IMO The Twins would be contending for the division title if they still had Hicks, who FYi is looking better and better again, it sometimes takes a week or two to adjust after a long DL stint. Also, man how good of a trade chip would he have been now for the Twins? They could get a solid young SP instead of JR Murphy. This trade is worse than Capps for Ramos by far. At least Capps provided a little value for a bit.

They could have set up the rotation in AAA differently very easily, there is no reason why Gonsalves couldn't have been set up to pitch in the double header. Duffey could have started and given you 4-5 innings on a pitch count, Melville only gave them 3.1 innings after all! Gibson could have pitched in the DH and they could have had Siegers up for yesterdays game etc

I wish Melville nothing but the best but he should by no means be strating meaningful games for a team with a legit chance at the playoffs. It's not Melville's fault at all, it's the front offices fault IMO. If the Twins were 7 games up or 5 games down in the playoff hunt? No issue whatsoever, but tied or a half game up with 5 teams within 2-3 games of you? Not the time to be giving feel good stories starts IMO Professional sports is about winning.

Gee was fine since he was already on the roster. Melville? Dumb. They knew this double header was coming days in advance, they easily could have adjusted the AAA rotation to get literally anyone else up besides the 27 year old guy who was CUT from the independent league earlier this year.

There frankly is no reason why Melville should have taken the hill, his stinker of a game cost this team an otherwise cake wake of a winnable game. Conservative nonsense. Also why not stretch out Duffey for the rotation?

Or if you sell, at least don't sell just to acquire a bunch of AAAA upside type guys. This is what happens when ownership goes "cheap" on the GM search. These guys have done zero to help out this team for 2017 or the future. Unreal.

Souhan is a clown, the fact that he and others of his ilk still have jobs are a big reason why newspapers are on their way out. Strib won't be around in ten years, book it. Hopefully Russo and Randball land on their feet.

Shame on the Twins front office for calling up Melville and starting Gee in this double header. This would have been the perfect time to reward pitchers with an actual future for this club with starts.

Haven't been about catch the games since I'm like 7 hours ahead here. But wow, Bux is doing great lately. Suddenly this OF and team looks pretty damn set offensively (and defensively)

2019 depends on what 2018 looks like. But the Twins would be foolish not to try to keep him around, he is still a .370 OBP guy who should have 3.0-3.4 WAR this year. Plenty of value IMO, esp considering Vargas is nothing special at all thus far, and no other real DH in the system. Sano should be at 3B for next couple years as well. I'd guess, if he replicates 2017 next year , that he signs a 2 year contract (I can't see him wanting to go year to year) for about 5-6 mil a year. Worth it IMO

It's a shame the Pohlads, Ryan and co never actually tried to win a title during Mauer's tenure here. The guy is easily one of the 5 best players in Franchise History and helped lead the team to several playoff berths. He is a future hall of famer, him not success in the playoffs is a true waste of amazing talent. I few Dozier is a somewhat similar but not nearly as tragic way. -
