Is shock to me, however, understand he hasn't been the hitter we all hoped for. Was at the games in Pittsburgh this past weekend with my son, who lives in Columbus. A young man was sitting next to him on Saturday. Turned out he played high school baseball with AK (was their shortstop), who grew up in the Pittsburgh area. Was an interesting conversation. For example I didn't realize that AK played center, first and pitcher in high school. Although I suspect a high percentage of all major league position players did some pitching in high school. Count me among those who are hopeful Martin is the player returning. Expect we will see him playing some second base until someone steps up and claims that spot...thinking of you Mr. Lee.

Twins Minor League Report (6/11): Kernels Pop Off Lugnuts
roger replied to Steve Lein's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
With us entering the normal rainy season in Florida, really wish they would move Jenkins up to Cedar Rapids so he could play, every day. Other than that, what caught my eye today was where certain players were playing. Martin at second with Julien at first caused me to check my glasses. Also saw that Keaschall was in center field. What wasn't a surprise was that Lee was at shortstop. Really expect to see him playing a lot of second base, hmmmmm?- 12 replies

Don't disagree with much of what you said, JD. But cannot understand your and other comments about the payroll. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but don't the White Sox have the largest payroll in the Central Division? By a lot? And don't the Guardians, Royals and Tigers all have payrolls smaller than the Twins? But you hit it on the nail when talking about the ineffective starting pitchers. With Diamond sports still in bankruptcy court and Comcast no longer paying for their games there is a real chance that Bally doesn't make it thru the season. So here we are in early June and the Twins still aren't certain what their TV revenue will be. Expect I may be in the minority, but I sure as heck can understand why they put restrictions on spending this year. Hopefully, come opening day 2025 MLB will finally have put together the broadcasting program they have talked about for several years. If not, don't know whether any of us will see games next year. Or maybe even want to see them.

What is most interesting is that the Rockies are drawing over 6,000 more fans a game compared with the Twins. Denver/Colorado is a great baseball town with terrible teams seemingly forever.

Unless the Twins can win a big majority of the 8 games remaining with the Tribe, nothing written above will matter. Considering they are 0-5 to date, that may be asking too much. As for who has the better team, good question. I love how they play the game. Reminds me a bit of the old paranas from back in Gardy's day. Loved that team and style of ball.

Highlite for me today was seeing the youngest Acuna playing for the FCL Twins. Recall he had a fantastic year in the DSL two years ago before being not so good last year in the FCL as a 17 year old. Good seeing him off to a great start this year. See he came back yesterday after being out for a month or so. Does anyone know what injury he was out with? And does anyone have a clue how he is in the field at shortstop?

It is so good seeing Jenkins' name in these reports. Also seeing Lee will be equally exciting. Now we need to start seeing Canterino and Priellip and all will be good!

Best report of the year, Ted. Royce is healthy and will be with the Twins in NYC. Jenkins is healthy and will be back with the Fort Myers team tomorrow. Hoooorah!

Sure is the right decision, at least in my opinion. Julien needs to learn what Arraez did so well, ie, foul off close pitches when he has two strikes until he gets one he can whack. Kid can have a great career. But it ain't gonna happen if he keeps watching strike three. And now, let the race begin to see who wants the Twins 2025 second base job the most, Julien or Lee?

Hated losing Miller. But will Doncon end up being the better player? Trade looks a lot better considering Margot as a throw in.

Solutions for the Twins’ Slumping Sophomores
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Julien's defense improved over the year and is now acceptable. His problem is unlike Arraez, who fouls off close pitch after close pitch until he either hits one or gets a walk, Julien stands there and watches close pitches get called strike three before walking back to the dugout. Until he begins doing something other than watching, pitchers are gonna continue to strike him out. If he can change, he will likely become a solid big league second baseman. If he doesn't, he may have a short career.- 11 replies

Luke Keaschall is a Chance for Twins to Make Reds Trade Right
roger replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
OK, Ted, what does Keaschall doing well have to do with the Reds/Mahle trade? Granted, not having ECS and Steer around makes it easier for him to reach the Twins. But they could have been dealt in another deal with a better lasting return to the Twins. For disclosure sake, I wasn't opposed to the trade when they made it other than I don't like trading a lot of our prospects. Just wish like heck they would do a better job of kicking the tires when acquiring pitchers to make bloody sure their arms aren't falling off.- 33 replies

Another great game Saturday from Lee and Jenkins. Lee was 3-4 with a walk. Jenkins was 2-5. Lee was at shortstop and Jenkins the DH. Both had one strikeout. Would think its getting close to time that both move up.

Fantastic game for Lee and Jenkins. Jenkins going 2-3 with a double, triple, walk and 3 RBI sure seems like he is ready to move across the parking lot. What I found interesting is that Lee was at third base. Expect both will be at their expected spots in ten days or so, ie, Lee at St. Paul and Jenkins at Cedar Rapids.

Will second Docs comment above hoping to see Priellip back next year. Also hoping to see Canterino later this year. Just checked the box score and see that Jenkins was 2 for 3 with a walk today. The two hits were a double and triple. Lee also had two hits, including a double. The two did most of the scoring for the Twins, who won 4-2. Continue being optimistic with my wishes to see Lee with the Twins later this year and Jenkins late next year.

Twins Minor League Report (5/21): Morris Makes Double-A Debut
roger replied to Steve Lein's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Add me to the list of those who are ecstatic that Lee and Jenkins are both back playing. And on the same day, hooorah! Is there time for Lee to play enough and work his way up to the Twins by late this season? I continue to believe that he is this organization's long-term answer at second base.- 24 replies

Did the Twins Give Up on Brent Rooker Too Soon?
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
20-20 hindsight is always pretty darn good. Liked Rooker when he was here, including all the warts. Seems the Twins have needed a big right handed bat forever. Now I don't know how he hits lefties, assuming he does he would fit nicely in their current lineup. But at the time, I didn't dislike the trade. Have always felt that Paddack could be a very good starting pitcher and we are now seeing that to be true. As far as guys traded away who are doing very well, there are lots of them. Check the box scores every morning and see that Rortvedt has been playing about half the games for Tampa and was hitting over .300 until a couple days ago. I recall his D was very good, so that's one I was very sad to see go. After a much injured season in New York, Ben has become the player many of us thought he would be. As this is an article that really is about judging the Front Office's trading acumen, my concerns are more related to their inability to understand the risk related to bringing in injured pitchers. Seems it began with that reliever from the Giants at the trade deadline a few years ago and continued with Mahle, Maeda, Paddack and the recent Polanco trade. Their inability to stay away from damaged goods seems to me to be an organizational problem that needs fixing. Am of the opinion that they would have been better off holding out for a good prospect starting pitcher who was close in the Polo trade rather than four guys who may never play an inning for the Twins.- 44 replies

I keep checking box scores every day hoping to see one of the top prospects back playing. Imagine my disappointment when seeing Lee’s name at Ft. Myers and learning it isn’t Brooks. Bah Humbug!

Saw ERod had a home run, so I clicked on the box score and saw he was 1-3 with two walks and one K. Thought two walks versus one strikeout was interesting, so went looking deeper into his year-to-date stats. See that in 131 PA he has struck out 39 times. That's a bit high (just under 30%), but not as bad as some. Then saw he had 35 walks and thought, WOW, that's almost one walk for every strikeout. Yes, this young man has an OBP of .466. So he gets on base nearly one-half of the time, which I like...alot. Continue to believe that this young man just might be special. And if he can get his K rate down just a bit, he just might solve the question of who the Twins should be playing in left field as early as next season.

Glad seeing Buxton back in center field for the Saints, Seth. Although 0-3 with two K's indicates he is a bit rusty. Do you think he will be with the Twins in Cleveland Friday? Or will he spend the weekend getting a few more at bats with the Saints? See ERod got a couple hits for Wichita, including a triple. He has a nice .998 OPS. Do you see him spending the entire year at AA? Or is he likely to move up to the Saints so he is more ready to join the Twins in 2025?

David Festa is an MLB-Ready Top 100 Prospect
roger replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
The sad part of this report is that Povich was the second best strikeout pitcher. He is the guy who once was a Twin? -
Tough game for Castro last night. Catch that ball in the first inning and two Yankee hitters don't come to bat. That changes the game going forward. Also would be 9 less pitches thrown by Paddach. And Buxton catches that ball in the fourth inning without any problem. That's two less runs. Yes, Castro has been a fine utility player, but not last night. As for Martin. Really like what he has done and will do in the future. But I believe he needs a good part of the summer playing left and center in St. Paul. He can be a special offensive weapon, just needs some time learning in AAA. Expect that move will happen later this week when Buxton comes off the IL.

Keep seeing Doncon's name in these reports and knew nothing about him. Checked and see that he came along from the Dodgers with Margot in the Miller trade. Interesting. Other than he is young, 20, and he was just acquired from the Dodgers, still no nothing else. Kid seems to be hitting very well. Does anone have more information about this young prospect?

Eduardo Escobar Trade Turned Into a Coup for Minnesota
roger replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not disagreeing that that in hindsight that is a tough trade to swallow. But take a look at how that duo is hitting this year, although the year is only approaching a quarter done. Steer is decent, although nothing like last year. And after getting regular playing time the first month or so, CES hasn't been in the lineup much the past week or two and is hitting well under .200. Can they both recover as the year moves on, certainly. But especially CES is having some serious problems.- 28 replies
