  1. FWIW, he comes with baggage. Check out his dad's website.
  2. David Ortiz (.340/.424/.732 16 HR, 54 RBI) Steve Pearce (.316/.399/.534 8 HR, 20 RBI) Wilson Ramos (.350/.392/.569 8 HR, 31 RBI) Yangervis Solarte (.329/.413/.586 4HR, 16RBI) Peter Moylan (1.86 ERA, 1.99 FIP, 9.6 K/9) Pat Neshek (2.89 ERA, 0.857 WHIP, 8.7 K/9) even Casey Fien (0.00 ERA, 0.439 WHIP, 15.4 K/9 SSS) would beg to differ Soon to add Deolis Guerra to the list...
  3. Good stuff. I will wait until the draft to start thinking about mine. Glad to see that FINALLY, you got Garver over Turner I think that both Ynoa and Minier are low, just based on their ceiling. When healthy Minier can be a monster. Smart move for Blackenhorn. If he can handle 2B, his stock will rise.
  4. The Twins should trade Brian Dozier to the Cardinals They play Gyorko right now at 2B who is more of a utility type. They are in 3rd place right now. Interesting to see how panicked they are
  5. You'd need to add Duensing to balance that trade Front end pitching prospect for a quarter season miracle utility player?
  6. Next year: Meyer, Gibson, Chargois, Burdi, Sano, Polanco, Mauer. Re: Nunez. His fielding is not attrocious. Playing every blue moon on the field in 2-3 different positions takes its toll. Last season in the plus/minus metric, he was +4 at SS. This season he is -1. Same at 3B and same at LF. He is pretty horrendous at 2B, and should never play at the other side of the diamond without a good time practicing, because it is pretty much the opposite movements and mentality from playing 3B and SS. I'd love to see what would happen if he plays consistently one position for 15 days in a row. Cannot improve a position by siting on the bench or rotating around. That simple. Check Zombrist's fielding numbers if you don't believe me.
  7. Here (bet has better range than Brian Buscher) http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/images/products/ficus-nitida-potted-plant__0138745_PE298525_S4.JPG
  8. That opinion was that of Jeff Todd who wrote that stuff. One guy's opinion.
  9. He was tipping his pitches last season. Was an aberration. ROOGY? With a .753 Opponents OPS? UFFDA
  10. Proven track record are 3 big words. 2016 off Abad: LHB: .080/ .111/.120 RHB: .292/.320/.375 That looks like a proven track record for a LOOGY
  11. The one issue I have with Dakota Hudson is that I am not sure that he projects as a major league starter because he has only two (albeit both above average) pitches and has command issues. Might get the change up in the pros or might not, but the command issues have to get fixed as well. Definitely a back of the pen guy for sure, which might or might not be fine at #15. The guy I like for the Twins more and more is LHP Eric Lauer who has been flying under the radar at Kent State. 4 pitches with above average to plus command and control, great mechanics and durability, a close to plus slider and he fits a need. Tom Glavine is a pretty good comparable for the style of pitcher he is. Pretty high floor and decent ceiling (number 2 or number 3 starter.) Pretty sure he will be available at #15, not so sure that he will last until the Twins' second pick... Interesting to see.
  12. I'll give you a third, and a fourth, and a fifth: 3. His OPS+ is 107, which means he is 7% better than the average MLB hitter, even though he has not fully adjusted to the MLB vs Korean baseball; he will improve an already above average performance 4. The Twins have already prepaid a bunch for Park and what is left is 3 years at $2.5M and $3M which is practically pocket change, plus an option for less than what Plouffe made this arbitration year 5. He is the best fielding first baseman the Twins have above A-ball.
  13. So if you sit him and make him a glorified utility player, would that increase his value and be able to sell higher than now? To sell you need a motivated buyer. And now you have 2. Who knows what will happen between now and the off-season. Grab the opportunity by the horns, addition by subtraction, even if Ryan's got to pay some cash and get a so-so prospect.
  14. Totally like that. That's what Excel does But it is operates on N significant figures. If you cut those to 2 for your tables, you better make sure that the result makes sense in 2 significant figures
  15. 1 is a guess. 2 Yes, but he can do better; has a career 98 OPS 3. The As and Angels are 4 and 5 games under .500. Too early for them to throw in the towel. Not sure that Valencia & Escobar are better than Plouffe, esp with the glove. They are swinging hot bats this seasons. 4. .167/.242/.267 Flores' slash line this season and he has played a grand total of 34 games at 3B in the majors...
  16. These guys cannot do math (or let excel do it and have no editing) 17-2 = 16 The one thing that this article fails to mention is that Buxton's problem was not on his toes, but dealing with major league breaking balls, a thing he did not have to deal with in AAA. Time will tell if the leg thing might help
  17. The "new Nunez" conceptually is not far away from the "new Punto"; just about a manager's mancrush away...
  18. He is better than their internal options. Not sure who else is available, but Plouffe is under (optional) team control for this and next season, and if Ryan pays 1/2 of what he is owed, he might be made a better option than the competition. Likely better on the field than other available options as well.
  19. There is no such thing as a Twins' model. And if there is, it is different and less successful than the Royals' model. IIRC the Royals traded their top prospect and an up and coming pitcher for a top of the rotation pitcher (Shields) and a future closer. If the Twins traded Buxton and Darnell for Shields and Davis, there would be a revolution. Also, last July the Royals traded a top pitching prospect (Manea) to the As for Zobrist. This might actually be close to what the Twins did when Bill Smith was the GM (Ramos for Capps,) but nothing even remotely resembling Ryans wildest dreams. More like the antithesis of what TR has been doing, which is being unwilling to trade top prospects. I'd love it, btw, if he traded Buxton and got a high return before Buxton got exposed by started swinging at curves like he was swatting at flies in the majors. Something that KC would had done... Totally opposite mindsets.
  20. The Mets just lost Wright today. They will trade for someone within the week. Might as well be Plouffe. There are few buyers at this point and the Mets are one highly motivated one. The Twins can play Nunez at 3B until Sano returns from the DL. If the Mets get a 3B, there will be one less buying in the market. Ryan has to act now.
  21. I'd take 2014 13th Rd draft pick LHSP PJ Conlon and 22 year old C Tom Nido off their hands, in a heartbeat. Both around 22/23 and in A ball and both have been flying under the radar, but made big jumps this season.
  22. Well deserved! Cannot have enough good lefties. Theofanopoulos has got to be one of the most misspelled names out there (appears 2 ways up there )
  23. Quite the opposite. Ryan traded people past their prime and he has received nothing back. He declined to trade Perkins, Dozier, D. Santana, Suzuki etc after career seasons recently. He traded Span, Revere, Hughes who were under team control and those 3 trades looks like a wash. Traded Liriano, instead of getting a pitching coach to help him (and LHSP was a huge position of need since.) Before he retired the first time, he hanged on players too long. Other than the AJ trade and the Hollins trade (when he received Ortiz; but that should be nullified) he did not get anything really back. In the 90s he traded Erickson, Tapani and Guthrie for Scrubs and Coomer (who also was a scrub in any other team). He traded Aguilera for prospects who did not pan out. He held too long on Mientkiewicz and got nothing back (Justin Jones) while Morneau was ready to play. He traded Todd Walker (and Huskey) for nothing (Todd Sears). Traded Javier Valentin (who was a more than serviceable back up catcher) fro nothing. Matt Lawton for Rick Reed and Kielty for Steward were a wash. People thought that he was a great GM because of the Pierzynski trade and the Santana pickup. The Ortiz release, the Casey Blake release, the Liriano trade, few of the above misguided trades, the dumpster diving free agent pickups, the ill-advised extensions vs. trades after career seasons etc, tell a different story if one sees his career as a GM holistically. And then there is the bottom line of one post-season series win in 21 seasons...
