  1. So why would you like a trade for the Twins that would cost top prospects that would bring back a starter that isn't any good but costs money (Wade Davis type) and a player that you would just release (Elliot Johnson type)?
  2. good number of players on the list. No Twins
  3. I cannot think of a pitcher who went to San Diego for a year and resurrected a career.
  4. I would think it would be easier to stash someone on the AAA roster than the major league roster and not hurt their development. Might even be easier if they are a PCL affiliated AAA team. Polanco is not Everth Caberra.
  5. A little perspective. Attendance soared after the 2 WS years. Attendance crept up a little for Molitor's farewell tour. Attendance crept up during the winning years in the dome but was nothing like the WS years. Target Field sold out because it was the new toy much like Target Center for the Timberwolves years ago. When it comes to baseball the town supports a winner. .500 is not that.
  6. Shaving cream towels and Gatorade dumps are far different than what Incognito was doing.
  7. Boras will do everything and anything in his power to get his clients the most money and years. I would expect him to want a mega long mega rich contract. Again, all it takes is one GM to say yes. I don't think it will happen. 4 years at most.
  8. Butch Wynegar? http://www.baseball-reference.com/draft/index.cgi?team_ID=MIN&draft_round=2&draft_type=junreg&query_type=franch_round Aren't Eades and Melo the number 2 starters of the future? Is Goodrum the shortstop of the future? Chargois the closer of the future? Aren't 2 round picks useful in trades for player? Get something for a prospect you know isn't going to work before someone else realizes it?
  9. If the aggressive approach leads to a .500 kind of team with no large increase in the fans, what message with the fans have sent the Twins? Past history says that improving to .500 does not draw spectators.
  10. my recollection from past reading and from Forbes. The number stayed positive after 2004. I am sure some place has the stats. Remember the Pohlads have owned the team since 84. 88 and 92 were the only high attendance years in the first 16 years. Local media has never been a high revenue source for the Twins. It has been a more recent phenomenon for there to be a large national contract.
  11. When the Twins started winning a decade ago there was no jump in attendance like 87-88. That would temper the Pohlads who do not want to lose money. Yes the last few years they have made money, but pre Target they did lose a lot of money.
  12. The Pohlad's concerns comes before the fan's concerns for Ryan.
  13. Ryan traded for Barlett, his people drafted Garza. There should be no wonder why Ryan is interested in these players
  14. After 2000 innings or more I would think that would get you predictive stats and the real one near the same spot. In regards to the stat that shows the pitchers to be different, isn't that the one that said Cole DeVries was an ace?
  15. Can he frame the low pitch?
  16. There is nothing wrong with signing a good free agent pitcher. The problem is finding one. There is the cream at the top of pitcher list. After those few, how many have worked out? Of those that worked out, other than Colon, how many are number 1 or two starters except by default?
  17. By sentiment on the board, shouldn't that be an and not an or between the names? Actually for the risk it wouldn't be a top prospect for Pineda. I would guess more of a risk reward prospect
  18. In general you do not chase free agents to be the core of your team. When you need one to plug a hole you have 2 options. Less of a player for a shorter contract or more of a player with potentially downside at the end of the contract.
  19. If teams share information to keep costs down it is collusion. There is absolutely no other benefit to a team to otherwise share information.
  20. Sort of like when the people who complain that the Twins wanting Ortiz to be able to hit to left was a bad idea yet never looked at a hitting chart for Ortiz. Notice they don't shift for Ortiz.
  21. My thinking is that they are more concerned with how they get to the endpoint of a season stat than a season stat for a player. FIP may tell you that they pitched better or worse than their ERA says they did. FIP may tell you if you have a good pitcher. Paying Might even be useful in saying if they are a good pitcher or not. Paying closer attention to what happens when they throw the ball would be a better indicator. Does what they throw produce a GB % that can be sustained? Does what they throw lead to a lot of right field line drives which could lead to more HR at Target Field. That sort of situation and numerical ssesments are a lot more important than FIP.
  22. FIP and the like are mostly macro type stats. There is a ton of data available to teams on exactly what pitchers throw and outcomes. There is data on what pitches hitters hit and outcomes. From all of that there should be a norm on what is to be expected based on what any player is capable of doing. That is the level from which they start punching numbers. Fans get interested in the macro numbers as their way of judging talent. I think the FO judge individual skills and project results from that.
  23. Dalton Hicks. Long swing is mentioned. Will he be able to catch up to a major league fastball? See David McCarty's career.
  24. With the money now slotted it could have been a way different draft. The Red Sox would not have got Ranuado. Also of note, the Rays drafted the wrong Sale, not that they had a chance for Chris at the time
  25. Was the assistant GM asked if they rank pitching performances on a ratio based on home runs and walks given up as well as how many strikeouts the pitcher has? An assistant GM has no reason to go to fangraphs or any other internet statistics site. The more important issue than is how do they assess pitching. They aren't going to tell the fans what measures they use. I really doubt it is just w/l. Somewhere research had to have been done to come up with the philosophy of not walking hitters and be ahead in the count ( G.D. someone forgot to tell them about strike three ((silly icon here))). Can't remember where I saw it, but Wacha said that getting ahead of the hitters and not walking batters was the Cardinal way of pitching. Someone did some some research as the Twins are favoring taller pitchers.
