  1. I watched Arcia's recent walk-off HR for NB. The dude has legit big time power potential. I don't think the Twins will need to worry about filling an OF spot for awhile.
  2. I didn't see it. Despite the lack of HR's, Plouffe has been drilling line drives all over the place. I think he is going to be a pretty good hitter. Give him a little time in the league to see pitchers and their stuff and he will only get better. Hitting line drives, to me, is a big separator between average hitters and good hitters. The ability to get solid wood on the ball will create more hits as well as XBH.
  3. Benson is continuing to kill it. Awesome to see him coming back to where we all thought he should be.
  4. Verve coming out (of the closet) with his guns blazing.
  5. What are you guys smoking? The would Plouffe EVER think about going to another position? He is fielding great, hitting great, I'm sure he plans on staying at 3b for the rest of his career. Wow. Very few guys think "hey, if I learn to play other positions I can get shuffled around all season." Leave him at 3b. There are no options other than Valencia ready and I'm pretty sure the Twins are done with him.
  6. Joe Saunders? Really? If Grienke continues to struggle he isn't going to get 20m a year. If they can get Grienke for 5 years 80-90m thats what I would want. Me ideal scenario would be Grienke, Gibson, Hendriks, Diamond, Blackburn. With an incentive deal negotiated with Baker and him taking Blackburn's spot when ready. That would be a solid rotation. I'm assuming Gibson and Hendriks will develop, but I know this isn't a given. With that rotation I think this team could be playoff team... BUT, if they really wanted to... Sign Grienke and get Liriano with the option. A rotation like that could be legit. That would put the Twins over 100m, but not by much (assuming Span is dealt). Morneau is then coming off the books to free up more space so next year would be the highest of payroll, but you'd also be winning games (and selling out target field in the process). This team will be better and my approach would have them making more money via playoffs (and hopefully deep playoff run).
  7. The Twins are in a good situation here. With Grienke struggling and Hamels close(?) to signing with Philly, he is the best arm available. Plus, he has a 12m option for next year so he's not going to go straight into FA. What team other than the Twins would give him a long-term contract? He'd be better off accepting the 12m and putting together a great season next year. Then he's still on the right side of 30 and can try to get a 3 or 4 year deal. If the Twins don't get a good offer, just keep him. Maybe work with his agent and see if they are going to accept the 12m and if not throw out a little more on a 1 year deal. They have to understand Liriano has to prove he's worth a long-term commitment.
  8. No. The jump just isn't that significant. Pitchers are more polished, but with less stuff in many cases. Parmelee's 2012 season is not a disaster. The Twins have misused him and he is killing it in AAA. Still plenty of potential to be a solid big leaguer (blocked by Morneau for now). Dozier is starting to show signs of adjusting well to MLB pitching, and only had 116 PA in AAA. Benson was up with the Twins, getting much more valuable experience. There is just more talent in AA. AAA is the staging level. When you have a prospect that is ready (via Dozier 2012) they go to AAA until a spot opens up. Or, prospects (Revere 2012) are sent down to refine something and get called back up when they have done it. When one of the AA guys gets called up to AAA we can take it as a sign the Twins think they are close to being ready. Of course you have the fillers and fringe prospects too, but I think we can sort through that well enough.
  9. Anyone spent any time here? I'll be moving here for work in 2 months. Wondering if anyone has any input about the area.
  10. I didn't get the jizz fest when Casilla didn't run past that ball. If he gets hit he is out, runner's interference he is out. He doesn't beat the throw anyway. Just thought it was a stupid tantrum.
  11. Completely agree. I think a lot of these problems can be solved at the state level with proper legislation.
  12. I really like the new highlight realz they've done between innings. It just gives a cool little recap with extra footage we don't always see, with sweet music. I'd like to see this continue with the same people in charge.
  13. Nice contract JR lol. Not that its breaking the bank, just stupid.
  14. Lev, I think you might be hyperventilating a little. Nobody is claiming government be the answer (we both know psuedo is a little left, but he's playing nice). To me the answer is a mix. I also don't think "welfare" itself is the problem. The big 3 no politician will touch (except Paul) is Medicaid, Medicare and the defense budget. Each one needs to reformed and until that happens this country will continue to go into further debt. I'll list my solutions, since I would be an awesome president (and I'd still talk on BYT... er... Twins Daily). Medicade- Require drug testing and enrollment in community building activities (i.e. removing brush with I.D. checks and everything). This will require the people getting money from tax payers to actually do something in return. Medicare- Raise the age eligible. People are living too long on Medicare. The mortality age has risen and medical technology has allowed older people to rack up huge costs. I'm not going to talk about social security.... Defense budget- Audit that bitch. We are paying way too much money and politicians just don't give a ****. Why? At this point its just out of control.
  15. He is striking too many people out. He needs to get a few more ground balls and let his fielders do the work.
  16. I'm glad I've avoided this thread.
  17. I think Plouffe is now my favorite player. Can't help but pull for the guy. Seems to take things seriously and keeps getting better. I'm more impressed with how well he's played on defense and his continual growth than anything.
  18. Thanks RP. Much better now.
  19. Another gem by Hendriks. I really hope he can make the transition soon so we can count on him towards the future. Gibby (future nick-name) threw 2 innings today with 5 ground-outs. I really don't care about the earned runs right now. The fact he is getting that many ground-outs is good, and once he starts getting some arm strength built up the K's will come along with 0's on the scoreboard.
  20. Guess I didn't hear this. Makes more sense this way.
  21. I would be surprised if he turned out anything more than Swarzak has.
  22. How many first round picks are going to need surgery for the Twins? This is getting stupid.
  23. Exactly my guess. If Liriano isn't traded he will be in the 1 spot. I think it will also be Blackburn for Baker early before its Blackburn for Gibson early. Actually, I guess JR will do a low risk sign like Ramon Ortiz to fill that spot until Baker is ready. Look what happened with R.A. Dickey!!11!1 You know JR saw him make the All-Star Game and punched himself in the face.
