012 both during the regular reason and post-season. So, how can you evaluate players in the Spring and make roster decisions? Darts? Names off hats? Gut feelings? Or performance on the field? Or something else?
  10. a couple things re: Robinson a. if he has a place on the 25 man roster of a World Series team, he should have a place on the 25-man roster of a 99+96+96+92 L team. b. He is the best fielding OF of the bunch the Twins gave serious consideration. c. He led all 4 potential centerfielders with a .277/.333/.362 slash line.
  11. Jose Martinez and maybe even Farris and Beresford. Bernier is kinda of a future coach in waiting
  12. I think that having them every day on WTBS did it for a lot of us...
  13. Alright. I give you that (and somewhat agree, as a matter of fact.) But but but What if they do? Would you ask for Ryan's head on a platter? Molitor's? St. Peter's (he has the key, allegedly?) Cannot say "expect something" without asking for accountability if it does not happen...
  14. One thing that Gleeman got wrong: Yes we have seen what Terry Ryan is all about, but not for 15 years. 21. 1994.
  15. Hate to say this (for a lot of reasons) but Burdi was ready last year
  16. Hard to see how one can have the bandwidth to really follow more than one team. That said, there is an NL I have kept my eye on for a while (don't really follow it, I cannot recite their top prospects or even their 25 man roster) and this is the team that traded both Nolan Ryan and Tom Seaver, featured probably the best single best hitting and pitching talents I have seen who came up the same year, and helped them get a World Championship (the year before the Twins got their "first"), but then got their noses dirty and wasted their talent. Kinda the East Coast Twins in a lot of respects, but a bit more drama.
  17. Agree about the ranking of the teams. The Twins will have the best third baseman in the AL Central before all is said and done, but his name will be Miguel Sano. As far as Plouffe goes, I am thinking a .280/.350/.450 line and replacing Hunter (who would be platooning with Arcia at LF) as the Twins' every day Rightfielder.
  18. Re: Benson. He is finally healthy after 2 left knee surgeries in 2011 and 2012. And the left wrist situation (surgery in 2012, still issues in 2013 and 2014) He was playing hurt for most of the time in the Twins' higher levels (and too bad that he kept his mouth shut and keep on pressing.) Not a bad kid, good to see him make the majors.
  19. Depends on the role. On paper, he is better than Swarzak with FIP/xFIP/SIERA in the 3.90s instead of the 4.50s. I think that he is an improvement in the Swarzak (mop up) role. I think that Pelfrey is an improvement over Burton, Graham over Thielbar (who, when his BABIP came down to earth was very hittable; a LOOGY with lefties hitting .280/.327/.433 like they did last season off him, is not too great,) and Boyer is better than the journeymen for the last BP spot. So. Improvement on paper. What concerns me most about the pen, is the one who (almost) everyone else takes as a given. Perkins' velocity was down 1.5 last season compared to 2013 and he topped at 92 this ST. Never understood the infatuation with Thielbar (who is replacement level) until I realized that he was from MN...
  20. Santana is not a Centerfielder. Repeat. Asking for Santana in Center is (almost) like asking for Suzuki in Center. Or Parmelee. Despite the fact that a former manager (who is currently out of baseball) played both Santana and Parmelee in Center, they are not Centerfielders.
  21. One very important data point is missing: .280/.327/.433 LHB slash against Caleb Thielbar in 2014. Addition by Subtraction. Graham actually had a .900 WHIP against LHB this Spring and I bet will be more effective against them than Thielbar was. That said the Twins are in good hands: .235/.282/.305 Duensing's 2014 LHB slash line and .229/.277/.322 Duensing's career LHB slash line He gets lefties out. Thielbar never did.
  22. The name of that list is somewhat misleading. It is not quite the "Top 100 players" as in the prospect lists, but the sum of the top 10 players in each position, if that makes sense. Looked at 2014 Twins' position players and pitchers' rank in fWAR The following are among the top 100: Dozier 28th, Plouffe 51th, Suzuki 89th Hughes 5th, Gibson 77th I guess that Dozier, Hughes and maybe Plouffe might have been omitted.
  23. Kvasnicka is a 27 year old who was about to block one or more of Harrison, Kepler, Walker, Buxton, Rosario, Hicks etc. Was surprised by Koch and Jones, but, as far as Tyler Jones goes, he is a bit long on the tooth, never made it above high A, had a severe decline in his only strong stat last season (K%), and there are about a dozen RHRP ahead of him right now who he might be blocking. Koch was a surprise. I thought that he had a lot of potential, but apparently an age 26 .212/.304/.281 slash line in AA did not cut it. Really. This is the side-effect of having a top farm system. A lot of decent players get released. Most of them would stick with other teams, but just not with the Twins. And this year the Twins actually did not sign the usual amount of AAAA retreads (again, a sign of a healthy farm system.)
