  1. I read somewhere that you shouldn't get rid of players who were top 50 prospects. Hang in there with them through the rough spots and they will be great.
  2. Arrietta is an example of the frailty of pitching. Speed is down. Command is down. GB% is down. OF defense behind him is worse than before hence making his numbers worse. Arrietta belongs in the discussion of trades because if they fall further behind the Brewers Arrietta is a free agent at the end of the year. Sell him and sign him is their MO. The Twins are not going to rent him, but somebody might.
  3. He was not viewed as an upgrade over Nolasco. I do not know if his fastball ever came back, but I wold be guessing not.
  4. It gets tricky with pitchers. Every team gets to send a rep. For starting pitch regardless Sale and Keuchel should be locks. Archer should be close. Reputations come into play , one of the Toronto pitchers and Indian pitchers by career. Then there are teams that somebody has to be sent. A Tiger and/or Athletic starter or reliever? What Ranger? Who on the Angels replaces Trout? Santana is far down the list.
  5. Since pitching in the World Series, Arrietta must now think he is back in Baltimore. It is the only 100% logical explanation for this year. Signing Arrietta would be great, but the team would have to hire a hypnotist to make him believe he was still pitching in the National league.
  6. Most anyone would trade Gordon for a number 2 starter. They cost more than a Gordon. A solid 4 costs more than Gordon
  7. Santana is having a career year. If he makes 200 IP next year or 400 IP this year and next he has another year on the contract. Regression to his average is as likely an outcome as continuing pitching like he has for the next 2 1/2 years. Montgomery has been high strikeout, league average pitcher who is likely to get better. The trade becomes 5 years of a starter with a maybe serviceable bullpen arm for 1-2 years of a starter who is on average slightly better. Not anywhere near an equal trade.
  8. Every GM in MLB baseball would make your proposed deal in a heartbeat except 1. Brian Cashman
  9. Archer would require much more than Gordon. Likely Gonsalves or Romero and a higher ranked prospect in A ball or lower like Diaz, Javier or Blankenhorn.
  10. Greg Holland slipped through ESPN's listing cracks as he was a free agent after the 2015 season. Albers and Pettit signed a minor league contracts, not a major league contracts. Blevins resigned with his same team and has more blown saves than any Twins reliever. The Twins have a left hander named Taylor Rodgers who does the same thing as Blevins. . Even at that, of the over 60 some relief pitchers signed to short term or minor league deals you can come up with 5 more. Hello, SIX having decent years. Odds of getting a difference maker short term are pretty slim. Or do you go into things thinking when less than 1/10 pan out that there are great odds for success? Uehera's stat line on espn was higher than 3 Why one should not trust espn. They have Eddie Rosario a the Twins third best reliever. Do you think they have him confused with Gimmenez? http://www.espn.com/mlb/team/depth/_/name/min/minnesota-twins
  11. http://www.mlbplayers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=34000&ATCLID=211078089 Sorry bout that. looked at both pages and copied the wrong URL It is unlikely that anything changed other than the length of stay. People will know when the union updates.
  12. Of the free agent relievers that signed major league contracts 2 years or less Drew Storen is the only one with an ERA under 3. There really wasn't a whole lot out there. You shouldn't let that change the narrative of want what turned out not performing. Any of them should be available for trade . Storen did not pitch so well for Toronto in a playoff race.
  13. You guys need to use your computers. It is called google. type mlb cba and this pops up http://www.mlbplayers.com/pdf9/4923509.pdf Starts on page 53 as numbered on the document. Page 66 on the PDF page counter
  14. So when you proclaim a trade is happening and it doesn't happen you are not wrong. Denial to preserve ego is funny
  15. They worked him out late. If they saw what they were looking for and a ballpark figure I think they are going to take him.
  16. Doumit brought back Gilmartin Abad brought back Light Rich Harden tried to come back Kendrys Morales brought back Stephan Pryor Willingham brought back Adams. That is about what he would have brought back at any point in his career. See Corey Broen and Henry Rodriguez Jamey Carroll brought back somebody named Cash. Tim Stauffer, Mike Pelfrey, Deduno and anybody else signed to play never got good enough for anyone to offer the Twins anything for them. Luhnow's trades netted what? Preception versus reality. Luhnow has been active, but not doing much more than shuffling bodies on rosters. I suppose some people would find that exciting, but he did not improve his team.
  17. Deleon and who else?
  18. It is neither a good start, nor a bad start. He did not lose the game, he did not provide anything to win it either. He ate up for innings of a game His WAR is 3 best for Twins starter but suffers from sample size At best he may have learned what not to do.
  19. My take away from some of the comments here and elsewhere would be to get a spin rate on a curve ball is like a god given talent. You can refine the mechanics of the pitcher to make it more consistent, but you can't teach how to throw it at 3000 rpm. FWIW and to confuse people http://www.minorleagueball.com/2017/3/1/14766552/2017-mlb-draft-profile-hunter-greene-rhp-sherman-oaks-california One of the well respected writers of minor league ball says his curve can be a plus pitch.
  20. iI think the team has about 20 million in cap room. So do they oerpay for a restricted free agent. Does an Otto Porter or Caldwell Pope make the Wolves a 50 win team? 11 players under contract plus Peckovic. 12 if the renew Shabazz. The only way I think Rubio should be traded to the Knicks is packages with the 7th pick for Porzingis. That is not going to happen unless a Kahn do type GM takes over to dismantle the team and do a Hinske.
  21. Because that is what the official scorer ruled it being.
  22. Nice heads up play http://m.mlb.com/cutfour/2017/06/11/235717186/jose-bautista-runs-to-second-on-walk-thanks-to-heads-up-baserunning
  23. Journyman used to describe a solid player that never found a home. Mike Korgan and Terry Muholland comes to mind. Todd Zeille is another. Journeyman minor league players were the ones you picked up to fill out the minor league roster to have a competitive team and to be a disaster plan for the mlb team. Yohan Pino for example. Turley is not the former and I don't think he was brought in to be the latter.
  24. Brad Hand was round 2, overall 52 pick by Miami perhaps is who you are thinking of.
  25. A lot of late round picks in 17 years Over 500 players drafted. The list of Twins players signed after being drafted after the 10th round is sparse. Rodgers, O"Rourke, Manship, Valencia, Achter and Valencia are the few that made it. It is no big deal to draft Minnesotans in the late rounds. Luke Gregerson, Sergio Romo, Kevin Kiermaier, Nyjer Morgan, Rajahal Davis, and the mow Twin Brandon Kinzler are the few that made much of a career after being drafted in the late rounds. Mostly bullpen arms.
