    I think Perkins is back on a one year deal or a ST invite, based on how the next couple months go for him. Perkins is awesome, and if he is able to pitch halfway decent this year, bring him back on a one year, 2 mil deal with 3 mil more base on games finished. If he struggles, ST invite. He's a great clubhouse guy, and it's not like this team is busting at the seams with bullpen depth anyways. Santiago is gone. Hughes: man, id love him to come back strong, I just have no faith in it, tough injury. Maybe he becomes a decent bullpen arm. May; should be penciled into Gibson's rotation spot.

    Yeah, not ideal when people lose jobs. But that is the way of the world (and sports industry) On the flip slide, most of these guys held jobs longer and had more job security then most of their peers in other orgs I'm confident nearly all will land on their feet in some capacity.

    Yeah Joe Mauer is a good name, but it's not like he was a diamond in the rough. Nationally everyone had Mauer as one of the top 3 players that year he was drafted. Dude was also a 3 sport stud.... I'm not trying to disparage the scout...but yeah, hard to give a lot of credit there.

    A lot Not in August Most certainly so Twins have for all intents and purposes "fallen out of it" also lets these guys get new jobs sooner.

    One interesting thing as well: I didn't realize that they couldn't hire ANYONE from Cleveland until after this season. Makes the "lame duck" situation make a lot more sense....still frustrating though as it's sort of a wasted year in some aspects, no? In general I think the non compete thing is crappy. Lateral moves I sorta get, but if Falvey was gonna give these guys promotions etc from their old jobs in Cleveland? I don't see the problem.

    I don't get the angst re: the Colon comments. It's not like he is taking away starts from anyone who deserves it (realistically) I'd still have Duffey start some games, but that ship has probably sailed. Unless Gibson turns it around he should be probably be non tendered this off-season Colon at least builds a little value with games like tonight as: 1. August waivers trade type. 2. A guy who could come back next year on a 1 year 2 mil deal as a 5th/6th guy. His performance the past couple games aren;t anything sexy, but they got the job done IMO. Just his ability to go 9 innings in a win has value.

    Reading between the lines, I'd peg the odds of Molitor returning in 2018 as manager at around 5%

    The national TV contracts goto MLB (and thus get split up amongst the teams) The teams do get some additional money individually for these games, but it's not a massive amount, and a chunk of it goes to player playoff shares etc Basically none of it really helps the EBITA.

    If Santana were a free agent after this year he would likely get a 3 year-35-40 million dollar contract, the fact that he can be had for 1.25 years for $16ish million makes him not only a good value/target for teams in the playoff hunt but most teams in the MLB in general

    Yeah, the "world series or bust" mantra was never a part of Twins ownership or Twins brass (beyond GM chair at least) I was chatting with a long time suite owner for the Twins and he gets facetime with DSP every year, he mentioned to me that DSP has said on more than one occasion that the goal isn't to win the world series or even go far in the playoffs. In fact he said that in one conversation that the further along the Twins would go in the playoffs, the less profitability becomes. I think a lot of this is because the majority of revenues come in from the TV contracts, corporate season tickets/suites. Basically as teams go further in the playoffs: TV contracts stay the same, but costs go up (yeah they make it back in ticket sales, beer sales etc) but the profit margin is significantly smaller. None of this is surprising, or really even upsetting, it's just the reality of how the Pohlads run this team (to be clear a lot of owners and teams view it like this as well)

    Seems to have worked out ok for the Cubs and astros..... everyday that goes by, dozierand Santana lose more and more value...

    Were they actually "buying"? They completely failed all season long to fix the bullpen at any point. That is the most frustrating thing to me, so many guys were left on the roster for far far far too long in that pen.

    Santana's complete game today IMO shows that he would most certainly be "blocked" There are like a million teams in the wild card hunt, he would make a ton of sense for the Mariners for example, but would likely get claimed from a few teams before them.

    Also talked to my source: More or less: Yankees knew they had a lot of options for solid pitching. Twins thought they were getting slightly lowballed for Santana. Teams agreed to a "on paper" fair deal for Garcia. Yankees went out and got Gray, high risk, high reward.

    The odds that Santana passes through waivers to someone that would work out a trade with the Twins is next to zero. 1st off: There are very few teams that would be "upset" to get "stuck" with Santana on his current contract. 2nd off: with the way the playoffs are set up now: literally every team other than a few are still effectively "in it" in the playoff hunt. Plenty of teams would put in a claim just to block other teams from claiming him, and then offer next to nothing. They know if that's the case the Twins will gladly pull him back (since they can easily trade him in the off season) worst case scenario (which never would happen) is they have a solid #3 type for the next 1.3 years on a pretty solid deal.

    Man, I really really want to give Falvey and Levine the benefit of the doubt, but man, this deadline was a disaster. I am sick and tired of year in and year out of the Twins never fully committing to selling, buying or rebuilding. If the plan was to actually SELL, then Santana, Dozier, Kintzler, Garcia, Castro and more all should have been unloaded. If the plan wasn't to sell, then there was no reason to trade Garcia and Kintzler for a guy who may be a #4/#5 if all things break right, and a bullpen arm potentially. (Meanwhile we already did give up Yonan for Garcia to begin with) As a Twins fan this is especially frustrating, and if I were Dozier, I would be straight up pissed. Yes, the Twins prob weren't going to make the playoffs this year, but they were only a few games out, trading Kintzler (for scraps) now assures them that their pen has nobody that can close out games, and they are more or less doomed to finish in 4th or 5th in the division now. Meanwhile, they didn't do anything to make the 2018,2019,2020 teams better in any significant way. Half measures was the Terry Ryan way, and unfortunately it appears to be the same thus far into this "new" regime.

    I'd honestly just fire Molitor now, it doesn't do anyone any good to have a lame duck manager. Gives him time to start the job hunt early, and allows the Twins a chance to try someone else out internally (Jake Mauer?)

    I'd personally target the Astros, and I think we would get the most from them from an asset like Santana. Problem with the Yankees is that even though Santana is affordable, they don't really mind or care. Houston? That is more important to them.

    They absolutely are going to be looking at prospects. Finding pitchers that help now and for 3+ years are very expensive to find! I have a pretty strong feeling that Falvey and Co are viewing 2019-2022 as their first real window.

    I think if they could get Adams, and then one or two of the other prospects I listed in the OP, I'd go for it.

    If you are expecting elite prospects in return for a #3 type like Santana, you are going to end up very disappointed.

    I'm not sure how you can compare Quintana to Santana, they are nowhere near the same pitcher for nearly every reason. -He is younger -He is better -He is signed through 2020 The Yankees would be insane to give up Frazier for a guy like Santana.
