  1. I tried that, but it kept deleting everything johnnydakota said.
  2. Do you think we could get them to do our laundry for a year too?
  3. Not only do I disagree that the splits are permanent, but as I recall, he was doing abysmally against lefties in the early months of 2012, then average against lefties, and then pretty respectably as the months went on. That kind of improvement is expected if he is to regain his form. I think he will. Perhaps not to MVP-caliber, but if his head stays healthy in 2013, he should be back to the old-school power-threat Morneau and absolutely not a candidate to platoon.
  4. I think the real question is how quickly would some posters on TD throw the Twins' training staff under the bus if he were allowed to stay in the game after getting hit in the head. And then how quickly the Twins' training staff would get thrown under the bus if he doesn't recover quickly "enough" for those same posters' preferences. The schtick is getting old.
  5. Any indication what injury/how long he'll be out?
  6. Ha! ....Wait, what? Oh, the innuendo.
  7. I'm going to assume this is a mistake.
  8. What about Carroll? He's still under contract for next year.
  9. I agree with all of these things. If this is the direction they ended up going, I would be content.
  10. He's got Jurickson Profar breathing down his neck.
  11. Really? Mauer - 8 years, $23 million per Fielder - 8 years, $24 million per Other factors - Fielder hits for more power and is never hurt. And he's one of the few hitters who can approach Mauer's OBP. Mauer's a 1/2 time catcher now, and has a well-documented injury history. I think I'd rather have Fielder's contract. It's nice that he's never been hurt, but he's already a cheeseburger away from 400 pounds and with a long-term deal to boot. This will not end well for the Tigers. Joe will age gracefully, getting on base with sweet swinging singles until he's 40 years old. Prince will catch gout.
  12. First off, it helps if you draft a guy like Verlander. He was a #2 overall like Buxton, so maybe we're onto something there. On the other hand, the Marlins did get completely trade-raped on Cabrera, so I guess we can't emulate the Tigers just by sucking for high draft picks. On the other hand, while getting to the World Series is great, I think they've crippled their future by getting rid of a lot of their best prospects (their farm team is in shambles), and they've definitely paid way too much for whatever remaining years Prince Fielder has (2, maybe 3?) before types 2, 3, and 4 diabetes set in. I wouldn't advocate copying that part.
  13. Am I the only one who thinks that Liam Hendriks has a decent shot to reach at least some of his potential next season? Granted, his potential isn't "ace," but I think he can be a very solid go-to guy who is cheap as hell for the next few years. Maybe my eyes were lying to me, but it seems like (in 2012) he was getting completely shelled every time he trotted out there early in the year, then later in the year, he would go a few great innings and then get shelled, and then late in the year he actually strung some pretty good 6-9 inning stretches together, including his complete game heartbreaker. It's not that I'm happy with how "quickly" he's progressed in the majors this year, but it does seem like he has done some progressing. Also, I apologize if this is a little off-topic, as he's not really a prospect anymore, per se.
  14. It's his thing. He ignores facts, Thrylos makes them up. The Twins Daily version of Romney/Ryan! Politics-injector always is the loser of the point in question. Holy crap. I agree with jokin. Who knew? Seriously "gunnarthor." That comment was a massive fail.
  15. I'm happy about Pinto and Romero. The others are gravy, but I like those two a lot.
  16. It's better than 5 months of bitching about 5 months of this type of thread...
  17. I really hope people are paying attention to this kind of thing. The fact is that confirmation bias and negativity domination rule the narratives we tell ourselves about baseball players. This holds probably moreso for baseball players given that a very good hitter doesn't get a hit 7 out of 10 times. Mauer is a dominant player. But back to the topic at hand. I think it's also correct to say that Mauer doesn't fit that well on a rebuilding team. If the Twins are going to blow it up and start over, they don't have a real use for Mauer. I don't think anyone who gets it really thinks that that is the best course of action (and yes, you know who you are), and so the best course of action is to build around Mauer with free agency, trades, etc. But you always listen to what's on offer.
  18. This.
  19. Oh, and if anyone is still bitching about getting a pitcher and a slick fielding middle infielder in trade for a few months of 5.5 ERA Liriano, you need to give up now. The Twins were lucky to get anything beyond a bag of balls and/or Ozzie f-ing Guillen for that waste of talent.
  20. If Liriano is a good pitcher, how come he never pitches like... ya know... a good pitcher? Seriously. Dude sucks. He has since 2006, one fluke year notwithstanding (and even then he wasn't that great). This is like asking whether we want to bring back Joel Zumaya. No thanks.
  21. 1. Most were justifiably making fun of his clear illiteracy. 2. I don't really think we should have to justify this kind of thing with a response. 3. Baseball contracts are guaranteed.
  22. He's like Charlie from Always Sunny. "I've been meaning to speak to you about this. I can't read these words. They're not in the right order." "I'll read the words you wrote. "Hello fellow American. This you should vote me. I leave power. Good. Thank you, thank you. If you vote me, I'm hot. What? Taxes, they'll be lower... son. The Democratic vote is the right thing to do Philadelphia, so do." This doesn't make any sense!"
  23. That fails to account for what the Mets were able to get out of Dickey, immediately, inserting him as one of their starters coming out of the gate in 2010. The Mets obviously saw a lot more in working with, and developing Dickey, and understanding the evolution of knuckleball mastery than in trying to acquire just more mediocrity in guys like Blackburn and Duensing. Yeah, his crappy record as a Twin fails to account for how he did with the Mets. Granted, that was in the future at the time you were supposed to have know about it. Don't you know you should have a crystal ball?
  24. Another 2 year PDC, eh?
  25. He's our Trojan Horse. I'm proud of him.
