  1. I remember that game. The game threads back then were epic. The only reason the Twins ended up getting to the postseason was the collapse the Tigers. They ended the season 11-15. The Twins went 16-4 to force game 163.... then got swept in the playoffs.
  2. Obviously at this point Trout is the favorite to win ROY, but I think Diamond should get some votes. In fact, if it wasn't for a historic year by Trout/Trumbo, Diamond could easily be a front runner. I really hope he gets a little national love for his season.
  3. Wow, tough break for Plouffe. He stung the **** out of that ball.
  4. I think it was 2009 because they made the playoffs. Only reason I think that is because I remember it being hilarious watching him jump on and off the bandwagon multiple times. I could be off though.
  5. So the point of this thread is that Gibson (and Baker IMO) contributing next year isn't out of the question.
  6. You have to add talent into the system. This is kab's point. The Twins need to inject talent into the minors pitching staffs because there currently is none. The only 2 pitchers in the top 10 in the entire system just had TJ surgery... not good. It doesn't matter when this team is going to "compete", making good trades is a part of baseball. If Liriano stays with the Twins it will be because they offered him a long-term deal (10+ per year) or he is getting 13 mil. The Twins can invest that money in another FA, it doesn't just disappear.
  7. I'm pretty sure Stat proclaimed a season over after a May 17ish loss. It was one of his greatest posts ever. Especially since he wrote it: Season. Over.
  8. Funny. I thought last year was his best year. Of course there are things that pissed me off like the Slowey thing and the bunting for hits thing, but that is just Bert.
  9. I feel very statfreak-esc. How many posts in a row can I get to? I didn't quote myself in any though so maybe I should.
  10. I don't think anyone would either way. I'm in favor of keeping him and have been all season, but the other side is just as valid.
  11. Look at you go. Talking about baseball again! It must feel good.
  12. Mauer isn't being held back from catching because he is banged up, he isn't catching because he doesn't have to.
  13. Why does is ****ing matter how much Mauer catches this year? He isn't blocking anyone. He isn't taking AB's from Jim Thome. Get off it. Let him build his legs up. Next year this team will be better, and the after a playoff caliber team. Let Mauer spend his time behind the plate then, when there ARE bats that need to be in the lineup. Who ****ing cares right now.
  14. Why not? The Jays need a high upside starter to try and make the playoffs this year. A single top 100 player isn't much to give up for that.
  15. By trading Liriano they are not "blowing the thing up." They are trying to get talent back since they obviously don't think he's worth the 13 mil he has an option for next year. I think its clear they are going to need to add at least 1 SP in free agency over the winter. You have to remember that Baker and Gibson are real possibilities for next year. Gibson is already pitching in the GCL and I imagine Baker (if the Twins can figure out his contract) could be ready to join the Twins early next season. If these two hadn't gotten hurt.... this team might be in the thick of things for the AL Central.
  16. I see swear words are now filtered. I'll have to start swearing in Spanish..
  17. I have a hard time believing Perk knows the daily scoop on what JR does. He plays baseball, and travels all over doing it, it would be improbable that Perk is that plugged in. That said, I'm not a big fan of JR, I've said it before. I want new blood in charge and changes made up and down the organization. This years draft has me curious to see where it goes. P.S. for as much **** as Billy Smith got, his big time minor league players are going to give the Twins their next best shot at a world series...
  18. Why would you say that? The closer to the MLB a prospect is the more valuable they are to that team. If you want a prospect with a high upside more than likely you'll have to reach further down into the minors. This isn't always true for Cliff Lee type deals, but when trading a player like Liriano... Besides, I'd rather have higher upside arms for when Sano, Rosario, Hicks, Arcia etc. are playing. I can wait 2 years for a prospect the Twins trade Liriano for.
  19. Foolishly? Did you follow basis? His seasons were very underwhelming. Its one thing to have tools, its another to grow and utilize them. Look at some of the toolsy OF in the past 5 years that have failed. Hicks had some real issue. I haven't read any scouting reports on what has changed, but he certainly turned something around. I'm interested to see if he can keep it up the rest of the year and earn a promotion, and what scouts have to say about him now.
