  1. Good hockey and good basketball on tonight...we all know how this twins game ends.
  2. That reusse article implied a lot of things besides the "out of shape" thing.
  3. I like Provus and Gladden quite a bit personally. It's not easy to fill the shoes of all time greats like Carnel and to a lesser extent Gordon. Both Dazzle and Cory do well IMO.
  4. I wasn't trying to be snarky or anything FYI. At least if it was a trade you can excuse them kind of for trying to "improve" the team, but when they non tendered Ortiz he already had 30+ HR full season power. Man how awesome would this team have been with Mauer, Morneau and Ortiz in the middle of the lineup?!? One player doesn't win a championship, but I have to think the Twins at least make a world series if Ortiz stayed with them for 5-7 more years.
  5. I don't trust Ryan to be making the decisions at this point on who to trade for what (and who not to trade) having a lame duck GM making decisions is never a good plan. If you are going to can TR at the end of the season (not saying the Pohlads are) but IF they are planning on it, what is the point in letting him make moves for a team he won't be a part of moving forward? As far as finding a high quality replacement mid season, money talks and the job talks. Frankly, ANY MLB GM job is a great gig for ANYONE who isn't a current GM, the Twins have a good setup, young talent and the ability to compete, they should be able to get whoever they want to be perfectly honest. If you are going to keep Ryan around til the end of the year, then I think you need to have all of the trades go through the Pohlads for instance, i.e. you don't want him doing something desperate to try to save his job (i.e. trading Buxton, Berrios, Sano, Kepler, for a short term gain in major league talent) Let TR shop Plouffe, Jepsen, Santana, Nolasco, Hughes, Gibson, Arcia and a couple others all he wants, but don't let him trade any of the future core at this point. Let the next GM (whether he comes in at the all star break, or after the season) determine what to do (or not do) with those players.
  6. If a player really does show up out of shape, it should be reported then and there, not 2 months into the season when the team needs a scape goat. Also Souhan even said that those reports were from 2015.
  7. FWIW Ortiz wasn't traded. He was simply non tendered, which makes the blunder that much worse.
  8. Silicon Valley is one of the funniest comedies I have ever seen, The Americans is top notch television as well. Preacher looks promising, and while I am not super into GoT it is at least entertaining. Definitely start watching Silicon Valley and the Americans though, both are instant classics.
  9. Yup, even in his "good years" Ryan made some big time blunders. Not the least of which was choosing Matt Lecroy over David Ortiz
  10. He was telling the truth, he is still a class act though.
  11. Lunhow has had his fingerprints on the team for a few years, Ryan has had his fingerprints all over the Twins for two decades now. During that time the Twins won one playoff series and are well below .500 overall during those 20 years as well. That is failure, plain and simple, people can try to spin it however they want, but 1 playoff series win in 20 years is failure for ANY professional sports team. These last 6 years.. even moreso.
  12. That's a little overboard. Every team would take Duffey in the rotation currently, every team would take Park to play DH or 1B, most teams would take Dozier to play 2nd. Abad would have plenty of suitors as a LOOGY
  13. I imagine that being on a 11-31 team doesn't help anyone's "attitude" or "morale"
  14. You are correct, he had every reason in the world to be upset about that.
  15. But Pinto was awful at catching...
  16. After more though I have changed my answer.... Hell no!
  17. The Twins have the worst record in baseball since Terry Ryan came back. They will have had 90+ losses in 5 of the last 6 years total. The "mid market" excuse doesn't even come close to applying here. It's absolute and total failure.
  18. Spoiler alerts!!!!
  19. Also, isn't Perkins like really into long distance running or something? That seems to clash with the idea that his conditioning was poor.... I mean the guy is running half marathons and stuff, it's not like he was sitting on his couch all off-season or something. Perkins has been a class act his whole time in Minnesota and has been a heckuva player for the Twins, it's really crappy that the org is making him out to be the scapegoat now. "Minnesota nice" indeed, "anonymous passive aggressive" comments from the front office about him. Bush league.
  20. Only 5 more years on that Pujols contract!
  21. "Hey Dave St Peter, this guy is being critical of the front office, as you know we only allow criticisms of the players around these here parts, can we pull his press pass please?"
  22. "The Twins are on pace now for their 5th 90+ loss season in 6 years, during which time the Twins have the worst overall record in baseball. At what point do you admit that the current approach isn't working, how do you fix it? The Twins haven't won a pennant in 25 seasons now, with a new stadium, 100+ mil in payroll and one playoff series win in the last 25 years don't you think it's time for a major overhaul of the way this organization thinks?" With this track record, why should fans trust you and the rest of the FO are the ones to turn this around and bring back a championship caliber product to Minnesota?
  23. Yeah, I like how they had discussions this off-season, a point in which Perkins trade value was at a low point considering he was injured the last half of 2015. Pitchers get hurt, it happens, it's part of the game, every team in baseball faces it. It's cheap and petty to criticize/blame Hughes and Perkins for getting hurt.
  24. "Playing hurt" Is one of the dumbest things in sports, how is Perkins or Hughes "playing hurt" going to help this team anyways? We saw how ineffective Perkins was once he got hurt last year (and into this year). Ditto with Hughes who is clearly not 100%, the smart thing to do would be to shut him down and see if he can get his velocity back. It's kind of low rent IMO that the front office is leaking this sort of stuff anyways, instead of blaming a couple veterans who are injured, maybe the local scribes can blame the GM who decided there was no need for a plan B or C in the bullpen and who decided to give a guy an extension off a career year.
