  1. Three words: Free Daniel Palka (the Twins need LH power big time...)
  2. Kimbrel and Smith after the 2015 All Star game would have had the Twins in the post-season last season. Assets? Are you sure that those assets would have panned out? I am not. The Twins have a lot of "assets" who they hope to contribute some time tomorrow. If you are working for tomorrow, you will never have anything today, other than "assets". Walker. Melotakis. Chargois. Reed. Meyer. (Rosario. Arcia. Plouffe. Dozier. Escobar) Assets? I'd rather have Kimbrel and Smith, thank you.
  3. Speak about yourself They barely cracked my top-40 prospect list because of the deficiencies they have...
  4. Sorry, but it really misses the point. It is not about comparing Boshers and Abad with Bastardo and Sipp. For that bullpen to even remotely look like a contender's pen, it needed 2 pitchers better than Perkins. Not Bastardo and Sipp. Craig Kimbrel and Will Smith That's the problem. Perkins was D.O.N.E. Jepsen was way over his head. It seems that only Ryan was blind to those facts. Who the lefty specialist was going to be was not the issue. The issue was the closer and the set-up guy.
  5. Great stuff! However, if the poor kid thinks that Minnesota is as cold as Pittsburgh, he will be in for a pretty big surprise come his first winter there
  6. Really glad that Suzuki has been hitting better with that axe-handled bat. Hopefully Ryan is working the phones right now to get something useful back. The window of that opportunity might close the more Suzuki is playing
  7. What is not mentioned in that article is that Ryan decided to offer a minor league contract with a ST invite to Aaron Thompson (since cut and gone) and not Duensing, (not to mention the other dumpster diving heap pile pick ups) which made zero sense.
  8. I am glad that you are advocating that Buxton (42% K-rate, higher than Arcia, and with options left,) should have been the one demoted instead of Arcia DFA'd... Cannot excuse the inexcusable. Ryan had options.
  9. You lost me at Tommy Herr... (Different ballgame back then. They don't quite steal bases like they did way back then.)
  10. The GCL season is about to start. Maybe he is heading up North...
  11. The Phillies are pretty much set at RF. They have a 22 year old by the name of Dylan Cozens who is hitting .294/.371/.595 with 19 HRs in AA Reading (Eastern League.) He is a lefty hitter and thrower and around 6'6"/230. They are not going anywhere this season so they will not rush him, but he might be their starting RF as soon as 2017. They don't really need Arcia.
  12. That's included in the "few more". The team is going nowhere, Park needs to adjust to MLB pitching so the team is better with him in the majors right now.
  13. Let me count them: A1. Send a reliever down a. Demote Kepler whose OPS and OPS+ is less than Arcia's b. Ditto Buxton c. Trade Plouffe d. Trade Dozier e. Trade Abad f. Trade another reliever and a few more. Pretty horrible move from the guy who got rid of another power left hander. Ryan has to go.
  14. That's pretty optimistic (from the Perkins point of view)
  15. Reliever ERA is worthless. If they come in with the bases loaded and two outs and give a bases emptying triple and strikeout the next batter, their ERA is zero. That looks pretty fantastic on paper, however was an awful performance on the field.
  16. Fantastic? Perkins' first half in 2015: 2.30 FIP, 25.2 K% That 2.30 FIP would rank him 13th among MLB relievers in 2015 and that 25.2 K% would rank him 60th among MLB in 2015 If Perkins was fantastic, there were about a dozen or two more fantastic relievers in the majors in 2016...
  17. If Ryan is still the GM, he will plan to bring back Perkins as his closer for 2017. He has done it for 2016, after miserable performances in the second half and during ST with a clear and measurable loss in velocity. Why should he change in 2017? Ryan the GM, the plan is Perkins will be the closer, and when he cannot, let's say April 10th, the Twins will figure some thing out. We have seen this show. 2017 will be a re-run, if the same characters are around.
  18. 5 mph velocity drop does not happen when someone is ok. There was something obviously wrong with him. That said, stick a fork in him. He is done. Here is an interesting article describing what happens to pitchers with a torn labrum, like Rob Nen. A quote from there: "if pitchers with torn labrums were horses, they'd be destroyed. Of the 36 major-league hurlers diagnosed with labrum tears in the last five years, only midlevel reliever Rocky Biddle has returned to his previous level. Think about that when your favorite pitcher comes down with labrum trouble: He has a 3 percent chance of becoming Rocky Biddle. More likely, he'll turn into Mike Harkey, Robert Person, or Jim Parque, pitchers who lost stamina and velocity—and a major-league career—when their labrums began to fray." If the last sentence does not describe Perkins at the second of half of last season and this Spring, I don't know what it does. Totally irresponsible (and cost the Twins a post-season berth) not to get onto this after the AS break last season and act accordingly (get a real closer for the team.) The Twins should be in the market for a closer this off-season, or let one of Chargois/Burdi earn the job this summer. (and if that reference is a bit too old for some, here is one from last season saying pretty much the same thing)
  19. in 2014 Kepler's highest level was the Miracle - no MLB time then
  20. Other than Dozier who should be gone, I wouldn't mind this lineup in principle. That said, I think that: a. they should play Grossman (who is just 26) until he cools off. He earned a starting job right now over Rosario b. the other guy who earned at least a trial job over Rosario (and even over Kepler whose OPS is under .600) is Daniel Palka who leads an organization hurting for LH power with 16 HRs and whose OPS is hovering around .900 in AA
  21. Based on a lot of MLB vs AAA records for pretty much every young hitter who made the trip, and the shape of the team's hitting, as a whole, the better question to ask is 'what to do with Tom Brunansky'.
  22. Grossman once was a pretty regarded prospect when in the Pirates organization (I think he was in the top 100 of one of the raking sites.) Check out his BABIP until he moved up for good to the Astros in 2014. Probably averaged in the high 300s. Currently he is at .377, which might indicate that he is not way over his head. On the other hand, in his ridiculous 21 game cup of coffee, Parmelee's numbers were better than Grossman's and his BABIP was a .390 that was about 10-20 points higher than his previous career average, but not ridiculous like Grossman. We shalt see.
  23. I just hope that this ends the mythology and suburban legend that suggests that Terry Ryan, Dave St. Peter, and the Twins front office are "respected" throughout the league and regarded highly "by baseball people".
  24. Last I checked he is busy rebuilding the Phillies. After posting the worst record in the majors last season, they are hovering around .500 this one, with a solid core of young players... Hail to Terry.
  25. If they had a plan, it would seem to be this: - sit on your rear end the off-season and check the waiver wire for transactions...
