  1. I hope they end up having Dozier or Willingham (who can hit bombs with the best of em) on the derby team. It would be amazing to have Morneau back as well for the NL, it would be great for him, great for the crowd and great for the Derby itself. (I saw him win it back at Yankee Stadium, so it would be cool to see him hit some out of the park again)
  2. I don't get the Burton hate, he was damn good in 2012 and in 2013 his numbers we just fine and provided plenty of value (71 Appearances, 8.3 k/9, and the same WAR he did in 2012) Since May or so his numbers have started to normalize quite a bit, the strike outs are back up, the walks are back down and for the most part he has pitched pretty decent overall. Over the past couple weeks he has looked more and more like the 2012 version as well. While he certainly won't be mistaken for an all-star, I think he has proven himself to be a solid/capable and overall reliable bullpen arm you can toss out 4 times a week if you need. I think perhaps some of the "hate" towards him is he is not your ideal shut down 8th inning type guy, which he probably is not, however he is certainly an asset in the pen and is able to handle the 8th inning role just fine currently. The bullpen is far from perfect, but Burton is pretty low on the list of what is ultimately "wrong" with it.
  3. Batting average is the most over rated stat.... Awesome
  4. How awesome must if feel when he gets that first MLB paycheck that is basically paying him $2,000 every day he is on the roster, especially after being in the minors for a decade, that's just cool to think about. Id love to see him stick as a starter for a couple more games at least, then stick in the pen for the rest of the year and next (while being a guy who can fill in for a start if needed)
  5. As of now the Twins are truly a .500 team. Nolasco/Mauer coming up big the rest of the way is what could put them into an above .500 team. May/Meyer coming on like gangbusters wouldn't hurt as well!
  6. .278 which is pretty average. Good news is his 66% strand rate should improve as well
  7. The past few weeks have shown that this team has a legit starting pitching staff, assuming they stay healthy them alone will ensure that the Twins don't lose 90+ games.
  8. It's nine o'clock on a Thursday The regular crowd shuffles in There's an old man sitting next to me Making love to his tonic and gin He says, "Son can you pitch me a memory I'm not really sure how it goes But it's sad and it's sweet And I knew it complete When I wore a younger man's clothes" Pitch us a gem you're the Pino man Pitch us a gem tonight Well we're all in the mood for a win tonight. And you've got us feeling alright
  9. Santana is really hard to project IMHO and that is a fun thing. He is still pretty young and has shown he can put up a decent average in the minors so I think he can certainly be able to hit for .280 or so, the key will be if this "power/pop" is legit or just a SSS mirage. He didn't show a ton of pop in the minors, but of course he is only 23 so there is plenty of time for that to develop/continue to improve. If the doubles power stays around and he is able to hit 6-8 HR a year, along with 20-25 SB potential, he could be a pretty nice mainstay at SS until one of the future studs is ready. If the power disappears you are probably looking at a guy whose skill set mirrors Nick Punto a bit just with a higher average more speed and more pop, which actually has a ton of value in itself. Ceiling: Solid SS for this org, not all star material likely, but could end up being at least league average which is a huge ++++++ Floor: A rich mans Nick Punto. Nice guy to have in the org for sure!
  10. Surprisingly? Yes Shocking? No He has been striking out a guy an inning all year, yes, yes, AAA is significantly easier then the majors, but strike outs are strike outs. Just saw his highlights, I was surprised how many of the strike outs were on swinging strikes, pretty sure he had more swinging strikes then Nick Blackburn did in his entire career.
  11. Hughes, Gibson and Correia (!!!!) have all been pitching pretty darn well lately, in Hughes and Gibsons cases they quickly look to be legit top of the rotation type studs for the near future. We all know the struggles Nolasco has had this year, yes he has been unlucky no doubt, but his FIP and xFIP still sit at 4.50 and 4.05 respectufully. Time for Nolasco to step up and start pitching like a mid rotation guy we expected. If he can step up and pitch like a number three, dare I say I really like our rotation moving forward? Hughes is a #1 for this team, Gibson is a pitching close to a #1 level as well. Nolasco at #3 and whoever the hot hand is between Pino/May/Meyer #4 with Correia actually keeping us in games as a possible average #5 Me likes our chances moving forward.
  12. We needs us a good nickname for Yohan, any suggestions?
  13. Didn't see much of the game at all, glad to see Pino succeed! How did he look on the mound? Hard to argue with 7 k and 5 H in 7 IP, 1.51 FIP I think he has definitely earned more starts, ride the hot arm until the league catches up to him. May will get his shot soon enough due to ineffectiveness, injury etc If pino does falter a bit, I like his chances of sticking in the pen. Either way, good for him, nice to see a long time minor leaguer get his shot and take full advantage of it, that's gotta be an amazing feeling.
  14. Agreed. The first year as a savior/player. 2nd year as a savior/bench coach 3rd year as the manager (after Gardy leaves after going out on top with back to back world series titles)
  15. This thread is for the discussion of Mark DeRosa as the Twins one true savior and Mark DeRosa (and his actions) alone. There are plenty of threads where you can discuss getting rid of Burton and Florimon. Thank you.
  16. Right now the Twins have a serious hole with Plouffe being out. Escobar was doing fine at SS, and Santana was doing great in his role. IMHO The Twins need to go out and sign Mark DeRosa to fill in for the next 25 games or so while Plouffe is out. Once Plouffe comes back then DeRosa provides insurance at CF and SS in case Santana/Escobar start to fall off a bit.
  17. I think one way or another if the Twins are still in it come the trade deadline, then Pinto is going to be back up regardless as the back up C. (unless he totally starts flaming out in AAA) As far as CF: Jon Jay is on the block apparently but the asking price is very high, best bet is to hope Hicks can come back and be adequate.
  18. Koskie and Morneau are both Canadian and therefore hockey players. Seriously though, Morneau most likely had a ton growing up as a goalie. Mauer has played catcher forever and also was a QB in high school, who knows how many he had that went "undiagnosed" etc. The Twins seem to have more then usual for sure...seems like rotten luck more than anything.
  19. They are the world champs, and have plenty of nice bats in the lineup: Ortiz, Napoli, Holt, Boegarts, Pedroia, A.J., Victorino (injured) Not the 27 Yankees, but a solid lineup, no doubt.
  20. He signed that massive contract like 4 years ago at this point, and actually had out performed his career averages in 2012 and 2013, it is abundantly clear to me he just got complacent after he got paid....
  21. Failed miserably? That is a little much, it was extremely frustrating no doubt, but let's not act like the Twins got blown out every game. They went against 3 very good pitchers who shut them down, it happens (it sucks no doubt, but it happens). Heck if Perkins wasn't "sick" yesterday and Doizer gets a base hit in the 8th on Monday, then the Twins win that series, but that is baseball.
  22. I am clearly not the only one to think this, as I mentioned there were threads on here at the time, I really don't have the time (shocking I know) or desire to try to search through thread after thread and MLBtrade rumor achives to try to prove that this was said, I know it was said, DiehardTwinsfan knows it was said, if you want to say it never was said/written then that is your prerogative. At the end of the day Willingham as long as he stays healthy, still has some trade value, additionally if things break right he could be a very big reason why the Twins can potentially give us meaningful games to watch in August and hopefully Sept/Oct.
  23. Yeah I thought about it, I see them as the next level of "almost untouchable" along with Rosario etc. However if the Twins are "in it" then perhaps they become potential trade chips to help push the team over the top (moreso Vargas, Pinto and Rosario then May, since the Twins need need need need need need need good young pitching)
  24. I would be careful about speaking in such absolutes, in reality none of us have any ideas on what exactly the Twins were asking for or how far talks got. There was very little reported at the time (which is pretty typical when it comes to the Twins as they like to keep things close)
