  1. There is always a need for guys like pino and Johnson. Once may and Meyer are up and an injury happens you want those guys for a few spot starts. That is the perfect role for them. I don't mind using a few 40 man spots for guys like them.... problem is when you have 5 or so bring taken up with that type.
  2. Lol halsey. Let's get rid of a league average 3b coming into his prime years that has immense position flexibility. What did plouffe do to you to make you so mad at him? What happens if Sano has to move off 3b?
  3. Seth, I agree about everyone with the exception of Hermann. He is not an mlb player. His value was in catching and he's terrible at it. He can't hit a lick and isn't even a great of. He can provide emergency back up, but only on a minor league contract that didn't take up a 40 man roster spot.
  4. I would absolutely take that bet. There is no way Mauer accomplishes that in 4 years. I very much hope the twins can find a better option for dh by that time. Unless Mauer learns to start driving the ball, I will despise his time at 1b for the rest of his time with the twins.
  5. A sweep at home.... at the hands of the White Sox.... would be tough to swallow. The Twins are playing terrible right now. I have to agree, that it would be tough for Gardy to be enthusiastic while heading for a 4th straight 90 loss season. I don't blame him. I really think he'd be a better manager of a team like the Dodgers or Yankees anyway. There is too much negativity surrounding this team. Hopefully we will have something to be excited about again soon.
  6. I can't wait until the Twins have new FO people.
  7. Riiiight. Because more time in AAA means they will be more comfortable their first few MLB starts.... I wonder if the Twins can keep all their starting pitchers in AAA for the season, then when it is playoff time they will be more comfortable.
  8. I'm in. Send me a message whenever. My schedule is hit and miss.
  9. I bet. That's the pleasure that I get... Coaching kids when they are little and 5 years later they are bigger than a moose. I moved not too far from you about 3 years ago. I live in Manson work for a wind company Gamesa.
  10. I didn't know you were lurking around here. Thought we lost you in the move to TD (or hoped at least). Once again the twins and white Sox are playing for meaningful games..... To see who gets the better draft pick.
  11. Cy Noesi. That's all. My contribution to the game thread for a month.
  12. "Jorge, lo siento. Tu vas a Minnesota. No no no no no. Tu vas a jugar en Minnesota. Si. Es possible CF. No se. No se."
  13. Because the pitcher cannot control how many runs can score and the GM cannot control.... what exactly? How is judging a GM on the success of a team or a manager on success in 7 playoff series even close to a pitcher's W/L record? I guess you could judge on the "progress" of the team, or whatever the dude from the other thread was talking about. Then you have the KC Royals. They seem to always have a great farm system. Lets be like them.
  14. You're missing the point. I would be fine with him getting a chance if Meyer and or May weren't knocking on the door. You really think a month of AAA for guys that have been in the minors for years is going to matter that much? I don't. I wanted them promoted after Pelfrey went down. The issue is that in order to compete in the near future the Twins need someone like Meyer or May to become a good MLB pitcher. Not a back end starter which I'm sure Pino would be capable of. There is an adjustment period for that. Every start in AAA makes that adjustment happen latter and latter. You've already said in other threads that the age prospects make it to the MLB doesn't matter to you. The age thing isn't as important as wasting innings in AAA; which is what Gibson did in 2013, and both May and Meyer are doing now. I just don't get why someone like Arcia is given the opportunity to fail and learn while May, Gibson, Meyer are not.
  15. Nice to read. Seems like Vargas just keeps getting better each year.
  16. I guess that depends on how much weight you put on ERA and W/L. Many feel that W/L are a worthless stat for pitchers. It really doesn't tell you much about their performance. ERA is better but it still doesn't tell the whole story when you're looking at small samples. The other issue is that Pino is not a prospect anymore. By the time players are 30 the book has pretty much been written. Guys don't really "break out" after 30, so why waste MLB innings on him when there are prospects that need those innings for development.
  17. Could be a sign of fatigue from full season ball. He might be compensating and throwing off his mechanics. I want to be confident the Twins will be pro-active his health considering his value to the future of the organization.
  18. The problem is that the talent coming in will likely be better than the talent leaving... If May and Meyer start getting starts, Rosario and Vargas get brought up.... we might be looking at playoffs boys!
  19. Berrios is simply having a great season. I wonder what his upside is going to be listed at this offseason.... He has 3 plus pitches in his FB, curve, and change right? Is it too ambitious to give him Lincecum potential? I really like his arsenal. Last season I was concerned with his trouble at the end of the season. It seems like something clicked for him this season. I'll be looking forward to watching him the rest of the season.
  20. Wow you all sound like a bunch of whiners lol. Buxton will be alright. His wrist probably just hurts dudes.
  21. Cool article. Provides good examples of the negatives of going the other way too often. A follow up would be an explanation of why hitting a ball the other way with authority is difficult. A huge pretty peeve of mine with mauer is his lack of pull power.
  22. I'd also like to point out some flaws against gardy. I've got off topic slightly with Terry Ryan, but gardy is not blameless either. I put a lot of fault on gardy for his 6-21 playoff record. Sure, there were years when Ryan didn't fill holes adequately and he didn't have much of a chance. However, there were also years when the twins under performed greatly. I don't think 27 games, or 7 series, is a small sample size. The manager is responsible for preparing and making in game decisions. Both were bad by gardy. The playoffs magnified what many already felt during the regular season. I don't hate gardy and want him gone because if it. I think he could be successful in other teams. I'm not sure that I'd ever trust him in the playoffs though. The game changes and I doubt feel like gardy has embraced the evolution of the game.
  23. Old nurse, we obviously have different opinions on Ryan's impact. He left Bill Smith in a bad position. The farm system was bad, Hunter leaving and Santana leaving was a tough position. Also, while Bill Smith made some bad decisions, he also drastically increased talent in the low minors. Plus, Terry Ryan was still involved in those bad decisions. The current state of this team is still Terry Ryan's responsibility, he is, after all, the gm and is going on his 4th season of a terrible product. I feel like you want to give him a pass because he wasn't calling all the shots for 3 years. You have to remember he is the one that appointed Smith. And if it takes a few years too get talent to the major leagues, it takes a few years for lack of talent to show. Smith made terrible trades, but who were the people telling him to pull the trigger? I don't want to beat this topic to death. I'm under the impression you are on board with Ryan as a gm and I'm trying to provide evidence to show why it's time to move on. If you still feel I'm on the wrong side, I'd love to see evidence to counter mine.
  24. If I was Suzuki, I'd be trying for 3 years and 20 million. He's going to be the top FA catcher in the off-season and will get paid like it. That is why they are far apart.
  25. Billy beanne has had 4 losing seasons in 16 years, and those were 2011, 09, 08, 07. He has won over 90 games 10 times and 100 twice. Sabean has two world series championships in a little less time than Terry Ryan has had. You really want to compare the two? Dombroski has been to the playoffs 5 times, alcs 4 times and world series 2 times. His budget is high and it remains to be seen how much longer the tigers will be good. Still, more successful than Terry Ryan. You picked these gm's off the top of your head, and I'd prefer two thirds over Ryan. Ryan has had 5 years with more than 90 wins. I'm considering him responsible for the 2010 team. Glad you asked how many losing seasons. This is going to be his 12th. The farm system for the twins looks good right now, but it did before the twins run of mediocrity too. In fact, those twins teams had a lot of talent. The problem was Terry Ryan couldn't adequately fill holes on the roster, or you could blame gardy, but since gardy is still the manger he doesn't. The twins can cry about small markets all they want. Other teams have found ways to win. Plus, they have the ability to spend now. The fact is there needs to be a change.
