  1. Apparently he was put there just so that we could be reminded of what some AAAA 1B play like. I like the Colabello story, hope he does well, but that was brutal.
  2. Let me answer all your questions before they close the thread. 1. Shane Wahl is right. We should trade Justin and give Colabello & Parmelee some more at bats to see what they have. 2. Old Nurse is right that we may never get the production out of either of them that we can get from Justin. 3. Everyone is wrong who wants to even consider a 3 year contract for Justin. The team has to protect itself regarding the concussion issue. Two years at the most, 1 year with an option would be ideal. 4. Stop trying to move Sano to 1B. Even ESPN guys say that if he cannot cut it at 3B it would be wrong to hide his awesome arm at 1B. He could move to RF. 5. All those who say that we should upgrade the 1B position seem to forget that Justin is among the best Twins hitters. That means that we have at least 5 (?) other positions that need an upgrade worse than 1B, along with several pitchers. There. I'm tired.
  3. This is true. No argument from me. That's why I stated: Want to sign a really good 1B? Great! Failing that, however, we have issues at 1B. That is true whether we sign Morneau or not.
  4. I gotta say Willihammer, you keep us posted on your guy. Short and to-the-point updates. Thank you.
  5. Morneau currently has the second highest BA on our team. He has the fifth highest OBP. He has the third highest SLG%. That combo gives him the third highest OPS on our team. Unless Parmelee and Colabello are going to get much, much better we are better off with Morneau. Want to sign a really good 1B? Great! Failing that, Morneau is still one of our better hitters.
  6. September 30,2008 - Blackburn starts game 163 for the Twins against the White Sox. The one or two hits he gave up in 7 1/3 innings included, of course, that HR by Thome. It was a gallant effort. He certainly pitched well enough to win. Sadly, that was pretty much the highlight of his career. Great game.
  7. IMO, Dozier has been the most pleasant surprise of all the position players this year. I like the props he gave to Jamie Carroll. Obviously he listened to Bruno. Seems to have the right attitude to support success. Good for him and good for the Twins!
  8. Nice article, Fluffy. Are you old enough to remember Dan Gladden? He still hangs around chasing, I don't know, quotes or something.
  9. And the Senators (before they became the Twins) lost over 90 games each season from 1955-1959. Five years! (OK, I don't really remember those years. Had to post it, though.)
  10. Very nice article. I wonder if Bill James has anything to do with the way fielding is valued these days. There are probably guys at those MI positions who may not have had the chance 30 years ago because they didn't hit. Were teams more forgiving of poor range/poor arms because they had a guy who could hit?
  11. Not really sure what this is about. Morneau September/October 2006: .345/.397/.487 (.884) Not his best month's split from that year, but it's not like he mailed it in.
  12. MLB minimum is probably over $500,000 for 2014, so there's your first problem. Easily fixed, of course. I wonder if an agent would allow this. Were I an agent given a talent like Sano, I would want the player to sign something that assured his financial independence, but would be wary of going too far into potential FA years. Mauer's first contract was perfect. He got enough to live the rest of his life on, even if he is injured. The Twins locked up a great talent for 4 years at a good price. No telling what the market might be by the time Sano is 30. Interesting scenario.
  13. You just click on these every day. Then you would have slash line data and lots more. Miguel Sano Byron Buxton
  14. Thank you for the article. Lots of information. I believe something significant must come to pass before Danny is our 'franchise shortstop'. All the best to him.
  15. AAA pitchers are better than AA pitchers. That's why they are in AAA and the AA pitchers are in AA. Many of them have been in MLB and are trying to get back there. They are savvy, tricky, many of them pitch intelligently. Good enough, in fact, to have pitched in MLB and/or have attained a roster spot in AAA. I like the idea of Sano proving that he can rock AAA pitching before we 'bring him up for good'. Cannot see a scenario where he starts at 3B in April next year. I would not object to a September call up this year, but the 40 man roster thing is an issue, as Seth points out.
  16. A lot of work Thry. Thank you. I have been impressed ever since someone (I cannot remember who, but someone with some credentials) said that Sano's upside was Miguel Cabrera. Big fun coming our way!
  17. This should be interesting... If Justin can go to a contender and the Twins can finish the year with Colabello and Parmelee at 1B maybe they could learn something. And wouldn't it be sweet to see Justin get a ring?
  18. I find that comment unsettling. Not sure of the context, but if it was about Albers and his debut, well, I hope he tries to do that every time.
  19. Really? That is wild. Imagine some kid a few years from now looking through records and finding that one. He or she would probably think, "Wow, I bet those 2013 Twins were quite the sluggers". That makes me grin.
  20. The bidding for Cliff Lee was made pretty public by his agent. IIRC he had higher offers from both the Rangers and the Yankees before signing with Philly. It happens, especially when the player is a little older.
  21. I agree with the SS talk. I like Florimon, but with Carroll gone we now have no one other than the 33 year old Bernier to back him up. Escobar and Beresford have to spend some time there. (maybe Plouffe, too? Sometimes that makes sense, sometimes that thought scares me) Also, I have been a big Rosario fan. If Dozier keeps posting an OPS > .800 I don't see how Rosario sneaks into a starting role at 2B unless Dozier moves to another position. It is not written in stone that Rosario will be better than what Dozier is turning into.
  22. Twins need to look at Florimon, Dozier, Escobar, Beresford, etc. Carroll gets a shot at a post-season. Good for him. Thanks Jamie.
  23. In 2008 Denard Span joined the Twins in Chicago and got his first hit. Standing at first base Span was approached by Paul Konerko. "Was that your first major league hit?", he asked. "Yeah", says Span. Konerko shook Span's hand and said, "I'm sure it's the first of many. Congratulations". Telling the story later Span said, "Wow. Paul Konerko!" Konerko is a classy guy. How he wound up on the White Sox is unclear, but I'm sure it's not his fault.
  24. Who are you and what did you do with Jack?
