  1. "Goodbye" Jordan Shafer?
  2. The Vargas bat appears to be stirring from its slumbers, hasn't embarrassed himself in the field yet, and most importantly.... what he accomplished in the White Sox series was easily the most entertaining Twins baserunner in a single series in a long, long time.
  3. Or alternatively, one could believe in a 100% healthy arm and a new forkball out pitch.
  4. Based on how Buxton, Plouffe and now, for today anyway, Dozier, have responded to TD "concern" threads, I'm wondering if we could start a weekly series for the guys mired in the worst slumps, it sure seems to trigger a nice reaction.
  5. There was a major league player by the name of Matt Batts from the 40s and 50s, no indication that they were related.
  6. With a power hitters K%- 25%.... And career OPS+ of 57.... 9 year minor league career OPS of .681 translates pretty closely to his big league OPS of .565. Folks, there are good reasons that PFlo has spent most of his 10 years as a professional player in the minor leagues.
  7. Somewhere back in time we have a video posted on TD of Buxton going from home to third in, from what I can tell, has to be the fastest time ever recorded (except maybe Bo Jackson), IIRC, just under 10 seconds, has to be seen to be believed (how do you run a 90 yard dash, with two left turns, in that time?): https://youtu.be/IQEAk0wSFKU
  8. Rosario got pushed by the Twins to AAA, after he only spent half a season in AA and hadn't mastered it yet. Watch to see if he gets it going as the weather warms up. Hicks hasn't played poorly, going into last night's game, he's ranked 7th in the IL among all OFers in wRC+ and 8th in OPS. Buxton is definitely making some noise in Chattanooga that he might soon be ready....
  9. Great reports, TNT. You're absolutely right about Buxton, he will change the Twins OF defensive expectations, practically overnight, and I would expect him to be considered among the elite defensive CF within a few months of his major league debut. After reading your accounts, I'm even more looking forward to seeing the Lookouts in action next weekend.
  10. Zach Granite is "moving on up" He starts for the Miracle now.
  11. Not that clear to me.
  12. Buxton OPS is now .853
  13. Geez... Buxton 3-5 today. 2 triples/1 double OPS is now .853........!
  14. Oops, I guess he didn't say it: I am mostly in agreement with this- and the Twins need at least a half-year leash to see if Santana can make improvements in terms of better consistency with the routine plays. And with his potential with the bat, a Starlin Castro-like hit-first/sometimes-WTH?-on-defense SS might play a lot better with Buxton in CF and Rosario in LF. Largely through the Twins bungling of the CF situation and mis-assessment of Florimon's value as a major league SS, Santana was thrust into playing out of position, costing development time for him and putting off valuable evaluation time for the Twins in discerning if Santana can be the answer at SS. I'm not certain if anything is gained at this time by throwing Escobar back at SS- in a throw-away season (short of show-casing him for a prospective deal).
  15. Just say it, if you mean it. Are you calling for Escobar to take over at short? (Esco had his own flub in LF tonight). If so, are you calling for Santana to be sent down, or sent out to CF? His bat has been gradually coming to life after his 0-12 start to the season- .924 OPS in his last 5 games before tonight. What I'm saying, is that there are going to be tradeoffs during this apprenticeship/trial period, and the Twins have to find out if Santana is a long/intermediate-term answer at SS.
  16. Great read, Mat. I have some questions if you have the time. Out of curiosity, what's in your own pitch repertoire (4-seam/2-seam FB, off-speed stuff)? What goals have you and pitching coach Henry Bonilla set for 2015 @ CR, in terms of each of your pitches, ball/strike ratios, innings pitched, other peripherals, etc.? What is/are the basic difference(s) between college and professional ball? What is/are the basic difference(s) between the two Rookie Leagues and A ball?
  17. More info? Don't need any more info, the standard "excuse" is no doubt soon forthcoming. As for now, we now know why he had his "strong spring showing." Time to move on from yet another 8-year minor league vet and keep moving up some of the well-performing arms at 2 levels in A ball.
  18. 19 year old Alexis Tapia debuts for Ft Myers in the 9th inning. 1 IP 1 H 1 K 0 ER
  19. Post marked and tagged on April 28 for a revisit on May 28.... (What's your track record for reverse jinxes, Halsey? )
  20. Yeah, but how many bad contracts, besides sending Nolasco back, would it take to get Van Slyke?
  21. Yeah, I'd say if you're sitting for three straight games in favor of the likes of "Nunie", you're sitting on some pretty thin ice. I'm thinking Vargas gets this time off to "clear his head", get right with Bruno in the cage, and then get one more extended chance to get it going. But at this point, he looks like he's on short-time in Minnesota- I'm thinking the Red Wings management already has a Little Papi marketing plan in the works.
  22. I get the feeling that we're soon near a "Luke, we hardly knew ye" moment. Three SPs on Cedar Rapids are absolutely killing it, it seems only a matter of time until at least one of them is moved up. Wouldn't Westphal be in a better position to succeed as a LHRP instead of as a 6th SP?
  23. Yeah. I think everyone is pretty much onboard with that. A day-night DH in Washington made the most sense. Playing the game tomorrow at Camden, with or without fans, are both very bad decisions.
  24. I don't think it's the police state-building and fear-mongering, as much as the off-the-charts potential for liability. A Commissioner with cajones has to force the Nats to open up National Park, and force the Orioles to play the game there. Nothing good comes from playing the game in the modern-day baseball shrine that is Camden Yards.
