    I don’t know that anyone here is saying follow the Milwaukee blueprint but it has been an effective for at least getting into the playoffs 7 out of the last 8 years.     You forgot El Gasoline Funderbutk from the first half of the season who has given up only 2 ER since the trade deadline. Since the criteria is throw out the two worst games, Funderburk hasn’t given up a run.

    It is an outlier, but not such an outlier the clubs don’t pick up the DFA people. If you look, you will find the clubs do have out liars. Milwaukee has Isaac Collins, their outfielder who has put up over 2 WAR

    Did you even read what I was responding to? Players change teams and sometimes reach their ceiling. Rooker, Bader and even Clemens fit that description so it is not unreasonable to have players let go (traded for nothing, not resigned) do well later. This being Twins Daily, I thought I should include the other side of the DFA for a good reason example so somebody wouldn’t have there what about. Sorry that the flip side was an ambiguous term for you.

    Baseball trade values is for fantasy baseball trades to help those people determine a good trade. It really has nothing to do with baseball on the field. A mid rotation starting pitcher for a batter who is having a a below average season for a starting corner outfielder and a lottery ticket flies in the face of what you say a GM should do

    Joe Maddon was considered one of the best managers i baseball, he did not last 3 seasons with the Angels. Tom Kelly was considered a great managers, had 3 consecutive 90 loss seasons

    If you go back and look over the primary second basemen over the last 30 years you will find a sad tale. Fangraphs list only 250 as qualified. Their defensive war was based on UZR, it was all they had. SO a career WRC+ over 110 and a career dwar of over 4 produced only 6 players: Utley Pedroia, Zobrist, Marte McNeal, Kent and Alomar. A couple mor bad hitting season, McNeil falls off this list. If you are looking at 100 to 110 WRC you can add 18 more names. Above average offense and above average defense is close to unicorn status. What is competent defense as a measure still has not been identifies

    Maybe the Twins need to become like the Bananas. People go to a vaudeville sow and a baseball game breaks out. Cheap seats, cheap beer, cheap food just brigs out cheap people. That would be fine if the same people were happy with a cheap product on the field.

    WPA ca be such a useless stat. 9 runs, each was equally important for the victory, not all count the same in WPA. Without the first runs, the last have no WPA

    Interesting that the misconception gets repeated so many times that people believe it to be true. You can look at any pitcher other than SWR and see that the notion of twice through the order is false. It is ot even true for SWR when he was pitching well. Early on that may have seemed to be true but there is o way to have enough bullpen arms for just twice through the order. If you pay attention the established pitchers went through 100 pitches, the younger were 90. If it appeared they would go over that limit if they pitched a compete inning, they did not get to start the inning.

    Did you miss noticing that Stewart has not thrown many innings the last 5-6 years? Decent when available is far different than decent. Dealing a player when they still have a little value is better than paying for their medical bills. So is the return for Stewart a decent one? The chances of Outman being a regular starter are greater than Rayne Doncons’ chance of being a regular starter. If you can find a reliever who has pitched about to the same level of effectiveness as Stewart and as few of innings that was traded for more than an Outman type player or prospects that never saw the major leagues, let the world know . Puk was traded. He pitched about as effectively as Stewart and has similar numbers but has been healthier. Puk brought back 2 prospects. Will they be major leagues players? By the time the answer is known, the Miami fans will have forgotten about Puk. Do players get better in a different system? The team from West Sacramento has a history of players turning their career around. Harrison Bader certainly did better here than in his years in New York. The change of scenery lottery tickets might be a better play than low level prospects.

    Outman’s K% in his rookie year was 31 percent. Rooker’s first full season in Oakland he was at 32%. He is now down to 21%

    The defense and base running should be instilled in the players by the time they reach the major leagues. Most have been playing the game for 10 years by the time they reach the majors. Hitting is what brings the money so that is what they work on. For an almost bat only player hitting below what the average starter does, it is estimated that Larnach would get 4 million in arbitration. That is a great gig if you can get it.
