  1. I recall the tv guys talking to Ryan during one of the brewer games. He mentioned something about going back to Cali, surfing, etc. Also said he would have to be careful cause he was starting Friday. Is it possible he did some activity which affected his prep for or stamina during the game? Could Rocco keeping him out there been a lesson to a young pup?
  2. Do you realize what you said, “and just leave him there for the rest of the season?” It is forbidden that a Twin, any Twin, should ever hit in the same spot of the lineup for a week, much less a season. Thinking back to those Braves teams I grew up with, I would guess that Aaron hit third and Matthews fourth for years, not just weeks.
  3. Watched most of the two games versus the Brewers. Didn't watch last night as those west coast games are just too late. Kind of glad I didn't. What have we learned over the past three games? I believe it only confirmed that the Twins are a ways from being a legit contender for a long playoff run. Should Buxton be injured and go on the IL, any hope of winning a weak division becomes a dream. Should the FO make some moves over the next three days, certainly. But they all should be smaller moves that will help the team in 2023 and beyond. Maybe a good, young reliever? Maybe a young catcher who can compete with Jeffers in 2023?
  4. Thanks for these interviews, Ted, they help us get to know these kids a bit better. When drafted, I thought he might have had his surgery recently. See from reading above it was over a year ago, so he should be ready to get on the field this week. With high school kids you never know which one is going to turn out to be special. Maybe for the Twins it will be Omari Daniel?
  5. With Beckham hitting north of .400 for the Saints, he deserves a shot back in the big leagues. Considering two of the Twins best players also play second base, it ain’t gonna happen with the Twins. Seems like a perfect time to include him in a trade for some of that pitching the Twins need. would also open a spot to move either E-S or Julien up to the Saints, which would open a spot in Wichita to move Severino up from the Kernel’s. That would give him a month at AA for the Twins to decide whether he merits a 40-man spot come November.
  6. Perhaps the two biggest stories the past month or so have been Acuna heating up and Urbina following his late arrival. Long ways off, but both could be Twins one day. Took note of FlyingFinn's comment above about relievers. When we play the Brewers, Orioles, Detroit or most teams it seems they have numerous good relievers. Considering the Twins now draft about 20 kids each year and sign another 20 for the DSL, it is mind blowing that they can't find one very good relief prospect every year. Their current bullpen has one, maybe two if you include Jax, that you can count on day after day. Would include Alcala, if he were healthy. But two of those came in trades. Where are the drafted/signed players from say 2010 thru 2018? There sure as heck should be more than one.
  7. Could not agree more, Nick, with your premise that the Twins should not go all in as they have too many needs to realistically make a run this fall. Other than low cost moves for a reliever and backup catcher rental, any moves should help for 2023 and beyond. Have no interest in getting into specific players as I suspect I will know little or nothing about whomever the Twins bring in over the coming days. I will say, however, that I am not high on Syndergaard or trading Povich. Ever since watching Seth's interview of this kid last winter, I have a feeling that he just might end up being good, very good.
  8. Thanks for the recap, Jeremy. Appeared on draft day that many of the guys drafted 4-10, were selected higher than rated by the various sources. Expect that was done to have the dollars to go over slot on the top two. Strategy worked and couldn’t be happier with the first two signed, sealed and delivered. I am hopeful that Prielipp becomes the Twins version of Chris Sale and is pitching at Target Field late next year. One question on the dollars for Prielipp. Saw I think in the first tweet about his signing that his slot was $1,622,000 or so. With them well under, it no longer makes a difference unless they want to take a run at one of the last two.
  9. Thanks a lot 2wins87, really appreciate it. Was able to find the draft tracker and depending on the difference between Prielipp's tweet and the amounts listed as slot they appear to be less than $400k over. Assuming neither of the catchers taken 11 and 12 are over $125k, they should be able to get the overage down to minimal or even under the pool when all the bonuses become known. With that said, very interesting draft. Personally see the top two picks as two young men who can make a difference several years down the road...a big difference. I will restate what I said the other day that I remain hopeful that Prielipp becomes the Twins version of Chris Sale. Don't have a clue about the rest of the group taken between the fourth and tenth rounds, but if one or two someday plays in the big leagues that isn't all that different than had they drafted players ranked around where they picked. Thanks again for the road map on how to find this information. Would also like to comment that I am shocked that Prielipp signed for less than $2M. Considering how highly he was thought of pre-injury, believed it would take more than $2M, way more, to get him signed. On the other hand, Tomah is so close to the Twins Cities and more than $1.8M in his checking account is sure as heck nice for a 21 year old kid...you know the old "bird in the hand" theory.
  10. Exciting day seeing both Enlow and SW-R back on the hill for Wichita, with solid results. Also great seeing some production from two former first round picks, Sabato and Cavaco, following their more than disappointing beginnings to their careers. Likewise, great seeing Acuna hitting very well down in the DSL after a rough first month or so. Saw in the Strib that 16 of the Twins 19 draft picks have signed. The only three that haven't were the Alabama pitcher taken in the 19th round and the two high school kids drafted late. Didn't comment on who received what bonuses or if the Twins were over their dollar pool. Its a bit disappointing that the Draft Tracker here at Twins Daily went away the other day and we can't find this information on Twins Daily...or at least I can't find it.
  11. Why don't we all sit back, watch the Twins play this next week, and then look forward. Correa will either be here or he won't. If he isn't, expect we will see lots of articles about X deal. Those articles will then be worth reading.
  12. I would disagree with one point, Cody. Rather than the word 'might' in your title, I would replace it with 'should'. Or if allowed to use more than one word as a replacement, would insert, 'damn well better.' I don't know who should be traded as I like all the guys you mention. Hopefully, a few of the non-pitchers are highly respected and will bring a good return. Expect they also could/should include Sano in one of those deals, you know with the Twins retaining most/all of his salary and buyout.
  13. Sounds like they have agreed to a number. Now the Twins have work to do to have that amount available. With a total pool of just over $10M, they can go over by roughly $500k before losing draft picks kick in. Of the three signings listed, they are about $183,000 over. So if they are going to pay him over $2M, they have a lot of work to do. But it is great knowing they have agreed to a number. I remain hopeful that this young man will turn into the Twins version of Chis Sale. You know, a tall college lefty with a couple knee buckling pitches who rockets thru the system arriving with the big club late next year. We can dream, can’t we?
  14. Looking at the Saints box score today got me thinking about Jermaine Palacios. I was impressed with his defense in his brief callup with the Twins. He continues to hit around .270+/-, which combined with better than average D makes him a legit future big league shortstop. Maybe not a starter for a contending team, but certainly someone who is competent and won't be a hole in the batting order. As the Twins FO looks forward to 2023, I expect that if Correa opts out they will go with Lewis as his replacement. I also suspect they are comfortable with Palacios handling the job until Lewis is ready to return, whether that be in May or July. Palacios certainly had value in Tampa's eyes when they took him in return for Odorizzi. Twins got a huge break when he struggled while with Tampa, was released and signed back with the Twins. Should pay big dividends if he is in fact their starting shortstop on opening day.
  15. Tough day for several of the top pitchers, Balazovic, Varland and Povich. Biggest concern has to be Balazovic. Jmlease above discusses significant concerns about the former top prospect. What I find exciting this year is the play of the DSL Twins. After a brutal 2021 season when they were very young, this team is now 10 games over .500. Best of all, I counted six batters hitting over .300 in a league that historically has few .300 hitters.
  16. Aren't you a couple weeks early in doing this analysis, Cody? Doesn't make sense to even talk about Priellip until he is signed. If the kid really is good enough to have been considered top 10 in the draft, the Twins may not have the $$$ to get him signed. I hope like heck that they have had enough of a conversation and know that he will sign for $2.something. But considering he wasn't expected to drop as far as he did it is unlikely those talks would have gone too far. A top 10 pick in 2023 might be what, $5M or a lot more. So until he is signed, doesn't make a lot of sense to include him in any ranking. As for Balazovic, I just don't understand what the heck is wrong this year. For a good part of last year he was unhittable. Then he wasn't and struggled later in the summer. With his injuries and ups and downs, don't have a clue what his future holds. He may become an absolute ACE, or he may never throw a pitch in the big leagues. Bloody disappointing if you ask me. Hopefully, there will be a couple of the guys we are talking about gone by the trade deadline. Combined with the unknown surrounding Priellip and it makes a lot of sense to me to talk about his after August 2. [edit. I hope I my concern is proven wrong and you post news about Priellip signing later today.]
  17. How many years have we been reading about the Twins trading for Thor? Whether it is during the offseason or at the deadline, seems to be forever. And look what he has become? Not worth a heck of a lot and I for one wouldn't touch him at any cost. Another great example of why most of the trades for top of the line pitchers aren't a good deal for the acquiring or signing team in free agency. Got a feeling our FO agrees, which is why we don't see them giving the long-term deals most people want to pitchers. There are bloody few Justin Verlander's out there, and he even took a year off recently. But I can't believe what he is doing now that he is back.
  18. Seems that almost every time out, I find myself asking why he doesn't get more innings. Then the next day he is sent back to St. Paul. Why? I would like to see this kid stay in the Twins pen as a second lefty and get the experience he needs to be a solid reliever next year and beyond.
  19. What a fantastic outlook for someone as young as he is. Really impressed, and will second Dman's comment that I too wanted the Twins to take a catcher, or two, high in the draft. Maybe good things do come to those who wait and the Twins may have waited ten rounds to get the right man.
  20. Great seeing them get the top pick signed and I for one was fearful it was going to require more than $75k over to get it done. Now they can get to work signing all those guys in the top 10 rounds to pick up the dollars it is going to cost to get the pitcher from Tomah signed. Hopefully, a bit over $2M will get it done.
  21. Thanks for the report, Andrew. Will double down on the above comments about Williams and catching, in general. With the catching situation for the Twins and upper levels, have thought the Twins are in a terrible situation behind the plate. Maybe there is more in the pipeline than I was aware of. Will second the above comments about Mercedes and how well he is doing. Looking at yesterday's box score from the DSL Twins got me wondering, however, is pitching in the DSL exceptionally bad this year? If memory serves, there were usually very few hitters on the DSL Twins with averages above .300. Looking at the box score, seems that nearly all of them are above .300. Seth, have you noticed how much better the Twins kids are hitting? Are hitters throughout the league hitting much better? Or is it just that the Twins have a special group this year?
  22. Loved his last comment, thanking his family for being there for him throughout his journey. Every year there are a few pitchers drafted well after the first couple rounds who make a name for themselves. You know, guys we normally see dominating hitters in Cleveland or Tampa or Miami. Can Kyle Jones become that pitcher for the Twins four or five years from now?
  23. Certainly hope the Twins don't trade away the farm for a chance at success this October. The needs are just too great. I do hope they do at least one smart trade for a younger, proven reliever with at least two years of control. Someone that can be a solid late inning guy this year and the next couple when they should have a better chance to contend. That combined with some good health to starters and a couple relievers returning from the IL and who knows what happens. As for catcher, would support a similar move for a quality younger player who would be a 2023 and beyond backup who could battle for a starting job.
  24. Really like how you think, D.C.
  25. Interesting article in today's STrib. Talked about three possible plans by the FO going into the deadline. One, fine tuning which basically means adding a reliever, or two. Second, all in which would also add a top level starting pitcher, plus a couple relievers. Third option would be to sell, including trading Correa should he confirm he is opting out. Personally, think the article is right on and the first option will be what the Twins choose. They probably aren't a strong contender for winning anything come year-end, thus, spending a lot of capital to go all in doesn't make sense. Better to fine tune and add for next year and beyond, when they could be very good. Trading Correa probably isn't a good decision as it would be a terrible signal to the team and fans/ticket sales over the next two months.
