  1. Until other players on the Twins roster are clearly better than Mauer, Molitor will continue batting him high in the order, with a few more days off against lefties thrown in. Buxton, Polanco, Kepler, Rosario should all be in the bottom half of the order, let them gain confidence and earn a higher spot. Lets also see how Mauer and the young Twins players do, maybe this discussion will have more relevance in September and next year.
  2. Its value until he gets hurt diving for a ball...
  3. My thoughts: Make Gimenez the backup catcher. In order for the Twins to improve, the pitching has to improve - a lot. Having two veteran catchers would help a lot. And I suspect thats why Falvey brought him in. Scrap Grossman and go with a defensive reserve outfielder. Again, in order for the Twins to improve, the pitching has to improve, and good defense will help the pitching. Put Buxton at the bottom of the order for at least the first two months of the season. Put him in a position to succeed without the pressure of leading off. Play Polanco at least once a week at second, make Dozier take a day off now and then, keep him rested, so he isn't so streak prone. Ideally May and Berrios would be in the rotation but if its pick and choose, put May in the rotation - see if starting will keep him healthy - and Berrios in the bullpen, where he can gain some confidence. He has nothing left to prove in AAA.
  4. After reading the article I'd bet even money that Gimenez is the back up catcher....
  5. I think they should leave Buxton at the bottom of the order for at least half a year, or even a full year, let him gain some confidence, let him learn how to handle slumps without the pressure of leading off. Take the long term view of whats best for Buxton's development. I also hope he stays healthy....
  6. Why do people think that Kepler should be in left and Rosario in right?? And why haven't the major league coaches and manager done the change???!
  7. Patience grasshopper. Aside from a Dozier trade, it wouldn't bother me if they did nothing between now and the 2017 trade deadline. Give them time to evaluate the players in spring training and early in the season THEN they'll have a better idea of what they have and don't have. That better than making some hasty moves and then regretting it later. Patience.
  8. With Buxton's speed, he should have been ordered to bunt at least once every game when he was coming up thru the minors. That speed does no good if he can't get on base.
  9. You were doing good until you got down to the Mauer talk, especially the point about Dozier being hot and cold and it being a gamble to wait until the 2017 trade deadline. Get it done now, get some starting pitching back. Mauer is not going anywhere. Hometown hero, he grew up here, his wife is from here, he's not going to request or accept a trade. And he's still a better first basemen than anybody else on the Twins roster, and better than a lot of other major league first basemen. There are some things in life you just have to grin and bear it, let time pass, this is one of them. Only two more years, only two more years, only two more years. Keep repeating that to yourself.
  10. a) 10% chance 60% chance I hope they get a Dozier trade done this off season, he'll never have more value after his 40+ HR season.
  11. I can't believe I just slogged thru the bickering in this thread. Is the glass half full or half empty?? The new Twins front office signed a player that they think will improve the team. I'm thinking that's a positive and I'm curious and looking forward to any other changes they make. Its going to be an interesting 4 months until the season starts and I'm going to give the new management every benefit of the doubt because no matter what they do it has to be better than what we've seen the last 5 years. Now on to a news site to see what the Trumper is up to, something that really is important to our future.
  12. If you can't get a good offer for Dozier, keep him, with the idea/hope that some contending team will have an injury at 2nd base, making them more willing to offer a good deal before the 2017 trade deadline.
  13. Lets just hope that Buxton can stay healthy in 2017, then next October we'll have a better handle on what kind of player he will be. One good month or even one good year does not make a HOF career.
  14. "Its not the size of the bull but the size of the heart in the bull". Or in human terms, motivation and desire are as important as athletic ability. Meyer is obviously motivated in California. For his sake, I hope he does well.
  15. How do you remember trivial stuff like this?? Did you set up a notification on your Outlook calendar??!
  16. Reading through the Strib article, he sounds exactly like what the Twins needed, a young baseball mind. Best of luck to him!!! Its going to be interesting the next five years to see what changes he makes and how the Twins record responds.
  17. Nitpicking was exactly the term I was thinking of as I read thru the posts nitpicking LEN's pitching comments.
  18. Ryan always built a bullpen by going to the scrap heap, signing 3-5 guys that were coming off of injuries, bad years, etc. and bringing them all into spring training, seeing if any would stick. It will be interesting to see how the new GM/front office guys builds a bullpen.
  19. People badmouth Gibson but you notice he's second on Nick's list -- the Twins don't have a lot of options. They need him to eat up some innings and hope that he turns the corner and becomes more consistent. He has talent but just can't string together 3-4 good games.
  20. I had to go listen to that for old time sake!!!
  21. I agree with you that the Twins should be playing the young guys, trying them out and getting them some meaningful at-bats but the person the really counts is Paulie, he makes out the line-up and with Detroit and Seattle theoretically in the hunt for a play-off spot, we'll be seeing Mauer and Suzuki two out of every three games. I disagree with you about Buxton, if he can't practice bunting during a lost season, when would be a good time to try bunting?? Your theory that he should concentrate on 'hitting' is nice but he'll need to work on hitting throughout his career (see Dozier, Brian), as he gets better hitting, pitchers will adjust, he'll have to counter what they do. Bunting occasionally would move the in infielders in, helping his hitting.
  22. Sano, Kepler, Buxton are your untouchables until you are a serious contender and one player away from a championship -- think Kansas City and the Wil Myers trade. Until then you need to play all the young position players -- add Polanco, Rosario, Walker, Garver, Vargas, etc. to the list - and let the pitching prospects catch up. Trade only from a position of excess, Polanco/Dozier would be a good example.
  23. Good article Seth!!! I was wondering how the 'Polanco experiment' was going!!! Dozier only has one more year on his contract, correct?? If he's not traded in the off season or at the trade deadline, it won't hurt to have Polanco get more ML at-bats before he moves to second base in 2018.
