  1. Why? They have David Wright, and Duda will be back in 4 weeks.
  2. The problem with Nunez as a Util INF is that he is quite horrible defensively up the middle (and even at 3rd base) Basically he needs to continue to hit like he has to make it worth having him out there defensively. Polanco is a much better bet to work out long term IMO, so I think Nunez should be shopped very aggressively.
  3. Yes, this really is one of the worst teams ever (as the team is constructed now) Terrible rotation, terrible bullpen, terrible defense. The offense is under-performing, but at this stage, other than Park and Sano, can we really feel confident that anyone else on the 25 man roster will even be able to be an "average" hitter moving forward? Dozier and Mauer could, but they haven't inspired much confidence as of late. I guess Nunez is playing well, but again, are we confident that this lasts? However, there is hope. If Berrios, Kepler, Buxton and a handful of bullpen youngsters can come up and play well, that could take them out of the "one of the worst teams ever" conversation hopefully, and keep them from losing 110+ How sad is it that we are now viewing the fact if they can lose less than 110 a somewhat of a success?
  4. Gibson is my dark horse to be traded and actually bring back something of value. If Gibby can get back on the field and string together a few solid starts he should be the first guy the Twins shop aggressively. I would be shopping Ervin Santana aggressively as well. I would also be fielding offers on Park, who could bring back the absolute most in a trade as well, I would have to be blown away by an offer, but I think he could fetch a really nice return.
  5. I don't see it happening, the Royals have plenty of other guys they can give looks to, and there really is no room for Plouffe on the roster in 2017 anyways. The Yankees could be a decent fit, Headley is stinking up the joint for them currently.
  6. If he is a recovering addict any slip up is a very serious issue.
  7. It should be noted that The twins had a perfectly good SP named Francisco Liriano who could have been resigned much cheaper than Santana, Nolasco etc but they refused to let him throw his slider more or less. Of course he went to Pittsburgh and dominated. When it comes to pitcher evaluation either in the draft, minors, trades, or FA the twins have been pretty damn poor ever since the AJ trade and the Santana rule 5 pick.
  8. I'm pretty sure MLB has it as well, but it maybe doesn't extend to coaches? Either way it shouldn't matter, with uber around there is literally even less than zero excuse to ever drink and drive. Allen makes good money, he can surely afford the $30 max fare or what not.
  9. The one silver lining is that Rasmussen gets his chance and hopefully a new voice/guy can help turn things around for this pitching staff as a whole. Hopefully he can run with it. Also maybe the team can use this as a rallying point/something to play for moving fwd.
  10. The point is the Twins are currently the worst team in baseball and have been terrible 5 of the last 6 years, also the Angels, Yankees and Red Sox have like a combined 10+ World Series titles during the TR/Bill Smith era
  11. Alcoholic or not there really is no excuse to drink and drive. This is a young team and absolutely not the leadership they need. I think Allen deserves a second chance, just not here in Minnesota. If we are going to hold the players to high standards then the coaching staff needs to be held to them as well. I wish him the best of luck though.
  12. That is damning. We all like to poke fun at the Padres crazy GM, but his team is doing better than our beloved Twins.... Seattle is an interesting case, they never really did a rebuild, they simply try to put together a playoff team each year, and it looks like it's working for them now.
  13. Give me the Vikings last 25 years over the Twins last 25 years any day of the week. Tons of playoff games, multiple teams that were actually good enough to win super bowls.
  14. This, 100x this. We are now in the 6th year of the "rebuild" and things have actually gotten worse (we are going to lose 100+ most likely) Some people might toss out the Pittsburgh and KC examples, but those are the exceptions to the rule and those 20+ year droughts were HUGE failures during that time.
  15. Yeah it seems like a lot of the defense is: "Well, they needed pitchers and they tried!" As you mentioned the rotation has been a disaster the last 5 years overall. That is an indictment of not only the FA signings, but the clubs ability to develop SP in the minors and inability to make impact trades.
  16. You don't need better results, you need equal or close to equal results. Literally, any 1-2 year deal pitcher could have given us what Nolasco has! Ditto with Hughes the past two seasons as well. Signing aging mid to back end of the rotation pitchers to long term contracts is a mistake, especially 3 of them.
  17. Especially 30+ year old pitchers who never had "great" stuff or results to begin with. If you are going to go after a 30+ year old guy, go after a guy with a lot of success like a Cole Hamels, at least the regression in that case won't be as bad. (going from an ace to very good number 2 is better than a guy going from a #3 to out of the league...as Hughes and Nolasco basically have done)
  18. You act like the only way to get pitchers are to sign them to long term contracts, there were plenty of people wanting the Twins to give a guy like Kazmir a 1 or 2 year deal, every year there are plenty of guys you can snag for 1 or 2 years on the FA market. If you need "a guy to go out every 5th day" like you suggest, you have plenty of other options: (Trades, 1-2 year contracts) then just "well you have to sign guys long term, it is what it is" Also as many people mentioned, if you are going to sign someone long term, make sure its an ace or someone with high upside. Signing a bunch of mid to back of the rotation guys (Santana, Hughes, Nolasco) for a bunch of money is sort of a waste IMO. With the money spent on those three they could have very easily gotten an ace like Cueto and still had enough left for a mid rotation type guy.
  19. But only one team can be the "worst" at it, and the Twins clearly are that. Those weren't really that big of "chances" to begin with since Hughes, Santana and Nolasco were nothing special and mid rotation guys at best to begin with, every saw it.
  20. Garza had a pretty solid 8 years or so as well
  21. Yeah, I thought giving up Hu was way too much at the time. They could have gotten Jepsen for less IMO. Obviously this only confirms that fear.
  22. Absolutely it is.
  23. agreed, total system failure is the right word for sure.
  24. meh even if May only becomes a bullpen guy, I don't think it is or was a bad trade. Revere isn't that great.
