  1. Twins will not make Morneau a qualifying offer, therefore they will get nothing for him if the keep him, That is why he will be traded. MLBtraderumors reported that they expect Toronto to make Josh Johnson a QO, therefore he would cost Minnesota a second round pick. I do not expect the Twins to make an offer to Johnson greater that the 13.8 million he will get for taking the QO. Might be worth it, but also might be more risk than TR will accept. Would hope TR would take the gamble if he looks sound the rest of the year. Money should not be an issue next year to get a #1 or #2 starter.
  2. Might want to sign Pelfrey for the next couple of years if he keeps improving. Otherwise, might as well flip him and get something (hopefully a C+ prospect) in return. Do not expect a big return on any Twins pitchers with the exception of Perkins.
  3. Three players Twins brought up are placeholders. Twins needed to play trade canidates as often as possible the next 2 weeks, so with the three sent down needing at bats this was a move for a 2-3 week period. Arcia will be back, so probably is Escobar, Parmelee is running out of time to make an impression, maybe he will produce if Morneau is traded, but my take would be still, can he produce under pressure as their will be little pressure the last two months of this year.
  4. You cannot have too many good prospects. They can always be turned into talent for other positions.
  5. Why don't most of the people wait to judge until after the trading deadline. The players were sent down to get their work in and wait for trades to open up playing time. The players brought up were career major league type bench players. This is so playing time does not have to be created for front line prospects until some of the veterans are trading and not blocking playing time. Also hopefully increasing their value.
  6. What about Ethier? Dodgers have one too many starting outfielders and we could flip him in a year or two. Outside of that Lee would not be in a Perkins trade Rest of Dodger minor leagues are probably will not be good enough. Other two will not be enough for Perkins.
  7. Doesn't Boston have a SS in waiting at AAA? Do not want to see Perkins go, but desperate time could make for a good deal for the Twins. Outside out that what about the Arizona guy that they got from Cinn. Send Florimon or Escobar with Perkins and get back another A type pitcher with an upside. Doubt Arizona will do that, but the Dodgers are coming. One other note maybe Ethier for Perkins. At least a thought.
  8. I think the time will come to spend extra money to fix the holes. That probably will not be until 2015 or 2016. You need to know what the next wave will bring and what holes you need to fill. Right now I am guessing SS and pitching will be the main holes. SS may not be if Dozier can play there and Rosario takes over 2B with Florimon as the Utility player. Playing for SP seems to only work if you pay the top end guys and even that is dangerous, but CC, Greinke, Verlander, and a few others are turning out to be worth it. Second line starters are generally paid too much and are loss leaders.
  9. This move was needed. Arcia will be back. Parmelee not so sure. Maybe he can be added in a trade to bring back a better prospect. Hope this means Pinto is being promoted, also possibly Matt Koch. Both deserve it.
  10. No, have many starters in AAA about as good as him. I too would rather see Albers.
  11. Does not seem to be much of a fit. Maybe one of the A pitchers, but they may not even give that for Casey Fien.
  12. Twins will almost have to put him on the 40 man then. They would certainly lose him in the rule 5 and some bad club could stash him for a year. (Houston) would certainly take the flyer.
  13. This is a rebuild year, they were just hoping to be around .500. That will not happen, but Twins need to keep stocking the farm system. It will come around in time. Major league level needs to be used for finding out who will help for more than the next 2 years. After that we had better be competitive.
  14. I feel they should ship any veteran that they can get a decent return for. This includes Perkins. Arcia may need to return to Rochester for a breather, but Parmelee needs to step up or Twins should consider what to do for a 1st baseman for the next few years.
  15. Maybe we send him back to Rochester to get his head on straight. This season is all about getting a number of players experience, might as well continue.
  16. Timing is everything. All of us do not know what Perkins will bring, but you will never know if you keep saying he is not available. Somewhere is a GM who will need a closer around July 31. All we need to do is pick up the phone a listen and never say no before the offer is made. Best chance is that no offer will be enough, but you never know.
  17. I agree that 6-8 million a year would work. If he wants more trade him or let him walk. Parmelee is not the answer, 2 years of Morneau would really help.
  18. I expect one GM will make an offer that would be a mistake for the Twins to turn down if they listen. They just have to listen. There are several clubs looking for relief at the back end(Boston, Arizona, LAD, Baltimore, Texas, Detroit(if you want to trade Perkins in the division). Twins should find a buyer. MLBtraderumors has stated at least once that if the Twins made Perkins available there would be a bidding war for his services. Let it begin. St. Louis over the last 3 years have used several different closers and efficientcy has not been greatly affected, why should the Twins when it will not matter for probably 2 years.
  19. Over the last 40 years there have been about 10 dominant closers who did not burn out in one way or another. Rivera was one. Twins have many holes to fill, they should look for close to major league ready piece that becomes available. How would you like to be the GM knowing you have a bullpen issue, do nothing because you do not like the price, and your bullpen explodes in September and your team misses the playoffs, look no futher than Boston a few years ago. GM's feel a lot of pressure, they will make a bad deal to win now, Twins should cash in. Twins should also pass, if the deal does not feature either a close to major league ready starting pitcher or SS. Arizona has both.
  20. Perkins would bring the highest return. Depends on if a trade partner will bite the bullet and make an offer TR cannot refuse. 2015 is the best bet for a Twins resurgence and Perkins would be in his last year. MLBtraderumors says on reliefers take the money and run. I sort of agree.
  21. It was noted in another post that Arizona needs relief pitching. Maybe Skaggs could be an answer to help the Twins. Perkins is not being used here that much and the Twins have many relief pitchers coming.
  22. If Arizona is willing to give up Skaggs, go for it.
  23. You never know, but none of these 4 will bring back much value except salary relief. Pelfrey has a chance to be good the next 2 weeks and actually bring back some value. He could be of use here next year. Correria do not think will be traded, little value and decent contract.
  24. Agreed, I would trade Correia for the right prospect. Twins need all the pitching prospects they can get. They also have plenty of AAA options, who might be cheaper and slightly worse than Correia.
  25. I am hoping for Rosario to be ready, maybe Dozier can return to SS. Twins are not scoring enough now as it is. We need hitting and players that can produce and not strikeout with men on base. Too many easy outs in the Twins lineup. This needs to be fixed. Article is very good. Rosario needs to be the 2nd baseman of the future and hopefully the future starts next April, if not then by the end of 2014.
