The Pohlads Set Derek Falvey Up To Fail
old nurse replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If Falvey was set up for failure in the manner suggested it would be also fair to say Falvey isn’t very bright and did not deserve the job in the first place.- 51 replies

It is a nefarious plot to get you to be a caretaker. Now you are going to get every shoe and hiking boot with a high stack height. Fear not, there are only 30-40 different variety of Hokas

Jersey sales goes to the league after operating costs for the store fans did not come out to see any other star player other than Molitor when the Twins signed them or traded for them.

The numbers posted by both him and Mathews would suggest there is nothing to be gained by having them in St. Paul. To me Festa is at the back of the bullpen. Mathews stuff may play better with more velocity. We will just have to wait for the crack Twins Daily writing team to come up with their scientific analysis to debate it

The 5 Best and 5 Worst Moves of the Derek Falvey Era
old nurse replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I didn’t say the numbers were Falvey’s fault, only that he made decisions off them. Those decisions were based of what the Pohlads told him he could do. They aren’t going to publicize if they make changes. To me, it is why St Peter was moved to an advisory role and Falvey promoted. We shall see what Tom Pohlad does .- 60 replies

The 5 Best and 5 Worst Moves of the Derek Falvey Era
old nurse replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Ownership makes decisions on what to do with the information they have presented to them. Falvey had said budget was based on previous year’s income. When they upped the payroll it was a gamble the team would draw significantly more by winning. They lost the gamble, the budget cut is a repercussion of that. Losing the money from local television contract can be pared on Pohlad’s not understanding the market. Go Radio showed they didn’t understand the market. Clearly the people they hired to project money did not figure the chord cutting and changing markets for television. That is what Ryan described as a system failure. The repercussion was a sharply decreases budget. While streaming hasn’t been a total failure, there was something somewhere that said the money from streaming was a little less than half for mlb in total. If you consider that the Twins are on the low end of revenue per fan, it may be safe to say their revenue is probably significantly less than half of what they were getting from cable. Their cable deal was at the time one of the lowest ones.- 60 replies

The 5 Best and 5 Worst Moves of the Derek Falvey Era
old nurse replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Bad decisions by Falvey 1. Trading for players with injury histories 2. The focus on power first hitters, trying to make hitters power hitters that aren’t 3. Trading for a player having a career year 4. Long term contract for Correa. That was putting all of your eggs in one basket that is flimsy 5. Counting on fans to show up for a team that was winning.- 60 replies

Why a Twins Rebuild Was Never the Only Answer
old nurse replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Fangraphs will tell you that WAR is an approximate number. Therefore the win total is an approximate number. What one can gather from their numbers is that the teams in the central division are all about equally mediocre so it is possible to be competitive in the central division. Every team has a collection of what ifs- 50 replies

People keep going to the on field affairs. At this point with no major money to be spent it was going to be on Zoll the GM to figure out. On the business and staffing side ,which Falvey also had control over, is where the likely problem lies. Payroll in the 120 million range, revenue was over 300 million and they were losing money. Unless you are a moron with a chainsaw it does take a little time to learn the details. The timing of that leadership change was not going to t effect the on field performance

Nobody takes the simple, easy solution. If the disarray on the plate side of things bothered the Pohlads Falvey would have been fired at the end of the season. The financial disaster was to be blamed on anyone other than a Pohlad, which is was because they removed Jim and Joe, the financial executives would be gone. The personalities of Tom Pohlad and Falvey might be like oil and water and it took a month to figure that out.

Kopech and Kahnle may still be hoping for the 5+ million contracts. Kopech with incentives to reach that number would be a good idea. Not sure what his injury wa last year. Kahnle had a bad year, I think Detroit was using him for closer. It might not be what he is suited for

The business side of the Twins did not see the RSN collapse coming. There are all sorts of people on the business side in revenue projecting and revenue generating. All are most likely St Peter guys. If on the business side Falvey wanted to retrench and remove that might not sit well with St. Peter. Falvey lost the power struggle Correa was signed with the blessing of ownership. The money to pay him was anticipated by the revenue people. Lopez was extended by the same process. Owing Correa 10 mill is better than 30 mil. Again, an ownership decision. Why St Peter was not also mutually parted is a questioned that should be asked. Maybe that is going to happen. People here want to blame the player side of the business. The problem is on the other side.

2 of the 4 starters in the bullpen. One of the other 4 will leapfrog Adams. The other real possibility is what players they sign in the next 2 months. Adams and Raya from the list would be the DFA candidates unless they decide to remove another position player. When the price gets low enough there will be a couple ore signings.

The Twins Need a Different Strategy for Developing Players
old nurse commented on Paved Paradise's blog entry in On Target
An 88 mph fastball used to be considered a high velocity fastball. Times change, the game changes, some people never notice
