    Why would you trade your young OF depth, especially when there are real no viable options after them? That's how you run into a situation like last season where you are forced to play Celestino/Cave/Williams/Contreras in almost a full time role. I get people want to see Wallner, I thought he might get a start today, but he's been up for 2 whole games. I don't see how being worried about the 2024 starting OF lineup right now is a concern. There's probably a pretty decent chance that Taylor is roaming CF next year.

    Because he wants to play? Because he sees his role being taken. It's so easy for us from the sidelines to just toss guys on the IL. A young competitive player downplaying an injury to stay in the lineup....... not the first nor last time you will hear of it.

    The problem is we don't see what goes on behind the scenes. If he trainers tell Byron his legs aren't there to play the OF but can still hit, who are you blaming? If Buck is killing the ball in practice and in the cages and the staff and manager feels he is an asset to the team... then what? It's really easy for fans to say, "Psssh 0-4!! He's a POS, put him on the IL! He can't play OF, then he can't hit!" You really think that Rocco knows he's injured and struggling, but keeps him batting third and risking his job because of Buxton's pay escalators?

    You beat me to it! Saw him get the pinch hit call in the ninth tonight and didn't realize he had his debut last night.

    Gray has shown to be the ultimate competitor. He has spoken out on more than one occasion over multiple seasons about being taken out of games too early. If anyone really thinks anyone with that mental attitude is going to walk away after what's his arguable best year and leave between $40-70M on the table is off their rocker.

    😂😂 that's the fun in the draft! Then 60% of the first round will fail and pick #21 will be the best player in the draft and everyone in hindsight will go nuts that we didn't take him.

    I don't think a 2 year extension should bother anyone. A year to recover and possibly pitch late next year and 2025 to "prove" or showcase himself that's he's back. Could be part of 2025 or could turn into a trade chip and the salary would be lower than you would find on the market.

    Because of off the field stuff? Outside of the Joc Pederson fantasy football tiff, I don't know much about him in that sense. He would seemingly be the exact type of player the Twins could use. Right handed, OF bat, expiring contract and is actually playing quite well this year. His OPS+ is higher than anyone on the Twins roster right now and his OPS of .928 against lefties would be very welcomed.

    Buxton has a full no trade clause and worked hard with the front office to stay in Minnesota. He wanted to be here. He's not going anywhere.

    Pablo was brilliant. He pounded the zone all night long. There was only a small handful of ABs that he didn't throw a first pitch strike, so refreshing to see.

    At this point you would have to assume he opts in, but that's a long ways down the road. I also think the Twins would have given him that 4 year extension...just not the rest. I think that's the thing about trades, we always want a clear winner and loser, but trades can often times just come out eh or even in the long run. Obviously, we won't know for awhile. It was Berrios and Ober, which I understand is a pretty SSS, Ober has injury problems in the past and not a fantastic comparison, but I have seen his name in a couple trade proposal threads, which would be quite crazy to me.

    This will be an interesting topic to discuss for years to come. Interesting to note the Twins have 4 starters with better numbers than Jose this year and his big money in his extension doesn't kick in until next year. I think the real question should be, would you as a Twins fan be good with Berrios on the same contract and still in a Twins uniform? It's a long contract and a lot of money to dish out if remains just a mid-rotation-ish starter. Just for reference: 3.74 ERA, 4.10 FIP. 8.47 K/9, 2.5 BB/9, 0.5 WPA - 5.94 Innings per start 2.70 ERA, 3.43 FIP. 8.69 K/9, 1.76 BB/9, 1.4 WPA - 5.86 innings per start Any guess the comparison?

    So nice to see the vets starting to heat up. Maeda and Kepler showing why you don't DFA veterans in April-May, much to the dislike of many posters around here. Kep has to be one of the best hitters in baseball the last two weeks. I love the passion Kenta shows out of the mound too. Buck looks like he is seeing the ball so much better. He looked absolutely lost at the plate for a while... so nice to see him back.

    The term and position of "closer" is outdated. Duran is the Twins best relief arm and it's not even debatable. Him being called upon to get the bats out in the lineup in late game situations SHOULD be his go to. What's the advantage of using him in "exclusively in save situations?" You should want your best arm facing the top and heart of the opponents order, that's who your biggest threat is, especially late in games. Letting a "closer" just pitch the ninth of a game to close a game is underutilizing your best arm. Saves are a sexy statistic, but not a practical one.

    It should be both. 1 run is obviously not going to cut it. But Duran was off. 1 good contact ball off of him. 2 walks, a bloop and a HBP is tough from your dominant closer
