  1. Beresford has played, um, 4 games at SS this year. At AA. I believe Escobar is going to AAA to get some playing time and hone his skills at SS. From what I've read he is a really fun guy to have around and I suspect they intend to have him back. Arcia has 88 AB in AAA. The pitching there is better than AA and many of the pitchers he will face have MLB experience. He can get his swing back and rejoin the club in September. Plus it will get us another year of control. I believe these were factors in the decision to send him down. I'm OK with that. Colabello earned another shot at MLB pitching. Good for him. Oddly enough, I believe that Bernier is up because he is unlikely to ever be a regular MLB player, utility or otherwise. This move is toward grooming Escobar for that.
  2. I have never understood the hype over Nick Castellonos. It's not that he couldn't be a very good player one day, maybe even a star, but his numbers in AA weren't all that intimidating and his numbers in AAA are below those of Arcia, Colabello, Bigley, Richardson and Clete Thomas. I believe you have to pull the trigger if offered a lot, but some of these guys seem like they have reputations that they have yet to earn.
  3. Anyone who missed this article nicksaviking referred to should check it out. My favorite line was: The ESPN Home Run Tracker has no record of Ben Revere existing.
  4. Our number one need is pitching. So we trade away a pitcher who has shown significant improvement in the past year? To what end? I vote no. Keep him.
  5. Riverbrian has the inside scoop. At least the Twins are answering the phone. This should be interesting....
  6. There was a point where Aaron Hicks stopped looking like he was getting beat and started looking like he was beaten before the pitch was thrown. It was really ugly for a while. I realize he isn't tearing up the league now, but he looks again like he thinks he belongs at the plate. That defeated look is what Arcia is sporting right now. Terrible at bats. I remember reading that Bruno was specifically working with Hicks to get him to relax. Shortly after that Hicks started to hit. Hope he can do that with Arcia. The kid has a huge upside. IMO, way more (offensively) than Hicks.
  7. My thought was that Fien is just a really good pitcher that we should hang on to. Those BABIP rates are amazing and, I agree, cannot be sustainable. Good points, thry.
  8. Absolutely no argument from me, ThePuck. And no question Gomez had some issues that only some maturity were going to help. While jokin questions the statistical significance of the data he had, it does seem to be a pretty consistent trend.
  9. Just saw data from a post by jokin on another thread: I'll try to get permission from jokin some other time. (the guy can't double space for s**t)
  10. It appears to me that there may be something is amiss in the Twins coaching staff. I understand Dickey. With Gomez there was clearly talent there that it took someone else to nurture. Maybe Anderson, et al, have been great. We will never know how the past would have been different. My questions: are there more Twins who left MN and had much poorer results elsewhere or are there more Twins who left here and had excellent seasons? How many? Do players leave their former teams, come to MN and suddenly thrive? How many? Please leave examples. Double spaced. You have 2 hours. Go.
  11. I like the optimism, but the point you were making is actually stronger to me, as I would be shocked if any of those players sees MLB before September, 2014. Oh, yeah, and I really like Jeremy's point about Chris Colabello. That would be great!
  12. Can't see anyone trading anything of value for Morneau the way he's hitting lately. You trade Plouffe and who is your RH power hitter? I'd hate to see Perkins go. OK, I lack imagination. These are engaging scenarios. It will be interesting to see if anything happens. Edit: and you should have had a link to Part 1. Thanks
  13. That made me laugh. He is an OF with a sub .800 OPS in 4 years of AAA ball. Does not occur like a game changer. Are our minor league teams short on OF?
  14. On other threads I see comments suggesting that Sano and Buxton will be on the MLB roster next year. I have even read comments that Sano may be called up this September. I find these ideas to be ridiculous. Sano is very young. Give him some time. And stop pretending he is MLB ready when he clearly is not. Patience, my brothers (and sisters). All in good time.
  15. Over the last few years the fans have clamoured for Vavra to be let go and finally Terry Ryan made it a reality after the 2012 season. So what did that change do for the Twins? The team is hitting worse than ever and yet I have not heard a single utterance of getting rid of Brunansky. So why is no one complaining about the job that Bruno is doing as the hitting coach for a team that claims that they are only interested in results? It seems like a pretty fair number of Twins players have left the Twins and gone on to hit better for other teams. (Hunter, Bartlett, Ramos, Cuddyer at age 34?) Is Bruno perfect? No. Is he better than Vavra? I'm willing to give him some rope to play with. This is only year one.
  16. I appreciate the rating of offense (9) and defensive (2) being the same as offensive (2) and defense (9). Your pitching staff, however, does not. This can be a really big deal to a group of players most of whom have a screw loose already. (this coming from a former catcher)
  17. Perkins offers us something we really appreciate right now; an excellent chance to win games we lead going into the ninth inning. Detroit has some horrible numbers from their bullpen. No wonder they might pay heavily for Perkins. The downside is that Perkins then plays for the Tigers. I know many feel the closer role is overrated. However, how bad would our record be without Glen? With Perkins embracing available wisdom from the likes of Maddux and the study of SABR stats, etc., he is clearly committed to improving. He could be really good for a long time. Another team would have to make us an offer we couldn't refuse.
  18. A sobering point and one we need to keep in mind. Sano and Buxton, along with Rosario, have many Twins fans excited. Me, too. Still, they are a long way from MLB. Patience, fans, patience.
  19. Interesting thread idea. With May, Meyer, Albers, et al coming along it seems very much a long shot. Too bad. Part of rooting for teams and getting too involved is feeling sad for these kids who work their ass off to fulfill a childhood dream, only to fall just short. Tough. I, of course, never got anywhere near as close as they did, but I suspect they will find that to be of little consolation.
  20. Great breakdown. Thank you. 2004 was the toughest for me. The Twins scored runs. Plenty of them. It was probably not as frustrating for me as it was for Joe Nathan.
  21. We can't be sure that something like this isn't being used by one of the MLB teams. During the discussion of who should be the AL MVP last year, an Oakland exec said that their stats had Cabrera leading Trout by a tiny margin. Pretty sure they were not overly influenced by RBI. Fun stuff.
  22. Can you even imagine the vitriol on this site had Albers been called up instead of Gibson? Sometimes the name means more than it should. Hope to see Albers before the year is out.
  23. It's been the same as asking for ridicule here to suggest that Sano has a long way to go. Maybe that is being taught to everyone right now. As talented as he is, he is facing tough pitching by older, more seasoned professionals. Good! Make him work for it. If he is the man we hope he is, it will only make him stronger.
  24. Aaron Hicks and Chris Parmelee are near the top of the list for most Web Gems this season. If your link starts with 'file://localhost/' it is not a valid URL. Really enjoy the recap. Thank you
